Yasmine sat on the couch in the massive commanding officer’s cabin. It was huge. At first she thought it had been Lalor who had made it so, but after investigating found that Lalor had done no structural work to it, and it had been Sharr. There were too many bedrooms and the office on the lower deck was huge but so was the massive living and dinning area and the full kitchen.
The living room was so large there were several couches. And so she had tried to ignore it. And now sat on the couch waiting for James to call. He had not called her since she had gotten the orders. She looked down at the ring on her left hand and sighed. Since their daughter had passed away, she knew things had changed, did she think he was cheating on her? Yeah most likely. Hell the only reason she had taken this assignment was because he told her it was good for them. More so after being passed over the 2 years before.
And how she could show the fleet how good a captain she could be. And then nothing but silence. She kept it to herself because she wanted no ones sympathy. She knew that some would see it as her just deserts but she had been with James for four years. She knew how he was. Yeah, she knew. She was not his first girlfriend but she thought maybe that they had, had something.
Her comm pinged and she got up and checked, No. nothing from James. No messages, no call. Just a crew update. Sighing she turned and headed for the stairs, She called out “Lights” and the lights in the cabin dimmed. Yasmine wrapped her arms around herself and walked up the stairs. Carter had warned her about James, and Mathew had said that he felt that James had not been that concerned when their daughter had passed away, which had been wrong, Marie-Rose had been loved by James, and loved by Yasmine.
Once inside the master suite she sighed and sat on the bed. Federation issue beds were basic. She had, heard that Lalor had put a four poster in the room. It was a thought. And it would make it more comfortable for her. And allowed her to keep her mind off of things. After a while she stood again and moved into the en-suite. She needed to shower before bed. Stripping off she stepped into the shower and took her time thinking under the water that poured down on her back.
After she had showered and dressed she slipped into her bed and checked her messages one last time before turning out the lights. She refused to send a message to James, she refused. She pulled the engagement ring off her finger and placed it on the bedside table. Tomorrow, there was always tomorrow, he was probably busy, as was she. She just had to be patient. Patient and understanding. After all, he was a captain like she was now and he was busy. So thinking she curled up under the blankets and closed her eyes. Sleep claimed her a short time later.
