Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Sickbay

ON:

Walking into sickbay, Kaylee was holding her left arm in her hand. Her forearm had been burned by a plasma discharge from a relay she had been working on. Normally she would treat this kind of thing by herself, however she had yet to gather her own medical kit for this assignment, so her only option was to head to sickbay to get treated. Stopping just inside the doors, Kaylee waited for someone to help her.

The sound that the medical staff all knew was the chief MD could be heard as he rounded the corner. His white eyes were imminently fixed on Kaylee who he was quickly at his side. " Plasssma dissscharge?" He inquired as he looked at her burnt arm. " Follow me and we can get you sssorted out. Oh i'm Sssthilg by the way." He added.

Kaylee stood there for a moment with a surprised look on her face before her brain clicked in again, "um, yes, plasma discharge. Also, I believe I need to do my transfer medical if you have time" she said, following Sthilg into sickbay. "Oh and my name is Kaywin-Li Fray"

" Nice to meet you Kaywin-Li Fray. I'm chief MD Sthilg and this is my humble abode. " He said with a grin as he opened the door into one of the rooms. " Take a ssseat and I'll ssstart getting that arm fixed. Do you have any know allergiesss before we begin? " He inquired bringing up his wrist computer.

"not that I know of. I mean I don't react well to anesthizine but it's never been a problem" Kaylee answered, moving over to an empty biobed, "if I may, what made you consider being a doctor?"

" A very long ssstory. I ssstarted out with my coloniesss healer after my lack of ssskillsss in other areasss. I was rather good at it until the USS Capetown crassshed on the planet. It wasssn't until we picked up and carried the sssurvivorsss back to our home that we realized the crassshed ship had unearthed a virusss long buried on the planet. I'll ssspare you the details of what it did, but it went through the colony and the sssurvivorsss like wildfire. With the healer dead me and the Capetownsss doctor had to hike back up to the carsssh sssite to use the Capetown'sss medical facultiesss. We managed to sssucceed and came up with a cure and were able to sssave most of the remaining sssurvivoursss. " The gorn said as he loaded up a hypospray.

" When the fedration sssent a rescue ssship the doctor left me his medical almanac. I left the colony sssoon after wouldsss. I've been travling around as a doctor for the rest of my four hundred years." He said as he injected the hybrid. " There that should help with the pain. What about you why did you decide to become a damage control ssspecialist?" he inquired

“I’m not sure” Kaylee replied, feeling the pain start to subside, “I guess mechanical things have always been simple to me. They speak to me on a level I guess most people don’t understand.....hmm” she continued before a smile came to her face. “It makes me sound crazy doesn’t it, talking to machines, saying it out loud does sound a little odd”

" You ssshould sssee how often klingon engineersss talk to the warbirdsss. Alssso it'sss not like i don't talk to the coffee machine. " the gorn replied with a grin.

Kaylee shook her head, “it’s not just talking though, I almost treat them like they’re children. Take the warp core for example, she likes her intermix ratio a little richer than most other cores which put a slight strain on other systems”

" You're worried about the ssship. A valuable commodity in any engineer. " The gorn said as he picked up another tool and began to get to work on the plasma damage.

"Of course I do, she's now my home and if I don't take care of her she'll fall apart" Kaylee explained as she rubbed her hand along the egde of the biobed. "If you take care of your ship, she will always see you home"

" Indeed. " the gorn said as his skilled hand got to work dealing with the plasma damage. It wasn't long before the majority of it was gone. " Feeling better? " he asked as he continued his work.

Kaylee nodded, "yes thank you. you're very good" she said, watching as the injuries continue to disappear under the good doctor's care.

" Well that about does it." the gorn said as he finished. " can you move your hand?"

opening and closing her fist, Kaylee gave her wrist a roll before giving Sthilg a smile, "it would seem so, thank you Doctor. hopefully I won't need to set up regular appointments during normal maintenance cycles. is there anything else you need? any mechanical problems that need fixing here?"

" Two of the cryo podsss filtration unitsss need replacing. It'sss on engeenrings to do lissst." The gorn added as he jotted down the results on a padd.

Kaylee nodded, “I’ll make sure that it is on the list” she said, hopping down from the biobed, “well, I better get going. There’s always more to do”

" Take care." the gorn doctor said as he began to clean his tools.

Kaylee smiled, “you too doctor lizard” she said with a smile as she walked out of sickbay, stopping for a moment at the door to remember which way to go.
