Having settled into Tallia's quarters Heather was feeling pretty guilty about surprising her with Fernando being there overnight, deciding to make it up to her she made a point of adding a few homely touches to the living area. A couple of hanging pictures she thought Tallia would like, some coloured cushions and a throw for the sofa and chair and a large soft furry rug for the floor infront of the sofa. She didn't want to go overboard incase Tallia didn't like it.That done she waited for Tallia to get home.

Tallia walked into her quarters and almost didn't recognize the place, "Holy crap, this place looks like someone lives here finally." She gasped, kicking off her boots and placing her bare feet on the rug, "Oh, yeah, that's the good stuff..." She turned to Heather, her roommate/patient, "You did all this?"

Heather nodded. “Well when Fernando was here you kind of looked around for a moment like you wished it was different in here, so I thought I’d add a little colour. I kind of looked around your bedroom for hints of what you liked before choosing all this from what hints I found. It’s okay isn’t it?”

"It's great." Tallia answered enthusiastically, she'd never expected anything like this, "You even got a color scheme I love!"

Heather’s smile beamed. “Excellent!! Then it’s a present from me for everything you’ve done for me. I’d never have made it this far without you.”

"That's a common misconception amongst patients that we did all the work." Tallia shook her head, "Truth is you, the patients, do the hardest work in any recovery, we can't do it without you, and somehow we get given the credit."

“In that case just accept it as a compliment, after all without you doctors we patients wouldn’t get on the road to recovery in the first place!” Heather smiled. “I just wish I knew what happened to Jason and the others. I’m not sure whether or not I’d be able to lead anyone to where I was, it’s all a big blur in my mind at the moment!”

"Well, as you heal, you'll recover some memories, and you can share these with Commanders Taylor and Holmes, maybe they can find your friends." Tallia comforted her, "And I'll help them as I did you."

"I know you will Tallia." Heather smiled warmly. "So, tell me more about you. Seeing as we're roomies until I'm fit enough to get back to work i'd like to know more about you."

"Okay, what do you want to know?" Tallia asked, she was always bad at this sort of thing, never knew what to say, "Okay, I guess we'll start with the fact I'm super socially awkward..."

"Seriously? I would never have thought it." Heather smiled. "I was quite the wallflower myself when I was younger, guess I kind of grew out of it when I developed my abilities. Being able to sense the emotions of others gave me the edge on who to introduce myself to and who not."

"That would be an awesome talent to have." Tallia said, envious, "Would save more on grief than switching to GEICO."

"It's not all its cracked up to be though, it's difficult when a patient arrives in pain. That pain is something you feel too, the fear when a ship goes into battle, the terror of events. It can all be...overwhelming!" She sighed. "I just wish my senses would hurry up and come back, I'm adjusting but it still feels like I've lost a sizeable chunk of me."

"Hey, you're getting there." Tallia reassured her, "It just takes time, be patient."

"Sorry" Heather offered an apologetic smile. "It's hard to explain what it's like."

"And I couldn't really understand it if you did." Tallia shrugged, "I mean, the medical part of it, what happens to the body, I got all that down. The other parts? What happens to the person beyond the body, no understanding." She wrapped her arms around Heather and laid her head on the other woman's shoulder, "It's going to be okay, though, we'll get you through this."

Heather grinned as Talia gave her a hug. "I couldn't wish for a better friend or home. How long before I can stop going stir crazy here and help out in Sickbay? I know I have to speak to your Captain yet but give me some idea."

"I'm shooting for getting you back to a routine this week." Tallia informed her happily, hoping the information would please Heather as well, "See if we can't get you into a rotation soon."

"Are you serious?!" Heather's eyes lit up with excitement. "That's great!! Tallia I swear I could kiss you!" She looked embarrassed. "Not that I would of course."

"If I had a nickle for every time I heard that..." Tallia sighed.

Heather grinned. “You’d no doubt be very rich by now!” She paused to massage her temples.

"What's wrong, Heather?" Tallia asked immediately, jumping to get her medical tricorder.

“I’m fine, just a headache” Heather offered a smile. “Trust me, when you develop your Betazoid abilities when you hit puberty it’s like being hit by a very large sledgehammer. Main difference being that your head keeps reeling from the blow!” She paused to look up at Tallia. “You don’t think it could be my senses coming back do you?”

"Very well could be." Tallia replied, "The fog could be lifting finally."

"I hope so!" Heather smiled. "No doubt I'll find out soon enough. In the meantime I'd appreciate something for the headache, just nothing too strong. I just got off drugs, I don't intend to want them again."

"Yeah, that's not a problem." Tallia said, getting up to go replicate a minor analgesic for Heather, then stopping, "Actually, if you're interested, I might have something for your headache that doesn't require you to take anything."

"Okay, you've got me intrigued" Heather smiled. "What do I have to do?"

"Just grab a seat on the floor in front of the couch and I'll get started." Tallia offered, taking a seat on the couch and waiting for Heather to be ready.

Heather did as Tallia suggested and took a seat on the floor infront of the couch. She made herself as comfortable as she could be and waited to see what Tallia had in mind.

With Heather seated, Tallia began to massage Heather's scalp and temples, "I learned this from a Betazoid professor when I was at Starfleet medical. Releases tension from the brain."

“Mmmm and it feels good too.” Heather smiled as she relaxed. “I do love massages.”

"Who doesn't?" Tallia giggled, continuing to massage Heather's head, "How's the headache, one to ten?"

"It was about an eight, now...it's about 4." Heather smiled. "I have to say that really works!"

"Well, when you have severe headaches in the future we can go this route." Tallia offered, winking naughtily, "Or I can teach Fernando...."

"Knowing Fernando he probably knows this one already! Besides..." Heather grinned. "He has other ways of helping me relax. I'll definitely call on you if I need help with any headaches."

"Okay, that's cool." Tallia smiled, continuing Heather's massage, "We go until we reach zero pain."

Heather sat and enjoyed for another few minutes before her headache disappeared. "Wow, that actually works!" She smiled. "Thank you Tallia. Now I know what's best next time I get a headache."

"There we go." Tallia said, "Hopefully that means you'll be staying with me a while." She'd gotten used to having a roommate again quickly, it was comforting knowing she wasn't alone in the middle of deep space.

“You want me to stay as your roommate?” Heather smiled warmly. “Are you sure you won’t mind having Fernando around? He and I are...I guess you could say, an item!”

"Hey, just because I've got nobody doesn't mean you shouldn't." Tallia laughed, "And you're welcome to stay as long as you're comfortable."

“In that case I’d very much like to stay as your roommate. I feel at home here.” Heather smiled warmly.

"Then it's settled." Tallia said happily, she had never liked sleeping in a room, let alone a suite, alone, and having roommates had always raised her spirits anyway.

"Excellant" Heather smiled. "In that case I need to get myself some things to decorate my room. That's a shopping trip to look forward to." She smiled warmly.

"There you go." Tallia returned Heather's smile, this place was finally starting to look and feel like home.
