Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Gary's/ Lia's Quarters
2971 words - 5.9 OF Standard Post Measure

Gary had finished his shift and changed into a pullover shirt and khaki pants. He was seated on the couch a glass of wine in his hand. Another sat on the table for Lia when she got home. They had agreed to be married but hadn't talked about the changes it would bring to their respective lives hence the glasses of wine. That they loved each other wasn't even an issue. They did totally and completely. This wasn't about love this was about ...compatible. Living in the same space with each other's little habits and getting use to them much like they got use to each other and fell in love. He leaned back a smile on his face as he thought back to their meeting in his office and how Lia flat out told him she didn't trust him. An away mission to Risa changed that and the rest is history.

Walking down the corridor, Lia had decided to have a little talk with Gary. She had to know where she stood in regards the wedding, and in some ways where they stood as a couple. Being married was totally different from being just a couple, could he handle her little traits? Could she handle his little traits? In fact, just what were his little traits? So far things had been normal in the bedroom department, well apart from her problem which was now under control. But did he want more of that kind of thing? Did he like that sort of thing? She arrived at their cabin and taking a deep breath she entered, to find Gary waiting with a glass of wine in hand. *Seems we're on the same page* she thought.

Gary stood as Lia entered, "Hi." He said as he kissed her, "Have a glass of wine here for you as well. It's nicely chilled. Change so we can talk." He said without trying to be too cryptic or mysterious. Then he added, "Nothing bad just a talk to see where we're at with the wedding." He kissed her again and realized he was probably making her more nervous so he shut up and sat down.

She simply nodded and walked into the bedroom to change, closing the door she swallowed. *He's got cold feet*, she reasoned. Taking off her uniform she now picked up her Yukata, she removed her underwear and washed herself. Drying off she simply placed the Yukata on, and tied the Obi in front. Her concern wasn't Gary seeing her naked, hell he'd seen her that many times he probably knew her body as well as she did. No her concern was what he was about to say, or not as the case maybe. She re-entered the sitting room and crossed to where Gary sat, picked up the wine and waited. Her Yukata slipped from her shoulder, but for now she wasn't worried talk first.

Gary saw Lia's tenseness. It radiated off her in waves. he best put that fire out right now. "Lia, relax. I promise nothing bad. Come sit with me so we can just talk as a couple. We have a wedding to plan for you know." Hoping saying that would relieve some of the tension in Lia. The last thing he wanted was her on edge He smiled at he and let out a nervous chuckle. Where or how to begin." He said with a sigh. "Guess it's best to just jump in." He took a big sip of his wine. "With living together fulltime, we're probably going to see traits we haven't seen before so to avoid any future misunderstandings I figured we talk now."

Lia sat beside Gary and took a drink of wine, then found out she didn't like it. "Sorry, do you mind if I change this for a Saki?" She rose and got another glass and poured herself a Saki, then returned to Gary's side. "Ok, lets talk traits. And wedding plans, and what ever else we need to clear the air". God that sounded a bit harsh, "Sorry, didn't mean to come over that way. I've just never been in this situation before, do you know I have no idea just what turns you on". That made her sound desperate, was she desperate? No she wasn't but hell just let the man talk, sort out the problems as they come.

Gary chuckled, "Lia it is okay. You are right we need to talk and plan for the wedding. "As for what turns me on. You turn me on Lia. the simple fact of you being you is incredibly sexy." He admitted. He looked at her glass, "I was going to fill it with Saki but I thought wine would different. Sorry you didn't like it." He smiled at her, "What turns Lia Holmes? What does she like or not like? I have no complaints in the bedroom department but as we're a couple this isn't about just me. What about you Lia?"

"Wine and me is a no no, guess I'll stick with Saki". She looked at his face and wondered how she should respond, "I think you know what turns me on, it's turning me off again that's the problem". She moved a little closer to him, "I like a lot of things, but they're not your usual things. Your cabin is a testament to that, I mean Japanese Tea Room?" She waved her hands about as she spoke, her guard slowly falling away. Gary could do that to her, did he know he had that over her?

"I'll make a note of that. No wine for Lia." He said with a grin. He placed an arm around her. "Correction that was a problem but it is under control now." He nodded as he continued, "And yes I do." As he didn't want to delve deeper into that. It was fine every once in awhile but not for every day. He looked around their quarters. Lia had done an amazing job converting his bachelor pad into a Japanese Tea Room. "Chief among those likes all things Japanese." He noted. "Which I love by the way." He smiled as he said his next. "You know me Lia. I'm old fashion but I'm always ready to learn new things and ideas."

She nestled into him, "Your an old fart at times, but I think I can get used to it". She giggled and took a sip of Saki, enjoying the warmth as it went down. "I have got to be honest here, I have unusual traits. Some you might like, at least one you don't even though you tried just for me". Lia looked up at the ceiling, "I need to really know you, what really makes you happy. What you really like in the bedroom department, a girl's got to know these things". She giggled again, "I can't have you always leading the way, plus you never let yourself go. Even now, your holding a little back". She stretched up and kissed his lips, "I want us to enjoy our lives together, now talking about enjoying things. Our wedding ceremony, just how are we going to do this?" She took another sip of Saki, but her mind was still sharp.

"Well thank goodness you can." Gary laughed as he and Lia talked. As for your traits being unusual, I doubt that." He looked into her eyes, "You make me happy, this, us just sitting talking makes me happy. Dancing, singing to you makes me happy. I like the simple joys Lia and your right. I don't let myself go. Some I suppose is my training. Some I suppose is I like to at least feel I'm in control of a situation. I don't mean with you or telling you what you can or can't do. I guess it's just being ready for whatever comes." He sat his glass on the table. "I love you Lia. Now, tomorrow, ten thousand tomorrows from now. I don't know how or why you fell in love with me but I'm glad you did."

He nodded, "Our wedding. I like the sound of that. I'm guessing you'll want certain Japanese elements in it correct?"

"Why did I fall for you? Who knows, it's one of the mysteries of the universe". She nodded as he mentioned Japanese elements, "Only if you don't mind a few Japanese bits being added, I do have a wedding Kimono I need to use you know". Placing her own glass on the table she sat up and moved her self up close to Gary, "Like I said, I have a few unusual traits. A certain Japanese Lieutenant helped to bring them out, I only wish she were here to see just how I turned out". Lia now picked up her glass again, "This Mr. Taylor is a habit you introduced, you have also introduced one or two more. But I don't intend to list them here, I'm not an old nag you know".

Gary hugged her closer. "She knows Lia. She knows and she couldn't be happier to see how you turned out." He nodded on her comments about her Kimono. "I definitely want you to wear it Lia. it's important to you so it's important to me." He chuckled as she picked up her glass. "I did didn't I? Which is only fair as you showed me the Japanese culture and cuisine to me which I am grateful for." He kissed her again. "You are definitely not an old nag Lia. Not even close."

As Gary hugged her, she thought about how far they'd come. The three years of at first hate and distrust, then a slow fall into a relationship. Finally the arrival of living together and the proposal of marriage, together they had over come so many heartaches and problems. Would married life be the same? Would their marriage survive the tribulations of the past two years? And what if the Romulans re-appeared? Would Gary do something stupid, and try to defend her against them? Lia's mind tumbled in and out of different scenario's, all of which made her doubt herself and the course she was about to travel. "Do you have any doubts about getting married? About me?" She had to ask, even though she knew what he'd say. She just had to hear it, and possibly believe it this time.

Gary looked at her, confusion on his face. "Doubts? Lia marrying you is one of two things I am absolutely certain about. The other is you. You are a remarkable woman, you have overcome a great deal along the way to get to this point." He paused for a beat and continued. "Look at us, look at what we have overcome. When we first met we couldn't stand each other. You even said you wouldn't trust me if I was the last man alive." The last said with a laugh. "Now, since you asked me, I'll ask you. Do you have any doubts about us getting married? About me? Now the time to speak up and get it out in the open if you do." With that he sat back and awaited Lia's reply.

She sat and looked at the floor, her mind now in turmoil at how to answer him. "I have a few doubts, not about us directly but about you. Or more to the point, you and the Romulans". Lia looked up at Gary, "I don't doubt you mean what you say, about me and the two of us. But I doubt, no worry about what might happen if we cross swords with the Romulans again". She reached out and took his hand in her own, "I couldn't go on living if you did something stupid because of me, you have this tendency to switch off and go rogue. I don't want you to go rogue over me, I chose this life willingly and I'll live or die in the course of my duty". She took shallow breaths and tried to focus, but a cold fear started to crawl up her spine. "Promise me, promise me you won't go rogue over me. Promise me you'll go on living, if the worst happens". Her voice broke at the last moment, revealing her true feelings for Gary. Now she would see how he would react to her request, to her plea.

Gary listened in silence as Lia spoke of them and his dealings with the Romulans. Heard her voice break and her plea for him to promise to go on living if the worst would happen. "We both chose this life Lia and we both know the risks. Yet you want me to promise not to do anything stupid or go rogue. I will tell you this, when it comes to the Romulans I never do anything stupid. I assure you of that." He paused he knew how much this meant to her, his promise. Saw the overwhelming love she had for him to make such a plea. "Lia." He started then stopped as he collected his thoughts. He began again, Lia, you are my world. I don't say that lightly. it is true yet you want a promise from me if something happens to you. I didn't ask for a promise from you." He sighed looked into her eyes, took a deep breath and said, " I promise to go on living if something happened to you." What he didn't say was *After I kill every Romulan I can find. Vengeance will be mine.*

She heard his reply, but there was that wall. That little bit of Gary he didn't want even her to see, Lia knew there was more to his answer but now chose not to push it with him. *Maybe in time, you'll trust me as much as I trust you*, she thought. "If you want me to promise something to you, just ask. I'll be honest about it, open and honest". It was a subtle hint that she knew he was holding back, but she would accept it because she trusted him after all this time of learning how to.

Gary was silent for several moments just looking at Lia. He caught her subtle hint but chose not to reply to it directly. He knew where she was coming from. She saw him go rogue back at the Romulan prison where he was justified in killed Pig in cold blood. So he knew the basis of her plea. "Lia, I'm not going to ask you to promise. To do that means I don't take you at your word and that isn't the case. I trust you completely and totally. Never, please never think I don't."

Lia simply moved herself and kissed him full on the lips. "I trust you, and in your own way. I think you trust me, and we have a life to live together". She reached for her Saki and took a small sip, "It will be a long life, and in maybe two or three years. We won't be living it by ourselves, at least I'm hoping we won't". Placing her glass back on the table she once again took Gary's hand into her own, "We're about to embark on a journey, one I never thought I would take. But it's taken us three years to get here, so tell me Mr. Taylor. What do you want and expect from our future life?"

He squeezed her hand gently. "We do have a life to live together. Nothing would make me happier than to hear the pitter patter of little feet. it would make our life even more perfect." He smiled. "It's been a long and winding road but the destination has been worth the wait. As for what I expect. The sky is the limit and I am ready for anything and everything future Mrs. Taylor." He stopped a grin on his face, "Say, that reminds me what are you going to about your last name?"

"I hadn't thought about it, what do you think? Should I become Mrs. Taylor? Or perhaps we could become Taylor-Holmes, I hadn't really decided. And as most of my friends are busy, I can't get any feed back from them". Lia glanced at Gary, would he want to add her name to his? Did she want to carry her own name forwards into her new life? "As for tiny feet, I have a few operations to have before then. But are you really sure you can handle a rival to the Blueberry?" She giggled at her last comment, remembering how much Gary loved Tayalas . "I know I have a name for a girl, but do you have any names you might like?"

Of course I think you should become Mrs. Taylor. We wouldn't be getting married if I didn't." He teased, "How about Holmes-Taylor? That's if you want to keep your last name." His smile broaden when Lia mentioned little feet. "There's no rush. Gives us more time together." Gary pointed out. I can handle it. I'll always love Tayalas. She is a wonderful child and she'll always be my Blueberry." he shook his head "A name? Um, I like Heather, Samantha, call her Sam for short and lets see Amanda."

A smile cam over Lia's face as Gary spoke of Tayalas, he loved kids and she would reward that love eventually. The names he stated fitted him exactly, old names solid names. Names she could live with, but what about boy's names? She'd never thought about boy's names, had he ever thought about boy's names? "What about boys'? Have you thought about boy's names? Because I haven't, and to be honest the only one that springs to mind is Hiro. He was Ayuki's brother, I met him once after she died".

This was a pleasure to write, and equally a pleasure to read. I've done it twice now and I'm surprised how quickly it seems to go. Thank you Jeff for writing this with me, I really enjoyed it I hope and trust you did to.
