Brief Interview with Ms Elisha Pryce-Randal - onboard Ship Reporter

EPR: What is your role on the Elysium? And what does it entail?

EL: I'm one of the science officers working the Alpha shift. I am mostly around to assist the Chief science officer in research experiments or any other science work that is required at the time. I personally have specialisms in Geosciences and Xenobiology but being a science officer I get called upon for much more than just my specialties.

EPR: What made you choose that line of work?

EL: I became a science officer for Starfleet because of my life back on Trill. I was always interested in science and always wondered what lived beyond our stars. I used to stay up past my bedtimes as a child reading data pad after data pad of different planets and how their landscapes were formed.

EPR:How do you handle the pressure that comes with being a Starfleet officer?

EL: Before joining Starfleet I saw a starfleet officer as someone that could deal with any problem without breaking a sweat. Nerves of steel that could give them resolve through the worst of times. Though this assessment was correct what I learned joining Starfleet and the Elysium is that it is the crew working together that makes things possible.

Pressure of being a Starfleet officer and upholding the image of the United Federation of Planets is a heavy burden if you assume it's only yours to carry alone. You uphold your part yes but you do it as a team, a family and a crew.

EPR: What would you say to a cadet aspiring to do what you do?

EL: Listen to your instinct. It's plain and simple but it's something that I wish I knew when I was a cadet. I spent many sleepless nights at the academy trying to work out best responses to situations I would be assessed on as I was solely focused on getting it right.

If I approached those assessments listening to what I knew the right solution to be than my over analysis then I would have not only got more marks in my assessments but I would have got more sleep.

EPR: What is your favorite memory of your time at the academy?

EL: One of my best memories is from a day trip one of my few peers I would call a friend took me on to explore the nearby city. She wanted to take me to explore the culture of the area. I was against it when she first suggested it but she wore me down and I caved to the idea. We needed the break from the upcoming finals so it was a welcomed breath of fresh air. She was very ditsy if I'm honest and it felt like I was looking after a child who was let loose in the wild. I know it may seem a silly memory but It's something I treasure as she was so happy I came along.

EPR: Do you have any funny tales to tell about your time on the USS Elysium?

EL: Me and my ditsy friend are still in regular contact and one day she sent me a message telling me to try something called jerk chicken. I had no idea what I was in for when I ordered it for dinner. Let's just say I can't handle spicy well. Looking back at that very embarrassing moment in the mess hall it was actually quite funny and now I'm asking around the crew for something to get her back
