ON

Imik sat in her cabin meditating, when quite suddenly her computer chirped. Opening her eye's she glanced at the machine and noted the communications light flashing, her mind focused and she rose making her way to answer.

"Sinkahue S'Niohun, it is my pleasure to inform you that your own command will be waiting for you once you return to Star Base 85. We will send a shuttle to intercept the Federation vessel you are traveling on". Tanhuekuk (Admiral) Magus Y'Taouhn gave a warm smile as he spoke, the news he gave to Imik was good news or so he hoped.

Imik stood almost open mouthed, "Tanhuekuk Y'Taouhn, blessings upon your house. But please inform me again of what command you speak of".

Magus continued to smile, "You have been promoted, and given a small patrol vessel. You will be stationed at a place called Deep Space Nine, in the Bajoran sector".

"I have no Command experience, so I fail to see why this duty is being given to me" Imik held her gaze down in respect, but her confusion on why she had been given command of a patrol ship bothered her.

Y'Taouhn stopped smiling, "Are you refusing to take command?"

The Consul shook her head, "No Tanhuekuk, I only wish to clarify my inability in the command role. I live to serve the Ojnas Republic, and will obey your order".

Magus now nodded, "You have been chosen because you have knowledge of the Humans, and this space station you are assigned to is run by Star Fleet. Plus you have experience as a Diplomatic Officer, and that to will be needed".

Imik now nodded her head, "Can I enquire as to when the shuttle is due to arrive?"

Magus simply pointed to his desk, "Star Fleet has informed us that we must wait until you clear the star system where you are, as the planet you now orbit is a war like population. Thus you will inform me as to when it is safe to send the shuttle".

She looked out of her window, "I understand and will comply with your orders Tanhuekuk, I will inform the Command Staff of this vessel at once". Imik bowed to Magus, "By your leave Y'Taouhn".

Tanhuekuk Y'Taouhn simply bowed back and closed the channel, Imik stood looking at the screen. Her mind was confused, she wasn't ready for a Command and she knew something else must be behind the sudden change. Her supervisor Commander Taylor would be best to talk to first, "Computer, locate Commander Taylor". =^="Commander Taylor is not aboard Elysium, he is part of the away team"=^=.

That made things difficult, who else could she talk to? Alicia perhaps, but then no as she was with child and soon to give birth. Burdening her with this could injure the youngling, but her husband Savar now he may listen and be of assistance.

"S'Niohun to Commander Savar, may I visit and speak with you?"

Savar was in the counseling office, signing off on crew cases, making the required notes on those that needed follow up sessions when a call came through his combadge. it was the Onjas Imik. "Indeed you may. I am in the counseling office and await your arrival."

Making her way to Savar's office, Imik attempted to sort out her thoughts. Just how could she get his response to her posting, when he was a Vulcan and one who hid hid emotions extremely well. Arriving at the office Imik rang the chime, and waited to be called in.

Inside Savar heard the chime sound, he stood and called out "Enter" as he awaited his visitor to enter, his mind engaged several reasons for Imik to see him. She had a question or a concern was obvious but about what? It could not be a ship or Starfleet concern as she could get and answer from either Avalon or the main computer. So, it must be of a personal nature. Satisfied he was on the right course, he waited for Imik to voice the her reason for seeing him.

Upon entering, Imik stopped and bowed. "Blessings upon your house Commander, and health to your youngling", she then made her way to Savar's desk. "I wish to ask your opinion on promotion and transfer, both of which I have just been informed I am being granted".

"Thank you Consul. Peace and long life to you. Please have a seat. How may i be of assistance to you in regards to your promotion and transfer?" He inquired politely.

Imik glanced at the floor, "I am not ready for Command, nor do I feel it is time for me to leave this vessel. But my Tanhuekuk has issued the order, and I am honoured bound to obey". She shifted on her feet, "The only light at this time is this very mission being carried out right now, I can not be removed as long we orbit or remain within this system". Imik now looked at Savar, "How would you resolve this problem?"

" I see an intriguing problem. Before we continue, would you care for something to drink?" Savar asked his guest.

"No thank you, but please indulge yourself if you so wish", Imik answered as she shook her head.

"No, I do not require refreshment at this time." Savar answered then got to the reason for Imik's visit. "You say you have been informed of your impending promotion and transfer but you do not feel ready. Have you voiced your reasons to your superior? Made them aware of your hesitancy to accept promotion and transfer."

Imik Simply look at Savar with a, 'Did you really ask that?' Look. "I have mentioned to my Tanhuekuk my reluctance to assume Command, but an Ojnas must obey their orders. And I have been ordered to DS9 and a small patrol ship, after stopping at Star Base 85". She again shifted her feet, "I need to find a way of convincing Commander Taylor to ask my Tanhuekuk for me to remain here. It is the only way I can remain, do not the Vulcans have similar demands on their people?"

"I see." Savar replied as he considered Imik's situation. "Vulcans do not make demands on other Vulcans." He replied simply. "I see no problem with you talking to Commander Taylor and him talking to your Tanhuekuk and having you remain aboard the Elysium. Commander Taylor can explain to your superior that you are needed here to assist him in Diplomatic Department as well as having you continue your education in such. That to leave now is ill advised. Also if your superior wants the best officer to represent the Onjas Republic you must stay to continue your education."

The female Ojnas nodded, "Could you assist in this request? In a professional way, as I would feel as if I am disobeying a direct order". Imik looked at the floor, a submitting stance to show her need.

"I would be more than pleased to help you Consul." Savar answered politely. Do you wish me to contact your Tanhuekuk directly or by the more formal process of sending a message via subspace?"

"I would think a more formal approach would be the best way to talk to Tanhuekuk Y'Taouhn, he is very traditional in his outlook". She now looked at Savar, "As Commander Taylor is on an away mission, how do you suggest we proceed with informing him?" She knew she needed Taylor onside, but his new duties seemed to keep him overly busy. Imik hadn't seen nor talked with him since the new Captain had come aboard, in fact she hadn't been introduced to the new Command Staff. Something she considered an insult to the Ojnas people, but her culture forbad her approaching the new Captain unless that Captain asked her to approach.

"I will craft a formal reply to your superior and state that your education into Federation Diplomacy along with learning and how and when to apply Federation law is still on going and it would be unwise to remove you from your assignment here. In addition I will also state that as he wants the best possible officer to represent the Onjas Republic it is also imperative you remain here aboard the Elysium to continue your learning."

With her mind now in confusion, Imik simply stood waiting. She hadn't refused her promotion or the new command, but she knew she wasn't ready for them. And now a Vulcan would explain why the Federation wanted her to remain on the Elysium, it all seemed a little to weird to be true. "Am I doing the right thing Commander? Or am I guilty of cowardice towards my duty?"

Savar looked at her, his answer was swift in coming. "Indeed you are not. You are instead showing remarkable clear headedness and maturity in this matter. You have not refused promotion merely delayed it indefinitely. You have demonstrated to your superior the type of thinking all commanding officers want in their officers. " He paused for a beat and continued, "You are no coward Imik S'Niohun. You are showing courage of the highest degree and your superior should recognize that."

Bowing to Savar, Imik gave an embarrassed smile. "Logic and sense does not always walk hand in hand Commander, my Tanhuekuk is very traditional. Which is another reason I find this confusing, he disapproved of my service during the Tholian war. It appears I am not Ojnas in his eye's, he has called me a Chohai. That means a male type female, unworthy of any respect".

"Perhaps you are correct Consul. However in this case they do. Perhaps given his past comments to you, he is hoping to see you fail if you accept this promotion at this time." Savar proposed. "And in your failure he has in his mind justified his opinion of you along with removing a thorn from his side."

Nodding, Imik now glanced at Savar. "So this maybe his way of removing me completely from the Ojnas military, such a course of action is unheard of in our society. Those within his link would surely know of his intentions, unless he has their support". She now moved closer to Savar, "If your proposal is correct Commander, what would you suggest my reaction should be?"

"Your options are limited Imik. You can go to him with your accusation which he will undoubtedly deny or you can bypass him and go to his direct supervisor with your belief and let them look into the matter."

Imik shook her head, "The only recourse I have would be an appeal to the Grand Council, but if they have listened to Tanhuekuk Y'Taouhn even that avenue could be fruitless". She moved slightly and then glanced at the floor, "If only our true Sinkahue was still in Command, and not our new Sinkahue".

"Do not despair Imik. I will write this Tanhuekuk a formal letter saying at this time it is unwise to remove you from your assignment here as you still have much to learn in regards to Federation law and diplomacy. I will further state that should he attempt to remove you I will object most strenuously to your Grand Council as well as Starfleet Command and if need be the Federation Council." Savar informed her.

Bowing again, Imik now looked directly at Savar. "I must return to my quarters to make ready to depart on an away team. I will await your response to the correspondence, blessings on your house Commander". She waited for Savar to answer before departing.

Savar gave a return nod of respect to the female Onjas. "Very well Consul, I will not keep you waiting long. I will have my letter transcribed and ready for delivery shortly. "Live long and prosper." He replied giving her the Vulcan salute.

Raising her hand Imik replied, "Peace and long life Commander". She turned to leave and wondered if anything would really happen, could this Federation keep her here? She had read of Sachzny's fight to remain both Ojnas and Federation citizen, had she now herself become like Sachzny? Imik stopped and turned back to Savar, "Have you heard of Sachzny P'Glosho Commander? She to found herself in a similar situation, it very nearly ended badly for her. I never thought I would find myself reliving her life, thank you for your assistance".

Savar nodded his head fractionally before looking at Imik. "It might surprise you Consul that I have heard of Sachzny. I have read Commander Grayson's extensive report and I know of his close friendship and his admiration for Sachzny. I also know of his deep sorrow at her being recalled to your republic. He considers her a most remarkable woman." Savar paused and looked directly into Imik's eyes. "May I say, I think you also are a most remarkable female."

Imik dipped her head in embarressment, "You do me a great honour Commander, but I fear I am indeed most unremarkable". She gave Savar another bow and left for her cabin, his words still rang in her ears. Why would a Vulcan think her remarkable? Why would anyone think that?
