Gary was in his office in Lia and his quarters. He was still trying to make sense of the whole Phoenix situation. he didn't buy for one minute Phoenix was guilty of treason or that she was being held at the penal colony at New Zealand or any secret location. it was too contrived and the fact that there was absolutely no information other than rumors drove that idea home even more.
He had been restored to Executive Officer with Lovejoy being promoted to Captain. Gary had to admit Garrett had surprised hi, he wasn't the stiff, humorless officer he had been on his previous visits to the Elysium. He seemed fair, with a decent sense of humor and he wanted to learn. Perhaps there was hope for him. Now however he had to get ready for an away mission to investigate a Federation distress signal coming from a Gorn planet where no distress signal should be coming from. All of which meant his investigation into Phoenix's disappearance would have to wait for the time being. It frustrated him not knowing what the real situation was as well as being unable to get answers. He was chasing shadows and he didn't like it one damn bit.
Thankfully he had Lia to talk to and bounce ideas and different theories off her. She would listen and then give her opinion. Sometimes she agreed, other times she just told him he was daft. However she was always there for him, always supportive of him even when he had been for a short time Chief Diplomatic Officer. She knew how the transfer stuck in his craw and she listened quietly as he vented to her and when he had finished she had hugged him tightly and kissed him, saying "I love you and it will be alright."
Lia had no idea how much her support and faith in him meant to him. He didn't feel alone he had someone who understood his anger and frustration.
He leaned back in his chair and addressed the computer. "Computer play Wind Beneath My Wings and play for Lia when she comes home." An instant later the song filled the room and it's telling and revealing lyrics meant even more in this difficult time.
Oh, oh, oh, oh
It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that's your way
You always walked a step behind
So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know, I know the truth, of course I know it
I would be nothing without you
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings
Oh, the wind beneath my wings
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly away, you let me fly so high
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, so high against the sky
So high I almost touch the sky
Thank you, thank you
Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings
