Lovejoy sat behind the desk in the XO's Ready Room thinking. This whole missing shuttle didn't make any sense. Captain Lalor's people weren't involved in the abduction. He was sure of that and even if they were they would have only taken her. Was there something in the past history of the others to warrant their kidnapping? Then he remembered the Intelligence Chief Wynter mentioning something about Commander Taylor. He would start there.

"Lovejoy to Wynter, please come by the Executive Officers Ready Room. I have something I wish to discuss with you."

Wynter tapped his commbadge. "On my way Commander." he said, before he left his office. A few minutes later he entered the XO's ready room. "You wanted to see me Commander." he said standing at attention.

Lovejoy waved the coming to attention off. "No need for that Mr. Wynter, have a seat. Would you like something from the replicator?" He inquired as he sat straighter in the chair.

Wynter sat slowly. "No Commander, may I ask what was so urgent that you needed to see me post haste." he enquired.

Lovejoy steepled his fingers in front of him before replying. "Actually not all that post haste Lieutenant. I was thinking of something you mentioned earlier in the meeting with the Commodore. You mentioned something about perhaps something in the missing officer's past has played a part in their abduction. Specifically Commander Taylor's past." He waited to see if Wynter recalled the conversation and comment.

Wynter raised an eyebrow. "Yes Commander I said that, it is as likely and logical as any other conclusion that anyone has drawn. Given some of what I know it is also likely." he said "Yet by no means does it suggest anything than someone with the means and motive, so what are you playing at Commander?"

Garrett cocked his head to the side a confused look on his face. "Playing? I'm not sure what you mean Lieutenant. I'm trying to get four valuable Starfleet Officers back and if I can narrow the time to do it by finding something in one of their pasts all the better."

Wynter nodded slowly not believibg the man. "The warp signals are Romulan, well covered to look like other warp signature designs, but a bit of digging uncovers it, so they went for quantity over quality. The only member of the missing crew whom dealt with Romulans is Commander Taylor. The questions we are working on now are who.and why."

Garrett nodded. "Good, very good. Keep at it Lieutenant. If there is a connection I want it found. It may very well give us the who and the why.Then knowing that we can go and get our people back. Which is what we all want."

Wynter eyed the man carefully. "I hope so Commander for everyone's sake."

"It's what we all want Lieutenant." Lovejoy agreed quickly. "To have them back where they belong. Let me know immediately if you get any further information corroborating your initial discovery about Commander Taylor and any dealings he had with the Romulans."

Wynter stood pressing his fingers into the chair, as he stood allowing the chiton based listening device to adhere. "Of course Commander, if I discover anything I will let you know. Was there anything else?"


Garrett shook his head, "I don't believe so Mr. Wynter. Thank you for the additional information and do keep me in the loop. I'll let you return to your duties."
