Having checked in with Commander Taylor, Alicia decided to drop by the Captain’s ready room and introduce herself to her new Captain. It would be good to know what expectations the Captain might have. As she arrived at the ready room she straightened her uniform before pressing the chime.
"Come" came the call. Phoenix looked up as the door open. Her office was neat and tidy. The low couches off to the side covered with woven rugs and cushions were the only signs of her heritage.
As she walked inside, Alicia gazed around taking in her surroundings before smiling warmly at Lalor. “Lieutenant Alicia Kelea, I’m your new Chief Counsellor. I thought I’d drop by and introduce myself.”
"Ah yes. Welcome to the Elysium Counselor. Please have a seat." Phoenix waved her to one of the three chairs before her desk.
“Thank you” Alicia took a seat offering a polite smile as she did so. “I’ve already checked in with Commander Taylor, requested a meeting with the Counselling department members and arranged an appointment for my own psych evaluation.” She grinned. “I like to be organized.”
"Well that definitely is organized." Phoenix replied with a smile. "I am sure you will find that this ship is like a huge family. It is something we pride ourselves on."
Alicia smiled. “I like the sound of that. It’s one reason why I chose a ship assignment instead of a Starbase, to be part of a family again. You don’t get much more tight knit than the community you get aboard a ship.”
"Indeed." The captain agreed. "Please do not hesitate to tell me if you have any trouble getting people to come see you or your team. I expect all officers to undertake their reviews without issue."
“Of course” Alicia nodded. “I don’t like to have people dragged in kicking and screaming, at least not if I can help it!” She grinned. “I have my ways of dealing with it. Being Betazoid it gives me an edge that other Counsellors don’t have, although it can also be a downside. Powerful emotions can be overwhelming.”
Phoenix nodded. "So I have heard from others. This crew has had some rough times, certain officers will require gentle hands."
"Don't worry Captain, they'll get all the care, understanding and time they need." Alicia smiled warmly. "Is there anyone in particular you think needs to talk to a Counsellor? There are, obviously already Counsellor's here I'm wondering about those crew who tend to avoid Counsellor's."
"I would suggest you speak with Lieutenant Sullivan around which of the senior staff she looks after, some of them have ongoing cases. I am not sure who avoids counseling as none of your predecessors have ever complained." Phoenix paused. "Might be an idea though to review the records, some have not had counseling reviews for a while." Phoenix paused again. "A few months ago, myself and several of the command crew were involved in something that left some pretty heavy issues, Commanders Taylor, Holmes and Qwyyn would be an idea to look into."
Alicia nodded. "Very well Captain, I'll do that and I'll speak to the rest of the counseling staff to see if there's anyone they've had problems getting to see." She offered a smile.
Phoenix smiled back. "You should settle in first, get your bearings. I do hope you enjoy your time on the Elysium Counselor." She held out a hand.
Alicia smiled as she took Phoenix's hand. "Thank you Captain, I'm sure I will."
Phoenix shook Alicia's hand. "Dismissed Lieutenant."
