Telling Miran

Ken Waters bounced on his toes, waiting for someone to answer the door to the Captain's quarters.

This was going to be a tough one, and he was not looking forward to it. He could still remember when he had thought that asking Phoenix to marry him was going to be impossible. Now, he knew that had actually been the easy part. The real challenge was in dealing with the reaction from everyone else. Particularly, Phoenix's sister Miran.

The door opened and Phoenix waved him in with a smile. "Come in. She is in the lounge area."

Ken leaned in to kiss his fiance's cheek, taking the moment to speak quietly into her ear. "If she tries to, like, kill me or something. You'll stop her. Right?"

"Yes I will" She smiled up at him.

Miran was sprawled on the couch reading a book. She looked up as they entered the room. "Hey." she commented and went back to her book.

Ken held up a hesitant palm. "Hey, Miran. Um. Are you busy? Can we talk?"

The teenager sat up warily and eyed them both. "IF you two are breaking up again I swear..." she began

Phoenix held up a hand. "Stop Miri and listen."

The Teenager sighed. "Ok."

"Miran," Ken began, uncertain of himself, of how she would react. In truth, he half wondered if Phoenix really would have to jump out and grab her before she attacked him. "I know you've been patient with your sister and me as we try to figure out exactly where we stand with each other. And I know it hasn't been easy. But I think we can safely say that we want to be together. That we're at our absolute happiest when we're together. So, we've decided to take another step in our relationship..."

"Oh?" The teen rolled her eyes. "Moving in permanently are you?"

"Miran!" Phoenix said with exasperation. "Calm down."

He sucked in a breath, his chest rising. This was it. Just say it. Like pulling off a med-patch. "We're getting married."

Miran studied them both, then nodded "Ok." she said and turned back to her book. "Congratulations, about time, you get to tell Father Pene." she was on the inside jumping with glee and was waiting for the two to leave so she could go tell people.

Ken was stunned. He had been prepared for many reactions to this news -- some of them absolutely unreasonable, but all of them involving some degree of yelling. Nothing had prepared him for this. She was okay with it. Perfectly accepting of it, even. He looked to Phoenix, a questioning brow raised.

Phoenix studied her sister and tilted her head carefully to the side. "And that is your reaction?" she asked her.

"Its about time" the teen repeated as she flipped a page. "And its not like I have not seen what married life does to you both, you know in that pocket universe? My temporal double had some very nice stories." She mused. "When you tell Liselle, let me know okay? She and I will have plans to make."

Phoenix was not sure she liked the sound of that.

Ken went to Phoenix, gently pulling her to one side as Miran continued to read quietly. "Should we be scared? I'm feeling a little scared."

"Uh... I have a feeling we will need to elope" Phoenix said backing away from her sister.

"Nope No Elopement!" Came the call from the couch. "Not allowed!"
