Myne did not know how she got to sickbay. All she knew was that Sudra kept talking and annoying her and she kept telling to just shut up already. Seriously, how annoying could he be? Was he always this annoying when he was her teacher or did she not notice it back then?
"Sudra, please... just leave me alone already! I am sorry I summoned you!" Myne mumbled and tried to look around confused. "Rin? Rin are you here?" She called out to her friend, hoping to have her distract her mind right now from her temporary companion.
"I'm here, but I need to step aside to let the doctors do their work," Rin said from a few feet away.
"Okay... it was fun at least, right?" Myne tried to chuckle coming more to her senses but not really enjoying the pain at all.
Olivia moved to her patient and pulled out the tricorder to start getting a few readings on her patient. "Someone want to tell me what happened here?" Olivia asked.
"I was teaching her meditation techniques," Rin explained. "She has a complicated relationship with some of her previous hosts. I thought it might help. One of them took over and attacked me from behind. I defended myself, and I feared the personality might harm her if I didn't keep him distracted and subdued. Unfortunately, that required violence. He made it clear he had nothing to lose. He also wasn't very bright."
"Yeah, it was... my fault. Should have known better. Rin helped... keep me contained." Myne replied meekly while trying to give Rin a brave look. As well as a thank you nod at least. "Vede coming out was... fortunate though. It could have been worse."
"Unless I greatly misunderstand something of Trill, this was in no way Myne's fault," Rin reported. "Although I am curious how such a person as Vede was chosen as a host in the first place, and why it was considered safe to further join this symbiont after Vede's death."
Rin touched one hand to her forehead as she felt something trickle down. A growing lump there was bleeding slightly. "I am apparently also in need of minor medical attention."
"It is not... like that Rin. Vede was a good... man once. A brilliant engineer." Myne replied to the first question, but not the second. "Are you hurt badly?" She asked Rin in a worried tone.
"No, just a bit of bruising."
Olivia continued to check over her patient and do what was needed each time to patch her up while she was listening to what was being said. "Something like this normally doesn't happen now," Olivia replied. "It used to long time ago before our people new better. Now there is screenings for the host to go through before they can be considered for joining. Plus, depending on the issue and it is rare, then the symbiont will be allowed to die with the host. Also, in the rare case, if a host gets through that is later to find out is not a good fit, then when it comes time for the symbiont to be moved ot a new host, the previous host memories are blocked so to speak as though they weren't there."
"Is there anything you can do for her now?" Rin asked quietly.
Olivia thought for a moment before replying. "There is a possible option that could be done," Olivia replied, "but it would require a couple of things before even being considered. One thing that would have to be done is contacting the Trill Commission in order for this particular Ritual to be performed and the other item that would be required is if my patient trusted certain friends of hers handle the other portion of the ritual."
Myne began to look panicked at Olivia, remembering she is also a Trill. In her daze that little detail had avoided coming to the forefront of her mind. "What? No no no no!! I am a good host for Redal, just working out the kinks that is all. And Redal is a good symbiont, no need to let him die with me." Her tone was panicked, mega hugely panicked but she was working to keep it under control while shooting Rin some really scared looks. Well, more like 'please save me' looks while glancing fearfully at the doctor.
"Zhian'tara is not a solution. I don't have enough friends for it and last time I tried back on Trill it didn't end well. The Guardian recommended that I not try it again. Sooo, can we just drop the subject? It was just a fluke! I am feeling alright, I really need to get to my cabin, I have a shift in a few hours." By now Myne was seriously considering trying to make a run for it, or... fuck... her PaDD was back in her room. Of all days to leave it behind.
Rin set what she hoped was a reassuring hand on Myne's shoulder, although it was also firm enough to keep her in bed, unless Myne wanted to actively fight it.
"No one is saying you're a bad host," Rin said. "And no one is going to hurt you. But you need to rest. I hit you hard. I'm sure the doctor can excuse you from duty for the day."
"Ensuring that you get some rest I can do," Olivia replied. "Now as far as the Zhian'tara, that is a something you should think on for awhile. Just because it didn't go well for you the first time, doesn't mean it would be the same way later on down the road. You are a good host and if you weren't one then the Commission wouldn't of approved you for the joining process. It is just a matter of finding the right balance that works for you in your duties, the memories that you gained in becoming joined, and being able to still assert yourself at the same time to prove yourself.
Feeling her friend's hand on her shoulder helped calm her down, the firmness of said hand as Myne tried to rise driving home the fact that running away was not on the table anymore. Instead, she let her back enjoy the not comforting at all presence of the medical bed, looking up at Rin and looking a bit less afraid. "You didn't hit me that hard. Top ten maybe? Vede had his skull broken once so you know, high bar and all that." She tried to joke and reassert her cheerful exterior. If only Myne could remember right now who once told her that she used humor as a coping or defense mechanism.
"Doc doc I've been through it and I've thought about it. It's a no-go, and it is for the best. I'm asserted and in control, I just found out that maybe meditation is just not my style. You know?" The nervous patient Trill told the doctor Trill while trying to look calmer. "Don't even need a day off duty, too much to do and backlog bigger than the sickbay. Actually, the sickbay is number twenty-five on that backlog and I could get working on it..."
"You are staying put for a bit longer," Olivia replied. "There is only one person that can over ride my decision to ensure that you are alright and that is Commander Sthlig. He would want me doing my job in making sure that you are alright."
"Damn... that old Trill eating Gorn will not agree to give me a pass." Myne sighed and remained still in the bed. "Fine doc, get doing the eldritch things you wanna do on me." Stealing a glance at her friend, she continued on a more sheepish tone. "Rin, will you be staying here with me for a little while longer?"
"Of course." Rin pulled up a seat beside the bed and gave Myne's hand a squeeze. "As long as you...."
Rin swayed unsteadily, holding her head, until she set it on the bed to keep from fall off her chair entirely.
Myne's eyes went wide, her expression from a false, but brave smile to instant worry, squeezing Rin's hand in a panic. "Rin?? Rin!!" She called out worried, glad that Rin at least held onto her hurt arm. Using her healthy one she brought it to Rin's cheek shaking slightly as if trying to wake her up. A few whimpers escaped her lips, her bruises flaring up. "Doc, something is wrong with Rin!! Please help her!!"
Olivia started checking things over quickly to see what was going on with her patient. "I'm on it," Olivia replied as she worked on her patient. "This is one of the main reasons we take the precaution of keeping each of you here when something similar happens. It is to make sure there aren't any underlying issues before sending you back out into the world so to speak." Olivia continued to on her patient as others came over to help out at the same time.
Rin allowed herself to be half-led, half-carried to a bed next to Myne's. "My vision is impaired," she reported, trying to focus on the things around her. "Our heads did strike quite hard, repeatedly."
She turned her head in Myne's direction. "I'll be ok. Just in need of some assistance."
"I guess... thank you doc doc." Myne replied to Olivia and allowed herself to relax a bit in her bed as Rin was lead away, giving in to her own pulsing migraine. "Please don't... mention this to big lizard daddy doc."
Turning to look back at Rin, Myne gave her friend the first genuine smile ever since she wrestles control back from Vede. "You do give a new meaning to the saying 'bumping heads together'! I've been on worse dates, at least this one ended with both of us in bed at least!" She chuckled trying to cheer Rin up.
"You said you weren't looking for a romantic relationship," Rin said, frowning slightly, worried she was still misunderstanding the matter. At least the headache was going away now that medical was treating her.
"I will only mention this if there is a need to do so," Olivia replied. "Main thing is you two being more careful in the future." Olivia continued to work on her patient and make a few mental notes for future reference. "Just who's idea was this to begin with anyway?"
Coughing a bit, Myne shook her head and did her best to sigh in the most dramatic manner possible. "A girl is still allowed to hide her worries and nerves behind humor still, right? Come on Rin, that was a masterful joke if I do say so myself. I deserve a snicker at least! Humor is supposed to be good for the health! Tell her doc!"
Winking at Olivia, the Trill continued. "Thank you doc, the big doc doesn't need to know. We'll be careful. This was a good idea, I just don't take well to meditation apparently! Nothing but an accident!"
"My idea," Rin said weakly, answering Olivia's question. "Meditation helps me. Thought it might help her too. No reason to suspect this was a possibility."
"Might be a good idea to sit down and go through a few potential options for future reference then," Olivia said. "Don't need you to having a repeat session like this down the road. "Just because the medication didn't work this round doesn't mean that a different variation not work down the road at some point. It is just a matter of finding the right one that would work."
