Mission: Season 2: Mission 2: Just Breath
Location: Holodeck 2
Timeline: Current
785 words - 1.6 OF Standard Post Measure

Gary stood outside the holodeck. He had thought of running a western themed one but his heart wasn't in it.
Despite his talk with Lia and their relationship being stronger then ever he was still uneasy knowing what had
transpired on the "Planet of Twins" and right now he needed to talk to someone who knew him better than
anyone even Lia.

"Computer run Taylor program Solestice 1"

"Program running. You may enter when ready." Came the emotionless reply of the computer.

Taking a deep breath, Gary entered and found himself standing in the cabin of his first posting on the USS Solestice and
he wasn't alone. "Gary!!!!!!!!!!!!" Came a voice from the bedroom. Turning he saw his wife, Catlin standing there. Hands
on her hips and huge smile on her face. "Captain let you off your shift early?" She inquired coming into the room to throw
her arms over his neck and kiss him. "I love you Gary Taylor." She whispered in his ear. He smiled and replied "I love you
Catlin Taylor, now and until the end of time." He replied in their usual ritual. "You better!" She laughed as she took his hand
and led him to the couch where they sat down.

She studied him for several seconds before speaking, "What's wrong?" He blinked at her, "Wrong? Nothing is wrong why?"
"Uh huh." She giggled, "Your thinking on something.... hard. Your forehead got all those little wrinkles in it." He sighed, she
knew him too well. "Nothing really Catlin, just thinking." She slid over to him and he wrapped his arm around her as she
snuggled next to him. "Gary, you can pull that with others not me. I'm your wife and your best friend. Now spill it." She
demanded. "Catlin....." He began then stopped knowing she would she right through any excuse he came up with. "Just
thinking on how much I love you." She laughed, "I love you too but it's more than that isn't it? Your thinking what are you
going to do if something happens to me, aren't you?" He couldn't answer, he just nodded. "You listen to me Gary, you will
go on, don't you dare defile my love for you by wallowing in self pity." He shook his head, "Catlin, I could never forget you."
He replied softly. "I didn't safe forget, you lummox, I said move on. I know, I'll live forever in your heart and that's the best
and most wonderful place to be." She pushed back to look at him, "You know your trouble Gary? You try too hard please everyone,
me, the Captain other members of the crew and I love you for your thoughtfulness but you never think of yourself and if something
happens to me, you have to. I don't want you building walls and keeping the world out. You need to live Gary."

He nodded, speechless at her words but that was Catlin, she could cut away the excess and get right to the heart of any matter. "Catlin...."
Sshhhhh...." She replied putting a finger on his lips. "You just listen. Everyone thinks your this big, tough macho guy but I know better."
Her eyes twinkling in delight,"I know your secret." She giggled. "Secret? What secret?" She smiled and fell into him, kissing him as she did.
"You are a softy Gary. You try too hard, in your job, in pleasing me..." He snorted at her, "Catlin, I want to get promoted and your my wife,
of course I want to please you." She shook her head, "No, your missing the point. I want you to do your job well. But you don't have to do
EVERYTHING." She stressed, "Let others do their jobs. As for me, it won't hurt for you to say no to me once in awhile. Makes when you say
yes even more special. I'm not glass Gary, I won't break."

He pulled her close and kissed her passionately, Thankful for her wisdom and insight. He hugged her tightly, never wanting to let her go but
he knew he must but he could still enjoy these moments before he had to leave. He stood up and extended a hand to her. A look of confusion
stretched across her face, "May I have this dance?" Her eyes lit up and her laugh sounded like the tinkling of bells. "You certainly may." She replied
as she took his hand and stood up. "Computer, play "As Time Goes By." As the strands of the classic song filled their quarters, Gary Taylor waltzed
his late wife around the room. Looking at her and then heavenward, he whispered, "Thanks for the memories."

Going back is such bitter sweet memories, very well thought out post taking the reader into the mind of Gary Taylor. No rose tinted glasses, just the loss of a loved one. Well done for a great read, keep it up.
