Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Main Shuttle Bay
1065 words - 2.1 OF Standard Post Measure

OOC: I'm bringing my Squadron Lead from another ship onboard as a PNPC. I think you'd like her.

OOC: I do!

Lt. Jessica "Valkyrie" Vaii inspected the new pilots, fresh out of the academy. She shook her head as she inspected them. "By all the four goddesses of Betazed. You little turds are the most worthless pieces of excrement I've seen in all of my twenty years of flying. If you think just because you have a pip on your shoulder that I am going to let you turds fly, you have another thing coming. Id rather marry you turds than ever put you in a cockpit."

One of the pilot's hid a smirk. "So dose that mean if we manage to get into the cockpit of a Federation Starfighter, ma'am; you'll marry us." One of the cadets chuckled and got a glare from the Lieutenant.

"You turds are never going to get into the cockpit of a Federation Space-Superiority Starfighter. So I will have nothing to worry about. But it looks like if I told you to take a hike and get lost, you turds won't hop on that transport shuttle and leave. And if somehow all of you turds somehow become combat fighter pilots, then maybe if you get me enough wine; I'll actually be drunk enough to marry you worthless nits." Jess noted. "What you learned at the academy, in those trainers is over. You're my problem now, as Starfleet apparently thinks I'm a skilled enough pilot to train turds, and I find that insulting."

"Now meet me at the holodeck at 0500 tomorrow morning. Bring a Scarf." Vaii mentioned. "Dismissed."

Gary had stayed off to the side as Lieutenant Vail met and 'talked' with her class of pilots. When she had finished and dismissed them he pushed off the wall and walked over to her. "Quite a speech Lieutenant. Is there any hope for them?"

"First thing I have to do is let them figure out that the days of invincibility at the academy are over. You won't die in a training simulator." She noted. "The academy gives you about four or so years of saying 'yes, sir' and hitting the books. This will be like nothing they've ever experienced in their lifetime. They'll meet Baron von Richtoffen tomorrow, he'll tell them his rules."

"I'm Lieutenant Jessica Vaii. The most Human Betazoid you'll ever meet, and I've been flying since the day I stole a Starfleet Shuttlecraft and decided to vent my teenage frustrations." She chuckled. "It scared the hell out of me."

"Commander Gary Taylor, pleased to meet you Lieutenant. The Red Baron. Impressive. That should be interesting to say the least. What of the aces of World War II, the Korean War? if your going to throw them into to the fire, go all the way."

"They'll learn the rules of engagement from the good Baron. They'll learn teamwork and coordination from Claire Lee Chennault of the Flying Tigers." She grinned. "They'll learn Basic Spaceflight from Jim Lovell, and how to deal with the unexpected. We'll have Chuck Yeager test their endurance under speed, then they'll learn how to land from Sully Sullenberger. He'll test their critical thinking skills under pressure. They'll learn modern spaceflight maneuvers from Ch'lan and Hikaru Sulu. And I'm going to throw them curves. They'll loose a power conduit or their weapons at a critical time."

"Sound like you have it all planned out. My compliments. If and when any of these young guns make it through all this, are you going to have a Top Gun scenario where they go up against others in their class or their instructor?"

Jess smiled. "I'm going to send them all on patrol. You and I along with some other veteran aces will launch in Romulan Scimitars, and we'll jump them, and knock them off their pedestal." She noted. "Win or loose, they'll either decide this life is to much for them and transfer to botany, or they'll decide not to give up, not to give in. No surrender. And they'll keep on pushing, bleeding, and fighting until they even push the damn Jem'Hadar of their damn world. And when they get a dozen turds, they're supposed to turn into pilots, they'll put them to the grindstone too."

Gary nodded as Jess finished just what she had planned for her class or recruits. A unabashed smile appeared on his face, "You have a truly evil and diabolical mind Lieutenant. I like it." He walked besides her, "Not one to tell you how to run your class but I think an added wrinkle to their final test, you should have them lose contact, be cut off from the others. It will show you how well they listened and learned the lessons you were teaching them. It is of course only suggestion."

"Good idea, Commander." Jess noted. "The thing is, if you don't get knocked off the horse, you never learn how to dust yourself off and get back on it. I'm interested in those pilots, the people who keep on trying no matter how many times they get knocked off."

"Glad you think so Jess." Gary replied smoothly. "Getting back on the horse is all well and good. There's a lot to be said for being stubborn. You should be interested in these pilots, they represent you and your teachings and ideals. You have a lot invested in them. However I also think there comes a point when you have to say no, they don't have what it takes."

"I hope to the four goddesses some of them do, Boss." Jess mentioned. "How many of us are real pilots out there? I look around and I see fighters but empty cockpits. Maybe not all of them will make it, but I'll praise the four goddesses if they're watching my arse."

"For all our sakes, I hope so as well Jess." Gary answered solemnly. Gary looked out from his cockpit and indeed there were a large number of empty fighters. "Don't know Jess, you and I are, then there's your wanna bees. Captain may feel she doesn't need a full fighter squadron up in the sky. Doesn't want to spook the locals." He chuckled humorlessly, "Don't worry. We can handle it."
