Aerin had settled in nicely, and quickly. She had dropped some personal items off at her living quarters and thought it best to meet her new CO, a Commander Arrianna Salannis an Vantar. She was Alindari, a species that Aerin knew very little about but would look forward to researching, digging in and around to make a grab for every piece of knowledge she could get.

She began in the science lab as she had heard that's where all the ships madness happened. Aerin was a little apprehensive about it but sometimes madness was good in the right doses.

Arrianna was her usuall stoic self in the Elysium's Cybernetics Hotlab. Once again, she was opening a reinforced container containing another Borg Implant. Arri tapped a PADD and spoke. "Occular Aparatus A11-3-A. Acquired from USS Enteprise E after the Battle of 001. Device shows tell-tale signs that Borg Implants are custom cybernetics built to the specifications of the life form being assimilated and his or her assigned role in the collective. Reasearcher preparing to commense dissasembly of implant for analysis." Arri mentioned to the padd.

Aerin looked over the womans shoulder and recoiled slightly at the sight of what she was working on. She went even so far as to stumbled backwards a little with surprise. "Borg..." she said out loud unbeknownst to herself.

Arrianna turned around. "Greetings Lieutenant, What can I do for you? Oh.. I see you're surprised by the Borg Defensive Research Lab? Yes most people are taken aback. This is a specialized lab designed to study Borg technology and implants. A continuation of two centuries of research and development my people have conducted since we encountered the Borg."

"I am Lieutenant Olovaris, just transferred here and yes I am surprised anyone would have that near them. I still have nightmares from the day the destroyed El Auria." The answered openly as she eyed the ocular implant.

"We have heard of the El-Aurians, some of your people joined the Exile fleet during the time we were driven from our homeworld by the Borg." Arrianna noted. "Since then, my people have dedicated our substantial academic community to studying the Borg. Their technology, strategies, philosophy, and even their methods. Our goal is to prevent our new homeworld, and the Federation we've joined, from falling to the Collective. This is my life's research; to develop technology and strategies for a battle fleet capable of defeating them forever." Arri nodded. "This is my life's work; Nanoinhibitors designed to prevent assimilation. Weapons that cannot be adapted to. Even the greatest thing we covet; Liberation.

"We fled in all directions, but most of us came this way." Aerin replied as she studied the implant once more. "We had an engineer called Miazami, my cousin. He introduced a sleep code into the Borg network hundreds of years ago. They slept, but like all hibernating creatures they woke up. They still scare the Hells out of me but I would not be a good academic if I did not see the positives of study." She smiled at the woman, albeit a little hesitantly.

"When the Searing of Alindar started, the Borg neglected one princess who was touring the Ascelon Academy." She mentioned. "She gathered what ships and people she could, and ordered them into the Nebula of the Lost. Destroying our colonies as we left, so there would be no trace of where we went. We spent years in the great nebula. So after they gave up, we left the great nebula and spent two centuries looking for a new home." Arri continued. "When we arrived in this part of the galaxy. We were astounded by the Federation. They had defeated them, twice in battle. Not even the combined might of the Imperium's Armada could do that. Other than the Federation's noble principles, that was all that was needed to convince my people to petition for Federation Membership. In return, we promised our unwaivering loyalty and all of our knowledge on the Borg." Arri noted.

"Yes, the El Aurian Defence Force struggled with defeating them also." Aerin said in bewilderment. With all their advances beyond that of the Federation, of Starfleet, they still could not stop the Borgs advance. "The Humans seem to have this undying momentum that carries them to achieve their goals. We were smug, thought we had time on our side but The Exodus happened anyway and we were scattered. My people still hide, still recover and maybe one day they will reveal our hidden world to the Federation." She said with hope. Aerin had always hated that the council had chosen to hide, but she was young and what did she know?

"Now you know how vital this research is, Lieutenant." Arrianna mentioned. "We know the Borg will come to this part of the galaxy in force, Humanity is an anomaly they cannot ignore. We will be ready to destroy the collective." Arri noted. "My people will defend the Federation to the Death. We see humans eventually triumphing over the Borg, therefore we will defend them, to the end."

"Well I hope to never see them again, personally." Aerin said but still nodding in agreement with the woman. They had done enough to her in one century for them to do more in the ones to come. She remembered the incursions, the Battle for Sector 001, their assimilation of Admiral Picard. It was enough to deduce a pattern of behaviour from their cybernetic foes, if they weren't guided by the nefarious thoughts of a Queen.

Their conversations continued for a while and Aerin smiled, she would get on well here.
