Brief Interview with Ms Elisha Pryce-Randal - onboard Ship Reporter

EPR: What is your role on the Elysium? And what does it entail?

VBT: I am the Chief of Engineering. The job entails overseeing all Engineering functions on the ship as well go on away missions as defined by Starfleet. Plus I do Engineering Projects which will improve Starfleet like tight now I am coming up with ways of improving the telecommunications badge."

EPR: What made you choose that line of work?

VBT: My mother is an Engineer and growing up, I have known some of the greatest engineers in Starfleet. My mechanical aptitude was tested by them to see how much I comprehended Engineering. They all recommended me to major in Engineering. There was only one incidence at the Academy where they suggested Diplomatic Corps but I told them my heart is in Engineering.

EPR:How do you handle the pressure that comes with being a Starfleet officer?

VBT: Taking fear out of the equation. There is a moment in a crisis, I get a second wind where there is no feeling of pressure. You just have to concentrate on what you are doing. You essential have to see the big picture. There are engineers who work under me who are in their fifties but they still could not handle what I do. Plus I feel it is important each shift has an Assistant Chief Engineer. This helps with the synergy of the Department.

EPR: What would you say to a cadet aspiring to do what you do?

VBT: Apply yourself more than you ever felt possible. It is not what you know but what you do with what you know. Plus follow your dreams and not the dreams of others. I had seen cadets change their major two or three times because their parents had their hearts their child would major in something like Engineering or Medicine but they really can not grasp the curriculum courses. They either spend more their four years or they just drop out. My daughter who is about to turn nine aptitude are in both Science and Engineering. If she decides one day to go into Medicine or another field, I will encourage Lara one hundred percent. As far as my son Vick, whatever he wants to do is okay by me.

EPR: What is your favorite memory of your time at the academy?

VBT: Skateboard racing down Lombard Street with Tonya. She had no fear and the one in this reality is the same way as far as taking risks. Another memory not a favorite but one I never forget, another student on a training exercise almost got himself killed. We were in a survival course training and his back pack caused him to go underwater when it was caught in some weeds. I asked two cadets go get help. Another cadet stayed with me. He had a panic attack, so I had to go down fifty feet by myself. I managed to save the other cadet.

EPR: Do you have any funny tales to tell about your time on the USS Elysium?

VBT: When I first showed up, I showed up in one of the crew quarters with no shirt on. I do not think the crewmember would appreciate me talking about it. A gentleman is always discrete. If you want another funny tale, I set the Holodeck for my program called Barclay de Tolly Island Aventure. I had no idea my daughter created one with the same name. The Engineers got a big laugh when they saw bunch of Hawaiian muscular men wearing hulu skirts or whatever you call them.
