Brief Interview with Ms Elisha Pryce-Randal - onboard Ship Reporter
EPR: What is your role on the Elysium? And what does it entail?
Crpl Tonelly: Well, Ma'am, I am one of the scout snipers for the 62nd Marine Detachment, also known as the Spartans. As for what my job entails? Well, to be perfectly honest, I use my skills to kill any enemy combatant that tries to harm members of this fine crew.
EPR: What made you choose that line of work?
Crpl Tonelly: That's a good question. I guess to fully answer that question, I'd have to go back to Earth, circa 1980s. You see, I'm an El Aurian. The first time I visited Earth was in 1984. Back then, I was a part 9f an onvestigation team from my homeworld. My particular team was looking at the old nation of the United States of America. I was tasked with inserting myself into the culture and live like they did. I ended up enlisting in the United States Army. During my training, I decided to pick a MOS, or Mission Oriented Skill as they called it, that would give me the ability to see as much as possible. I decided to be a truck driver, or Motor Wheeled Operator.
EPR:How do you handle the pressure that comes with being a Starfleet officer?
Crpl Tonelly: shrugs I'm not an officer, Ma'am. I'm a Corporal in the Starfleet Marine Corps. The only pressure I have is to do my job to the best of my ability and ensure that no friendlies die while I'm on overwatch.
EPR: What would you say to a cadet aspiring to do what you do?
Crpl Tonelly: chuckles If a cadet is aspiring to do what I do, then they're already in the wrong line of work. Officers don't do what I do. They send me and others like me to where we need do do what we do best.
EPR: What is your favorite memory of your time at the academy?
Crpl Tonelly: shrugs and sighs, slightly annoyed Ma'am, as I've already said, I'm not an officer, thus, I've never been to the Academy. However, if you'd like to hear an elisted story, then, heh, I've some that would turn you hair white!
EPR: Do you have any funny tales to tell about your time on the USS Elysium?
Crpl Tonelly: sits back and thinks for a few beats Well, I guess one funny story that I could tell concerns my buddy, Pfc Ransom. So, Ransom was always going on, running his mouth about how good he is with any weapon that the Corps used. And, while he is a decent shot, he braggs a bit too much. So, a few of us got together and decided to put ol' Ransom through the paces, ya know, to finally shut his trap.
Well, we all go down to the range and have him strikea d3al that, if he wins in every duel, then he'd be allowed to keep bragging. But, If he failed, with even one weapon that the Corps used, then he'd have to go and clean every Marine's latrine on the entire ship, using only his toothbrush. smiles
So, we started with the big guns, Isometric disintegrators. He did better than average on the ship record. Next, the TR116, then the TR116a, all withing decent margins. He did regular rifles, phasers, balistic pistols, grenades, even k-bar fighting. Everything, while not the best. Was mostly better than average. Until we hot to the last challenge, that is.
Like I said, every weapon the Corps used, his words. So, as an El Aurian, and a veteran of the United States Military of the 1980's, I had one item that was just as deadly a weapon. Pulls out an old, black and silver ballpoint pen I told him that if he could beat me in tic tac toe, with this weapon, he'd win. I beat him three times in a row! chuckles Apparently, he never heard rhe old Earth adage, "The pen is mightier that the sword!"
