Mission: Season 5: Episode 2: Operation Save Humanity
Location: Garrett & Samantha's Quarters
Timeline: MD2 - 12h00
1292 words - 2.6 OF Standard Post Measure

Garrett sat on the sofa, he had fixed two glasses of wine. One for himself and one for Samantha who hadn't gotten home yet from her meeting with the former XO Gary Taylor. Garrett wanted to know how the meeting went and what was Taylor's reaction to the news Sam had for him? His going along with the plan was vital to it's success. So he sipped his wine and wished he had made a stronger drink. Well there was time, the night was still young.

The door opened and a shoe flew through it and hit the window, followed by a second and then Samantha walked in. "Gods 4 years barefoot and i can barely stand shoes for longer than an hour!" She said as the door slid shut. "That and I wanted to throw them at Gary Taylor!"

Garrett was up at her side in an instant. "Easy Samantha easy. Come on over here and sit down." He said taking her by the arm and guiding her to the sofa. Once she was seated he handed her a glass of wine. "Here have some of this." He suggested. "Now, what happened with Taylor? Didn't he believe you?"

"I don't know. He might have. He has a healthy dose of skepticism that's for sure." She took the wine. "I invited him and his wife to dinner tomorrow, as well and I have him the message Evelyn gave us to pass on. He is going to continue to play the sulking demoted officer but he is watching us carefully and basically threatened us if we double cross him."

Garrett smiled in admiration. "That's Taylor. He's taking it slow. Just like I would and you would Sam. I don't blame him for that. We just have to hope we can convince him we're on the up and up and make sure no tips their hand." He placed an arm around her. "You did good and with you in his department you can come and go without drawing any attention."

"Yeah remind me to thank Evelyn for that. I am sure Captain Carrington will just love to hear from me on him as well"

"Of course she will. She won't admit it but Taylor is a thorn in her side. A big one. She knows how the crew feels about him. Which is why he's still on the ship. She isn't stupid."

"I don't know. Comes to a new command and the first thing she does is shunt the now former XO to the worst posting she can find? Removes the Second officer from her role, and basically gloats about the fate of the former CO? Seems pretty stupid to me."

"No, your confusing stupidity with arrogance and that is the one thing Captain Carrington is....arrogant. Because she has the illusion she is in control."

"Oh that's a true statement." She sipped the wine. "He suggested the cabin is bugged."

"Valid point. Have you assured him, you checked for bugs constantly?" Garrett asked a smile on his face as he already knew the answer.

"oh yes. And I told him he does not scare me." She smiled and leaned into him. "I have seen the man's dark side Garrett, I am not scared of Gary Taylor."

Garrett hugged her close. "I don't think he wants you scared Sam. I've read his file. It's amazing. He was in a Romulan prison camp for three years and never broke, never told them anything. He's got ice water in his veins."

"Well we shall see if that ice water helps us or not." she paused. "Where is Gavin?"

"Don't underestimate Gary Taylor Samantha." Garrett warned. "As for Gavin, I don't know. e wasn't here when I came in. He's probably exploring the ship or looking for girls or both."

"Do you think it is wise for him to just roam the ship? There are a lot of angry people out there Garrett,"

"I think he will be fine Sam. We can't confine him to quarters or send him to his room. Nor can we send a security detail with every time he steps out of the cabin." Garrett pointed out. Our options are limited here Sam."

"I know. I know" She muttered. "Well at least this will give him a different perspective than his being on earth all the time."

"I hope so. I just don't want him to buy into all the stuff he might hear about me. That I'm a bastard." Garrett replied as he sipped his wine.

"Do you think he will buy into it?" She asked curiously. Sam leaned back and looked up at him "Garrett, you were a hardarse to this crew you know."

He gave a weary sigh. "I know Sam and that's what makes this so hard. I apologized to Lalor and I meant it. You were there. Now this. I'm sure they think I'm a bald face liar. and I don't blame them. I just hope they can forgive me when this is all over.""

"I am sure they will. And I do not think Lalor will allow them to hold a grudge."

"I hope you are right Sam. Time will tell. All we can do right now is play the cards we've been dealt and hope for the best. All while trying to keep this ship from tearing itself apart." Garrett answered soberly.

"Well tomorrow night, we will have the chance to bring the chief of Security onto our side as well." Sam sighed. "I will have to look up what type of food she likes."

"That's Lia Taylor right? You can look it up or just ask Gary. He's married to her and I'm sure he knows. Plus it gives you another chance to talk to him."

"Hmm true or I could ask the AI" She smiled.

"You could. It would certainly know. The decision is yours Sam. Whatever you think is the easiest and best way do it." Garrett answered as he kissed her cheek.

"So Gary Taylor, Lia Taylor, who else should I invite?"

"Good question." Garrett answered. "The CMO is a Gorn, we could invite him and what about the Chief Flight Control? She's got pink hair."

"What about the new Second officer?"

"Certainly. Get a chance to know her, she how she feels about this. She has no deep ties to Lalor." Garrett pointed out.

"Yes, so you told me before. Here is hoping we can get the senior staff onside and then stop any more issues before they begin. We just have to hold out until Lalor gets back."

"So I did. Sorry for repeating myself Sam. Just trying to have all the bases covered."

She laughed softly. "I know." she stretched up and kissed him lightly. "I will start on Dinner."

"Wonderful. What are you preparing?" He asked as Sam was a wonderful cook and wasn't afraid to experiment. Using him and Gavin as Guinea pigs.

"Hmm secret. Why don't you find our son and remind him that he has to be home for dinner." she sat up and stood.

"Better yet. Why don't I just contact him through his combadge?" Garrett replied with a grin.

"However you like. And tell him that if he is bringing anyone home he needs to tell me." Sam headed for the kitchenette.

"Yes ma'am." Garrett said with a grin as he tapped his combadge. "Gavin. It's Dad, time to come home. Dinner time and your mother said if your bringing anyone home you need to tell her."

"Hi Dad. On my way and not bringing anyone home for dinner at least not tonight." Gavin replied as he headed for the family quarters.

"I heard!" Sam called from the kitchen as she dug through cupboards.
