Leilani walked through the doors of Sickbay glad her leg was feeling better after her early morning spar, it somehow made her feel very intimidated being in Sickbay after the time she’d spent in one recuperating from her torture and rape. Taking a deep breath she offered a smile as she was greeted by a nurse, directed to a nearby biobed she stood waiting for whoever was going to appear to do her medical.

A whistling sound indicated the arrival of the chief MD as the big gorn looked over the to do list. Noting he had a new arrival he gave her the warmest smile he could as he walked over to her. " Hello there you mussst be Sssergent Charlesss. I'm doctor Sssthilg and i'll be your doctor for today." He said as friendly as he could.

“It’s nice to meet you Doctor” Leilani offered a smile. “I should warn you you’ll find my blood pressure sky high while I’m here, the reasons ... we’ll its all in my medical file.”

" I've read your file. Your lassst doctor sssent it over. If anything I do makesss you uncomfortable jussst sssay and it will end." he replied warmly as he indicated she lay down on the bio bed.

“I will, Thank you” Lani lay down on the biobed, this was all routine but it was just being inside a Sickbay after the amount of recovery time she’d had that made her nervous.

" I have to asssk have you had any injuriesss or illnessssss not on file sssince your last ssscan? " He inquired.

“Well I... did get myself a little battered and bruised sparring with Corporal Tonelly in the gym” Lani sighed she was disappointed in herself. “That and my shoulder, it took a phaser hit during my last outing in the field just before transfer here. It’s a little sore but sparring after an injury tends to do that.”

" Well, i'll take a look make sssure everythingsss okay. I hope the honeymoon was enjoyable," he said having noted her file and her wedding ring.

Leilani blushed, “It was err... very enjoyable, thank you. Actually on that note, I was going to ask for a contraceptive hypo but George and I have decided we’d like to start a family.”

" Congratulationsss my dear." The gorn said with a smile forming on his face. " Jussst let me take a scan and i'll........."

Despite the gorn's best efforts, his face dropped as he brought up the Sergents medical record. This was an unusual situation and he needed to think this through, but he had to be honest with her.

" Well, my dear i have sssome good and bad newsss." He said pulling up a stool so he could look at her from face level. " Which would you like firssst."

Lani’s heart sank, “I err... I guess the bad news, let’s get it out of the way.”

The gorn breathed in as he prepared to steady himself. This was always painful. " As you have been told damage you received from your attacker has ssseverely damaged your womb. I can tell from the ssscan resultsss you won't be able to bare a child to term asss it wouldn't be able to provide enough oxygen. I'm sssorry." He said at the end offering a hand in comfort.

Tears came to Leilani’s eyes as she held the comforting hand Sthilg was offering. “So that means... that I won’t be able to have children?” She wiped away tears as they ran down her cheeks. All she could think was how she would tell George.

" No my dear. In fact your in the most earliessst stages of pregnancy at thisss very moment." The gorn said giving her a gentle smile as he offered her a tissue. " Now we need to find a way of making sssure you and your husssband can have your baby and luckily your doctor is a creature who'sss been doing this sssince before captain Picard was born."

Leilani looked at the Gorn Doctor in surprise, “I’m sorry, did you just say that I’m... pregnant?” She looked wide eyed in surprise as she wiped her face dry. “You can tell that this soon!?” She smiled happily. “So what does this mean for our baby? If I can’t carry to term then how long can I carry?”

" Up until a month if we want to insssure the best chance of you having a happy and healthy baby. " the gorn replied. " Now that leaves us with two choicesss. You can look for a sssurrogate or we can use an artificial womb. "

“A month before the birth? Or a month into it?” Leilani looked at Sthilg obviously confused and concerned. “I ... don’t know anyone here yet, admitting there’d be time to find someone if necessary. How does an artificial womb work?”

" One month into it i'm afraid." The lizard said as he brought up a hologram with his hand. It looked like a miniature version of the survival cryo pods that were standard equipment for federation long-range exploration ships. " It'sss rather sssimple. We'll transfer the embryo into one of thessse which will sssimulate a womb until after the pregnancy period is over your baby can be born."

Lani’s heart sank, “There’s no way I can carry my baby? None at all?” She looked at Sthilg hoping by some miracle that he’d say something else could be done.

The gorn scratched his chin and licked his teeth slightly as he thought it through. " There may be sssome way though it is risky. We could transssfer the child to an artificial womb or sssurrogate while we grow you a replacement clone womb. If everything goesss well you ssshould be able to carry the child for the lassst period of the pregnancy, But I do warn you thisss would be risssky." he said honestly wanting to give this poor creature some hope.

Leilani nodded. “If a surgical option is possible then I’ll do it! I want to be able to carry my baby.”

The gorn nodded and offered her his hand again. " I'll need to run another ssscan for the cloning processssss and so we can ssset up the artificial womb to hold your baby if you can't find a sssurrogate. " He explained. “So what are the risks of the womb transplant?”

" Greatessst risssk isss of organ regection. Given we're cloning it it ssshould be minimalized, but i'll need to take a tissssssue sssample to get it cloned." The gorn explained.

Lani nodded. “You do whatever you need to do, will it have to wait until the baby is transferred from me?”

" Before we operate in the clone womb yesss, but i can perform a tissssssue extraction now. " If you'd like to lean back i'll jussst give you a sssmall painkiller." The doctor said as he stood up and begin spraying a sterilizer on his artificial arm.

Leilani nodded and lay back for Sthilg to do what he needed to do, he was her doctor now and she would trust his advice.

" Can you roll up your ssshirt, pleassse." The gorn said as he mothered one of his fingers into a tissue probe as his other hand gave her a hypospray with the other.

Leilani did as she was asked rolling up her shirt she braced herself for an uncomfortable sensation.

The gorns middle finger turned into a small scalpel which made an incision the size of a pen point before another one which had turned into a very thin wire-looking instrument were inserted. It took the gorn around thirty seconds to collect a tissue sample, cortarise the sample site and withdraw his appendage. " There we go all done." He said tapping the tip of his finger into a storage container.

Leilani smiled, she’d barely felt a thing thanks to Sthilg’s professional touch. “I’m guessing that’ll be a little sore when it comes round? Any special instructions?”

"No ssstrenuous exercissse for the next two daysss and light-duty work only. " He said using a regenerator to seal the small wound. " I'd alssso recommend sssome herbal tea. I'll also send you a document to help you through the firssst ssstages of pregnancy. "

Leilani nodded. “Thank you Doctor, I appreciate all your help.” She slowly moved to sit up and re-dress herself. That done she offered Sthilg a warm smile. “Thanks again Sthilg, I guess if not before I’ll see you again in just under four weeks.” She smiled briefly before heading on her way, she needed to talk to George.
