Mission: Season 5: Episode 3: CAPETOWN
Location: USS Elysium, Marine County, CO's Office
Timeline: MD 3 / 0900 hours
1155 words - 2.3 OF Standard Post Measure

After spending the last day of his leave reunitong with his brother, and meeting the beautiful Samaire, Liam was in his dress uniform, complete with awards and decorations, standing outside his new commander's office. He had sent her a communique the day before, indicating that he would be reporting in this morning.

Reaching up, he pressed the door chime. He then waited to be granted admission.

"So they actually promoted you?" Naxea questioned her long time friend, Gunnery Sergeant Gami.

Gami laughed, with her arms crossed. "Yeah, can't wait until the detachment begins a pool to see how long before I get busted again.

Naxea grinned. "Too late. I already have you down for three months."

"Three months, Boss? I'm genuinely hurt," Gami teased, mocking a hurt expression.

Hearing the door chime, Naxea looked towards her door. "Enter," she called out.

The doors slid apart and Liam marched in smartly, stopping three paces in front of and centered on Naxea's desk. After snapping to attention and offering a sharp salute, he said, "Good morning, Ma'am. Sergeant Liam Reece, reporting for duty." Lowering his salute, he stepped forward, handing over a small PADD. "My transfer orders, Ma'am." He then stepped back and resumed the position of attention.

Standing, she received his orders after returning his salute. "At ease Sergeant. Have a seat," she gestured to a nearby chair.

"Thank you, Ma'am," Liam replied respectfully as he sat down on the offered chair

Gami grinned at the new arrival. "That's my que, I guess. I'll be in the hand to hand combat room if you need me, Boss."

Naxea nodded, watching her friend turn and leave the office before looking back at his records that he had handed to her. "So...you're Captain Reece's son?"

Liam laughed out loud before he could stop himself. Blushing heavily, he cleared his throat. "Apologies, Ma'am. You surprised me there. And, to answer your question, no. Kyle is not my father. He's my big brother. He's only two years older than I am."

"I see...I apologize," she grinned before checking her computer. The grin soon turned into a frown. "Odd...I was just verifying your orders, Sergeant, and it appears that comms with Camp Falkirk is down for some reason."

Liam nodded. "Yes, Ma'am. Kyle told me that last night when I arrived. Said I, and everyone else from Falkirk is listed as M.I.A. Third Fleet is on its way to investigate the situation. Apparently, the whole planet went dark about six days ago. Thankfully, for me, I've been on leave, the last two weeks, and just just arrived on the Elysium last night." He frowned as he continued. "I apologize for not checking in right away, because of the situation. I was...distracted, by family issues."

"Well obviously you're not MIA," Naxea replied, sighing. "I'll have to document the change to Starfleet Marine HQ once you check in with medical and get a full checkup just to confirm you are who you say you are." It wasn't until the Dominion War came about when the medical clearance amendment was enforced to ensure Starfleet Personnel weren't a changeling or clone. "As for your family issues, is everything ok?"

Liam nodded, understanding the need to be careful. "Yes, Ma'am. I'll head straight to medical after we are done here. Do you want my to use our medic here in Marine County, or go topside to the main Sickbay?" Before Naxea could reply, he answered her question first. "Everything is fine, Ma'am. I just hadn't seen my brother, in the flesh, in five years." He then blushed slightly. "I..uh...then helped Ensign McBride find her rebel niece, who had cut out from her elementary class."

Naxea studied the man for a moment before replying, guaging his response about helping Ensign McBride. 'Please don't get her pregnant,' she thought. Starfleet Marines often operated on the principle, if you can't kill it, then fuck it. "Go to medical. You have to be cleared by a medical doctor, not a combat medic."

Liam replied respectfully. "Yes, Ma'am." He paused, before asking, "Forgive me, Ma'am, did you mean now?"

"No, it can wait until after our meeting," she said. "So I see you're a combat engineer by trade. Good, we're always in need of those. Do you have questions regarding your new assignment?"

Liam tbought for a second, then replied, "I think just which platoon and squad l'll be joining, Ma'am."

"Since you're a Reece and we're in need of a combat engineer, I'm placing you with our Special Forces Platoon, which is First Platoon, First Squad," she replied after tapping a few commands into her terminal.

Liam sat a little straighter in his seat. "Understood, Ma'am. I won’t let you down, Colonel." He paused a beat, then asked, "Will I be a squad leader or assistant?" He didn't want to step on anyone's toes who was already in the position.

"I'm making you a squad leader. Your platoon sergeant is Gunnery Sergeant Luxa Gami, the woman that was present when you entered," she explained. "Once you get settled in, draw your issued gear from the Armory and get your locker organized. Report for PT tomorrow at 0600. Do you have any other questions?"

Liam thought for a few beats, then shook his head. "Not that I can think of at the moment, Ma'am. Aside from, is there anything I should know about the current mission of the ship?"

"We're currently en route to Gorn Space to investigate a distress call from the USS Capetown that crashed a couple decades ago. The crew were rescued but the reason for the distress call is a mystery," she explained.

Liam frowned slightly. "Do we know why the Capetown wasn't salvaged when the survivors were rescued and returned home?"

"Because the Gorn claimed salvage rights to the ship. From what I understand, there was little of use after the ship crashed, not to mention that the planet it crashed on was also placed on quarantine." she explained.

Liam nodded in understanding. "So, we're basically going for the mystery." He smirked playfully, "And here I thought we'd have a bug hunt." He chuckled softly, then corrected himself. "SORRY, Ma'am." He blushed slightly, but the grin didn't fully leave his face.

Grinning, Naxea nodded. "No need to be sorry. Just be ready because distress beacons don't activate by themselves, especially after a few decades."

Liam nodded as he replied. "Yes, Ma'am. I'll make sure my people are ready to go if and when the balloon goes up."

"Do you have anything else?" she asked. "If not, then report to Sickbay and get cleared."

As he didn't, Liam nodded and stood. After snapping to attention, he raised his hand and saluted his new commanding officer.

Naxea stood and returned the salute before watching Sergeant Reece about face and exit her office. She had a good feeling about him.
