Medical Check Up

It took Yasmine forcing herself to medical. She had no issue with the CMO, it was doctors she had an issue with of late. She knew it was not their fault that Marie-Rose had died. Genetic illness was not always curable. But she still hated going to medical. She entered the Medical Bay and paused just inside the door.

" No no no we'll need to move it a little to the left. " Boomed the voice of the cheif MD as he helped the ship's Exocom nurse move the charging station he'd need for his new body that he was working on.

Hearing the door opening the gorn gave a polite smile to the new captain. He was doing a good job, but this whole mess still felt fishy and wrong to him. " Ah captain how are you thisss fine day." he said politly.

Yasmine gave the doctor a smile. "I am well. Are you busy? Because if you are I can come back another time."

" No, we're rather quiet at the moment. Mossst of the team is building the temporary medical facilitiesss. Your here for your medical checkup arent you?" He guessed.

"Yes." Yasmine replied. "I am sorry it took so long, I also have to make my time to get to counseling."

" Well if you'll jussst follow me we can get you ssseen to. Have you had any injuriesss or illnesssss not on file?" The doctor inquired as he lead the way to one of the biobeds allowing the floating robot to finish off his installation.

"No, My file is up to date." Yasmine replied as she followed him to the bio beds. She paused and noted the excomp. She had heard about the crew member. She turned her attention back to the CMO.

" Well let'sss get you ssseen to." the gorn said as he patted one of the beds ass he headed for the computer screen.

She climbed up onto the bio bed and laid back. She knew the drill. Yasmine had been through it all before.

" Ssso how are you finding the ssship." The gorn inquired as the scan got underway.

"Its a very nice vessel. I can see why it is such a sought after posting. The crew are fine."

" We've been through a lot. I'm lucky to be her chief medical doctor." The gorn said patting the console as if the Elysium could hear him.

"And you never have issues with the crew skipping medical exams?" Yasmine asked curiously

" Only a few and rather recently. Can't sssay i blame them. i won't blame them after the recent incident. All of them are attending counseling sssessssssionsss to deal with it." the gorn replied calmly.

"you are speaking about the Mirror Universe incident." Yasmine clarified. "I have read the reports."

The gorn nooded. " I won't force any crew who were violated by that thing wearing my face to undergo a medical checkup from me. "

Yasmine nodded. "And I am sure, they know logically it was not you Doctor. That universe is not paradise and I understand the whole crew was traumatised."

The doctor nodded slightly." I know. My broken jaw ssseemsss insssignificant compared to what sssome were put through."

Yasmine looked at him. "Doctor, I am sure you have trauma they did not see. Just as they have the same. Not everyone was injured in that event physically."

" Which i sssee the ssshipsss wonderful counseling department to help me deal with it. I'm an old lizard and i know the regualtionsss. Here'sss hoping are human colonissstsss have mellowed during their isssolation." the old doctor replied.

"Highly unlikely. History often shows that isolation stagnates rather than invigorates cultures." Yasmine sighed. "Its not going to be a fun mission."

" Indeed it'sss likely not going to be a fun one. ANy idea what your going to tell them?" The old gorn inquired.

"I considered playing along but we have too many hybrids and different races on the Elysium to make that a viable thing. Its not like we are the Imperial Empire from the Mirror universe. So, I am going to go with the truth."

" Well just save me a recording of the conversation when they see me. I get enough terrified looks from new crewmembers and they know what a gorn is." The old doctor added.

She smiled at that. "You could come along. Join the away team."

" No thank you i have to organissse the hossspital. I'm sssure John can do the job of away team medical officer." The gorn said looking over at the robot who was installing his new body's charging station.

She smirked. "An ExoComp, that is going to make their day."

" He would indeed." The gorn said as the scan ended. " Well everything'sss looking fine here. I sssee no reason to not clear you fit for duty."

Yasmine sat up. "Thank you doctor." She brightly.

" One lassst thing. " The gorn said as he pulled up a stool. " I hate to pry, but i have to asssk. Your file mentioned your pregnancy and lossssss of child. Are you holding up." He asked gently.

"I am going well. I went to counselling, as did my partner. Its nearly 2 years. Every day is a new day,."

" Well if you want to talk all alwaysss be available to lisssten. " He replied reassuringly.

Yasmine smiled."Thank you Doctor, I will definitely keep that in mind."

" If you need me for anything feel free to call." The gorn called after her as he walked back into his office. That felt wrong. As much as he had treated her like any other officer he missed the ship's real captain. Letting out a sigh he fell into a chair and got into some paperwork.
