Physical evaluations. Kara had been used to them since she was twelve years old, ever since she had seen her first doctor regarding her transition. It wasn't something she spoke of openly to many. As far as she was concerned, she was never born male, she had always been female. Regardless of the operations and medications she had to take. However for the rest of her life, she would be submitted to the joys of physicals. She however was told that doctors on-board starships are generally less intense and much more relaxed than those aboard stations. For what reason she would probably never know. As she exited the turbolift and approached sickbay her stomach heaved a little. She entered and looked around. A perfectly sterile medical bay. Beautiful to her, although some may not understand the beauty as she does. "Hello? Is anyone around?" She said aloud, walking slowly into the centre of the quiet medical bay. Pristine instruments cradled with perfection in their trays that spanned all four shelves, of the cupboard. She meandered over inspecting the instruments, so much technology. She was pleased to see a well kept sickbay. The sickbay in the academy was used by students and trainee's mostly, and was a cluttered mess, she had grown accustomed to it. This tidiness made her feel confident that the medical care was excellent.
" Bay three." The voice of the gorn doctor echoed through the sickbay. It was slightly muffled as he clearly had something in his mouth. His left hand removed the torch from his mouth before picking up his artificial arm and reattaching it to his socket port. After flexing his artificial fingers he stood up and opened the door. " Hello there. Ensssign Kara Hoffman here for you're medical evaluation?" He asked as politely as he could given his reptilian voice.
Kara turned with quick reflexes and sighed a little. "Doc, oh right yes, bay three, right." She wandered over into the bay, and sat on the bio bed. instinctively began removing her shirt. It was a common practice in her situation and was so very used to it. The doctor would probably inspect her blood pressure, blood tests, then hormonal levels and check for signs of breast tissue abnormality. It was the one thing that federation scientists had not yet figured out how to cure, breast cancer. In her particular situation it was a tricky and difficult topic if it ever cropped it, which she hoped would never happen. "Well doc, it's good to meet ya!" She said as enthusiastically as she could.
" Asss it isss to meet you. I'm Ssthilg and I'll be you're doctor for the day. Have you received any injuriesss or had any illnessss not on you're profile sssince you're lassst medical vissst?" He asked politly as he fired up the bio beds scanner.
"Nope. I've been feelin' fine. Well not quite actually, i did sprain my wrist but that was on one of my first few days on-board, that sprain is long gone now." She lay down to allow the scanner to operate. "So, how have things been for you doc? I hope it's been quiet in here, oh not that i mean that in a rude way, i'm just saying i hope not too many of our crew-mates are getting injuries." ~Nice Kara, real nice, calling a doctor's job boring. Good job genius, a great start. Hopefully he doesn't think me rude.~
" Oh it's been busy. Cleaning up the messss, dealing with the wounded and having to re attach one of your fellow crewmatesss leg. Ssstill in my 430 yearsss in this galaxy, I've been busssier. " The gorn replied keeping his eyes on the ensign and the screen.
~Wait 430. Four centuries? Wish i could live that long, and i bet he still has three hundred or so more. He's probably not even middle aged yet, incredible.~ "So, how's everything lookin'. I hope i'm healthy. I do try and eat well, although i do sometimes skip a meal here or there, you know how it can be."
" Everything looking well with in acceptable perimetersss. Jussst need a blood sssample and I have to give you an injection. There a cassse of flomonion flu that'sss been going and I want to nip it in the bud. Don't worry you're perfectly sssafe." The gorn said as he saved the data to the bays hard drive.
"Thanks doc." She waited with as much patience as she could muster for the injection. "You're right, I can't afford to be Ill right now, too much work to do" She laughed trying to dispell her own nerves. She always felt a little uneasy in medical facilities, her mind would drift off to the myriad of dangers that could land her up here injured or worse.
" Don't worry you won't feel a thing." The gorn said as he pressed the hypo spray into her neck before giving her a reassuring " All done."
Kara smiled. "Thanks. Is there anything else you need or am i free to leave doc?"
" You're free to go. Remember to drop by if you feel anything wrong. " The gorn said giving a reassuring smile.
With that Kara bowed her head and jumped off the bio-bed. She pulled up her uniform and fastened it once more. "Cheers! Hey I wonder if maybe you could send someone to restock the medical supplies down in engineering, we're runnin' a wee touch low. We've had quite a few minor injuries down there. The young ones, touching things they shouldn't, falling over and so on...that kind of thing. It'd be much appreciated!"
" I'll make it a priority and have sssomeone drop of more sssuplies by the end of the ssshift." The gorn said holding up his wrist computer and tapping in a note.
"Much obliged kind doctor. I'll not keep you any longer, have a great day!" Kara said, as she bowed her head with respect and headed out of the door, back into the corridor. She still didn't finish her shift for another four hours yet and there was much work to be done.
