Baking Fun

Olivia had been looking forward to doing the cookie baking with Tayalas ever since she mentioned it when she went by to see her and Commander Norris about going on the visit to check up on S'hib to make sure he was doing alright not to long ago. When she did a bit of shopping in the shop area on board the ship, Olivia made sure to get items that she knew would be needed for baking the cookies that were planned. On one of her shopping trips, Olivia found the perfect item that she would get Tayalas that she hoped the little one would love and enjoy wearing when she would help in baking or cooking for that matter.

After getting everything set up ingredient wise, bowls, mixer, spoons, measuring cups, and recipes for chocolate chip, peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin cookies, Olivia went over to her desk to send a message to Commander Norris.

To: Commander Norris & Tayalas
From: Dr Olivia Voight

I have everything ready for little Tayalas to learn and help with baking cookies. I will be waiting for your arrival to join in on the fun. Then make deliveries to those select few that will get to enjoy the cookies.

After sending the message, Olivia went over to double check everything to make sure that she hadn't forgotten anything.

Gallia was lying on the couch waiting for Kara to arrive home, half asleep, when a ding from her padd startled her back to reality. She looked down at the message, wondering who could be calling at the obscene hour of five fifteen, and found a message addressed to herself and Tayalas, an invitation to Dr. Voight's place, "Tay, darlin', dae ye wanna go see Olivia?" She asked, "We've been invited te her place te make cookies."

"Wivia?" Tayalas asked as she raised her head from her coloring, "We go Wivia an' makey make cookies?"

"If ye wanna, love, aye." Gallia replied, sitting up and stretching.

"We go now, mommyyy?" Tayalas asked, pushing herself off of the floor to run to the couch and get mommy moving, "Pwease???"

"Okay, darlin', let mummy get some clean clothes on an' leave a note fer ye mummy Kara." Gallia smiled, rubbing Tayalas' snowy hair as she rose to handle those tasks.

"YAY!!! We go Wivia!!!" Tayalas squealed in delight, she loved seeing her friends.


Olivia went ahead and pre-measured out some of the ingredients for making the cookies, but didn't do all of them, for she wanted Tayalas to learn how to do some of the measuring of the ingredients while learning to making the cookies. She hoped that little Tayalas would have fun learning to make cookies and then delivering them to those special friends on her list. Once everything was set, Olivia went over to straighten up the living area while she waited for her guests to arrive.

After finishing up on making sure everything was ready, Olivia went to sit on her couch and relax for a little while before her guests arrived.

Gallia, Tayalas in her arms, walked to Olivia's quarters and rang the chime, waiting for the Doctor to invite them in, "We'll jus' be a second, Tay." Gallia promised, having no idea how lucky she was that the little girl had no concept of time as yet, since, if she was anything like Dolana, she would be very temporally literal.

Olivia got up from her couch when the chime rang and went over to answer the door. “Open,” Olivia said signaling the door to open and reveal Gallia on the other side with little Tayalas in her arms. “There’s my favorite little lady,” Olivia said with a smile. “I hope you are ready to have some fun learning to bake some cookies.” Olivia stepped back a little to allow her guests to enter. “Please come on inside.”

Gallia stepped through with Tayalas, smiling to Olivia as they did, her suddenly long hair pulled back into a ponytail to keep it out of her face, same as Tayalas, "Good te see ye, Doctor."

"Hewwo, Wivia!" Tayalas waved and smiled broadly, "We makey make cookies together!"

"That we are Tayalas," Olivia replied. "We will have lots of fun making the cookies and then delivering them to those you have on your list for delivery." Olivia turned her attention to Gallia then for a moment. "Please call me Olivia since we are off duty now. I hope I didn't interrupt anything you had planned already."

"Oh nay, ye didn't." Gallia chuckled, she was ready to form these cookies as much as the next girl was, "An' Tayalas is ready te go."

"Yeah, I ready to go, Wivia." Tayalas explained, "We makey the cookies together."

Olivia smiled over Tayalas. "I have a special surprise for you Tayalas, since you are the guest head baker today for this cookie baking session," Olivia said. Olivia took a few steps over to a small table and picked up the items she had gotten earlier for Tayalas. She held up the child sized apron that was a light pink in color with little duckies all over it. "Every good baker has to have their own special apron to wear while baking cookies."

"I unnastan, Wivia." Tayalas said through a smile, "We make cookies now?"

“We make cookies now,” Olivia said as she helped with her apron. “Just in case you get some of the cookie dough on your apron, it is alright. These duckies will like the taste of the cookies we are making and what they don’t eat will wash out.” Olivia lead the way over to the area where she had everything set up for their baking session. "This little step ladder here is to make it easier for you to reach things there on the counter while we do the baking of cookies. I will stand behind you so that you don't fall off of it," Olivia said.

"Okay, Wivia." Tayalas giggled as she took her step ladder and apron to begin the task of cookies.

“Got to make sure you are able to see what your doing and remain safe at the same time while baking,” Olivia replied. “As you can see, I went ahead and measured out a few things to make it a little easier to start with on our first batch of cookies,” Olivia said. Not everything is done yet, since I wanted you to help with a couple things, so you could learn at the same time. Our first batch of cookies will be the chocolate chip cookies.”

"Ooh, choccy chips." Tayalas said as she stepped up, "Momma, look, I got duckies on my apwon."


"Yes, ye do darlin." Gallia smiled, it did her heart good to see Tay smiling.

Olivia picked up one of the empty measuring cups and the bag of chocolate chips. “The recipe that we are using calls for 2 to 4 cups of chocolate chips,” Olivia said. “ She pointed on the measuring cup where the two cup mark was and the four cup mark. “ So we can put in as many chocolate chips as we want to for this batch of cookies. I’m going to let you pour the chocolate chips into the measuring cup. If we need to later on once we get everything mixed together we can always add in more of the chocolate chips. As the guest head baker today you even get to snatch a few of the chocolate chips to eat if you wanted to do so.” Olivia opened up the bag of chocolate chips and carefully handed the bag to Tayalas.

"Ookay, Wivia." Tayalas grinned, as she took a few of the choccy chips from the bag to eat and went, "Ummm, good."

“Chocolate chips are always good,” Olivia said. “Sometimes I will even mix them with some nuts, raisins, and a couple other items to have as a snack on occasion. Your mommy might let you try some at some point to see if you like it.” Olivia started to pour some of the chocolate chips into the measuring cup. “ Now how much do you want me to pour into our measuring cup?”

"All dem!" Tayalas exclaimed proudly, "We give all the choccy chips!"

"Generous sort, isnae she?" Gallia laughed and kissed the little girl.

Olivia softly laughed as she poured all the chocolate chips into the measuring cup. “That the fun of doing up chocolate chip cookies,” Olivia replied. “Got to make sure everyone gets their fair share of the chocolate chips and doesn’t feel cheated on the amount of the chocolate chips in their cookies. I’ve been known to add extra myself every so often when I do up a batch myself.”

"We makey cookies now." Tayalas said, getting impatient to get started.

"Alright little lady," Olivia said as she moved the mixing bowl closer to Tayalas. She then picked up the bowl with the granulated sugar in it that had already been measured out. "Now here is the first ingredient to go into the bowl. It is granulated sugar. You get to pour it into the big bowl."

OCC: thought it would be good to get started on teaching Tayalas how to make cookies. =)
