ELYSIUM ACADEMY BRIEFING
ZYPHERA PRIME — EDUCATIONAL & TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Classification: General / Training
Distribution: Academy Cadets / Trainees / Instructional Staff
Date: 11 August 2398
SITUATION
Elysium Academy personnel are currently present during one of the most significant scientific and diplomatic events of the Circinus mission.
The Erebus Initiative may represent the first viable path toward eventual return to the Milky Way.
It also presents a unique training opportunity.
ACADEMY PARTICIPATION
Cadets and trainees may be assigned supervised duties supporting departments involved in summit preparation.
Possible assignments include:
- data analysis,
- translation support,
- scientific observation,
- logistics,
- communications monitoring,
- medical support,
- visitor coordination,
- cultural research,
- flight planning,
- engineering documentation,
- security observation.
Assignments remain subject to department-head approval.
IMPORTANT
Cadets are not to independently represent Starfleet in diplomatic negotiations.
Cadets may not release restricted information.
Cadets may not access secure Erebus systems without authorisation.
Cadets are trainees.
This remains true even when circumstances aboard Elysium require them to perform beyond ordinary Academy expectations.
EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Zyphera Prime provides access to cultures and technologies previously unknown to Starfleet.
Recommended areas of study include:
- Rin'thar culture and spatial mathematics,
- Varn avian-descended physiology, cybernetics, corporate governance and economics,
- Ael'ven empathic science,
- Zypheran diplomatic structures,
- Circinus trade systems,
- comparative political systems,
- interspecies communication,
- neutral-station law,
- ethics of advanced transportation technology.
EREBUS CASE STUDY
The Erebus Initiative should be considered a live multidisciplinary case study.
Questions cadets may be asked to consider include:
- Should one government control technology capable of changing regional power?
- Does the Federation have the right to introduce such technology into Circinus?
- What responsibility does Elysium have for consequences after it leaves?
- When does scientific possibility become political responsibility?
- Should strategic technology be shared?
- Can a project involving hostile or competing governments remain neutral?
- Is getting home sufficient justification for taking these risks?
There may not be one correct answer.
That is part of the exercise.
SHORE ACCESS
Approved Academy personnel may visit public areas of Zyphera Prime under normal supervision and duty restrictions.
Cadets are reminded that:
- local law applies,
- diplomatic personnel may be present,
- intelligence activity is considered likely,
- apparently casual conversations may not be casual,
- Academy status does not grant diplomatic immunity.
PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATION
Observe.
Ask questions.
Learn.
Do not create an interstellar incident.
If you accidentally create one, notify your instructor before it reaches Command.
