MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Squadron Briefing Room
1055 words - 2.1 OF Standard Post Measure
Vaii entered the squadron briefing room and proceeded to the podeum. "Alright everyone, shut your mouths and listen up. There's a reason I had you all haul ass in here today." Jessica noted.
"What's the problem, Boss." Marianna noted.
"The problem is we have a snake onboard this ship, who will remain anonymous." Jess noted. "The good news is that we have one of those industrial vehicle replicators onboard that will allow us to easier replace fighters and equipment we lose in combat." The room could tell Jessica was pissed, so they kept quiet. "The problem is this snake does not hold the fighter squadron in a favorable light. She now has the Captain's ear, and she doesn't give a damn about our department. Listen up people. She wants to prove her point. The Captain thinks she has a point. I want no incidents this woman can use to prove her point." Jess noted. "No matter what happens, I don't want one single incident Flight Operations can use. We are professionals and the finest goddess damned pilots in the United Federation of Planets... Even though this woman thinks we're screw-ups and hotdogs. From this point on, all of you will be playing active roles in the maintenance and upkeep of all of our fighters. I don't want this idiotic asshole proving any part of her agenda nor bias about us. I don't want one big chicken dinner on this squadron. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR!!"
"Ma'am, yes MA'AM." The pilots noted, snapping to attention.
"Dismissed." The pilots came at ease and turned to leave the room.
Ensign van Allen spoke with Vaden Kalasi as they left. "Damn.... It's like a Denebian Slime Devil climbed up the El-Tee-Com's ass. Something must have happened upstairs."
"It is logical to assume Commander Vaii is dealing with stress. It would be advisable not to react to this. She is telling us to increase our dilligence with our equipment." T'Venn noted in his very vulcan demenaor.
"I'll say..." Marianna noted. "Ever since Shaleena quit, Vaii has been more moody than usual. It's just not right. Now she has to deal with the five hundred pound gorillas upstairs? C'mon. We should ask maintenance what they need."
Gary came into the briefing room, nodding at the others before making a beeline for Jess.
---
Jess continued to work on a padd with maintenance schedules on the fighters.
Gary stopped on the other side of the desk as Jess looked up at him.
"Before you say something, I am not apologizing, ever, for defending the integrity and respect my pilots deserve. We are not reckless, and we do not screw ups!!!" Jessica noted. "So you can demote me to Lieutenant now and be on your way. I will defend my people's dignity and self respect. So help me Goddesses."
"Now you listen to me Commander." Gary's voice was like a rifle shot. You are totally overreacting. Ensign Derani did not say anything out of the way about our pilots. She made a general statement that YOU took personally. You were way out of line in both your words and your actions. Totally unprofessional and I'm not demoting you at least not yet. You don't want to apologize, don't . " Gary finished flally.
"That was not an opinion, Commander. That was an agenda. I know an Agenda when I hear one. Commander." Jessica noted. "She was the one out of line. I did not come there for a pissing match with Flight Ops, and now I have the Captain believing she has a point." Jessica noted. "Wait until I'm denied parts and equipment because the Captain thinks Derani has a point. She doesn't have a point. She's six months out of the Academy, and greener than a Gorn!!!"
"Then you need to get your hearing checked Jess pronto. If anyone was out of line it was you. No one has more pride in the pilots here on the Elysium. Than me, no one including you. Derani isn't going to deny you parts or equipment. You are doing a terrible disservice to her and yourself. You are blowing this way out of proportion Jess." Gary replied evenly.
Jess punched a button on her console and parts of the conversation in the main bay played. 'I give it six months before someone does something stupid becuase they don't care any more. Less for the fighter squadron.'
'The fighter group spends twelve to fifteen times the hours at conn compared to the rest of the crew, except me. That's twelve to the fifteen times the opportunity for someone to screw up. Its not out of line, its just maths.'
Jess then stared at Gary. "I know full well what the point she was making, Commander. And I the hell don't like it. And now the Captain thinks she has a point. I have no idea what's going to come down from on-high next. We didn't see Carrington coming, and now Shaleena Vais is goddesses knows where, doing goddesses knows what, because she somehow ended up on the woman's 'list.' My hearing is working just fine!!!"
"Jess, listen to yourself. Derani isn't pointing fingers at the squadron, she's pointing out the likelihood of a possible mishap. Nothing more, nothing less. Vais left because she like you refused to listen. Captain Lovejoy offered to get her back to being a fighter pilot and she attacked him. You say your hearing is fine. If that is the case then your thinking is askew." Gary fired back at Jess.
"I'll apologize if she agrees to tell me she does not think we're screw ups nor are we careless with equipment." Jess stared at him. "I put my heart into training these pilots."
"Everyone recognizes that Jess and we're all thankful for the outstanding job you do." Gary sighed. Jess was being an absolute brick on this issue concerning Derani.
"Alright, Commander. I'll give Derani some slack." Jessica mentioned. "But after what we've been through with Captain Carrington. I have no idea what she sent to Starfleet Command about my people here. My trust level for anyone from Command.. Is about zero, and I'm wondering if the next time we get back to earth. They'll find some way to blame Carrington's dead on Phoenix Lalor."
