Jaeih had been wandering the ship and her feet had led her to the cabin of her one night stand. She knew they needed to talk. Events deemed they must, so she hit the chime, and waited.
Wynter had just finished a run after his shift and was in the shower, when the chime sounded. He tapped a spot on the shower wall, and said. "Come in. I will just be a minute." As he finished.
Jaeih entered and stood rather awkwardly in his living area.
Wynter emerged a moment or two later in a pair of shorts with a towel on his shoulders. "Jaeih." He said and stopped. "Please make yourself at home. Can I get you a drink?"
She shook her head. "No thank you." She replied softly. "We need to talk Wynter."
"Alright.." he said as he moved to sit on the couch. "What is it that's on your mind?"
Sitting opposite him she folded her hands in her lap. "The last few days is on my mind. What we saw... learned on that planet..."
Wynter sighed and his shoulders slumped for the briefest of moments before returning to normal. "Alright what exactly is bothering you? Was it the whole situation, our dopplegangers relationship? Your dopplegangers being..." he sighed there was no good way to say it. "Well I guess in essence barefoot and pregnant after having four kids, or something else." He frowned as he said barefoot and pregnant, he meant no disrespect just he didn't have an elegant way of putting it at the time.
She rolled her eyes. "while that is a shock, I am talking about the fact that they are together and ... my counterpart, stated she knew what your counterpart was feeling most of the time... i am not telepathic or an empath..."
He leaned forward and took her hand. "I have been mulling that over. It is possible that you have the ability just can't access it without training. It may have happened during our first night together I could have unconsciously reached out with my mind and linked us. So you can feel or perhaps even hear what I am thinking etc. There is a small problem with this though."
"Let me guess, its permenant." Jaeih quipped. "yeah the other me filled me in on it."
Wynter shrugged. "Honestly I don't know if it is permanent or can be undone. I do know that well this could cause issues if we separated."
Jaeih nodded. "Something they never had to face." She shrugged. "How do we know if it is the same for us?"
He leaned forward slowly. "Time will tell, you could also try to relax, and reach out slowly, see what you feel."
"Why would you want to Wynter? I am not exactly the best option around you know,"
He smiled. "Perhaps, or you could simply be the best option for me. So for once stop doubting yourself and feel, see what is there when you try to reach out. Finding me should be easy if the link is there it isn't as if you are trying to read the captain or well anyone else."
Jaeih frowned at him. "I am not her. And you are not him. Not really you know."
Wynter shrugged. "I know, we are us. All I am saying is try let's see if we have a connection or not."
Considering it for a moment she inclinded her head. "So... how?"
He smiled briefly. “Reach out with your mind try to feel any little tendrils. I would think that if we are connected the tendril connecting us would be well front and center perhaps even pulsing a bit."
mind reach out. She felt... something... and sent a thought towards it.
Wynter smiled. “That's it.” he paused for a moment. “So anything?”
“I.. I think so.” she said softly.
He chuckled softly. “So try to tell me something you feel?”
She frowned. “Amusement” she said her eyes opening and shooting him a glower.
“Not exactly something you need to read my mind for. Anything else?” he asked gently.
“Curiosity about this...” Jaeih concentrated. “And... contentment.”
Wynter smiled. “Good job so far. It will get easier.”
"Will it?" She asked curiously.
He smiled. "Yes it gets easier with some practice."
"Ah."She said softly. "Practice huh." She shrugged. "So, now that we know that we have this link... what happens next?"
Wynter shrugged. "Shore leave, a jacuzzi, elopement?" He teased. "No it all depends on how you feel."
She gave a short laugh at that. "Elopment? My father and mother would have something to say about that, not to mention my brother." She smiled at him. "How about we do what normal people do? Date each other."
Wynter nodded slowly. "So dinner?"
"Sounds like a plan. On DS9?"
"Alright, so tonight on DS9. Where would you like to have dinner?" He asked.
Jaeih stood and leaned down to brush her lips against his. "Surprise me" she challenged.
Wynter leaned back. "Alright."
"Pick me up at 7, from my cabin on DS9" She smirked at him and headed for the door.
