Mind your Animal Pt. 1

Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: USS Talleyrand
Timeline: Nine Years ago
954 words - 1.9 OF Standard Post Measure

Admiral Trogar appeared with his pet carrier in the Talleyrand's transporter room. He was coming onboard for an inspection, along with his prized persian. He took that cat everywhere with him, but little did the cadets of the USS Talleyrand know what that four legged terror would do.

As soon as the Admiral finished materializing, the bousun stepped forward and blew the flourishes in her whistle, to signify an officer of flag rank had arrived.

Doryan called the room to attention, then stepped forward to greet his old friend and former commanding officer. "Admiral, you honor us with your visit. Welcome aboard, Sir."

"Ah Doryan.. Nice to see you again. So this is the ship that they gave you?"

Doryan grinned slightly as he replied. "Yes, Sir. I know she older than most but, her lines are still smooth and she's got plenty of lightyears still to go." He grinned again. "Just like the two of us, Sir."

Trogar smiled wickedly "You got everything set up on your end. This is going to be a wonderful test for your cadets."

Nodding slowly, a slight grin crossed Doryan's face as he replied. "Yes, Sir. My cadets will not know what hit them. But for now, perhaps you'd care to relax and refresh, before I give you a guided tour?"

Admiral Trogar nodded and gave his pet carrier to one of the cadets that was taking things to his quarters.

---

Cadet Traynor entered the Admiral's Quarters his arms full of his possessions, including the pet carrier, the cat began to rumble in the pet carrier to get Traynor to loose balance and suddenly the luggage and the pet carrier fell on the ground and popped open. The cat made a bee-line for the door and slipped out into the ship.

---

"Doryan... I want my cat found!!! I don't care how you do it!!! Use your cadets. I'll give them whatever position they want if they graduate. Oh my poor snookums."

Doryan nodded and sighed to himself. While the Admiral was both an old friend and his former mentor, it still felt odd that the man would connect himself so strongly to a pet. However, he didn't let any of that show as he replied. "Don't worry, Admiral. We'll find your pet. He reached over and pressed a control on his desk. "Cadet Salannis an Vantar, report to my ready room immediately."

---

Arrianna entered Captain Kox's Ready Room with her usuall calm disposition. "You sent for me Captain?"

"Cadet," Doryan started in his usual gruff tone. "As my science chief, I have a mission for you and your department. The Admiral's pet cat just escaped the Admiral's quarters and is hidden somewhere on the ship. Your orders, are to use the internal sensors, locate the animal and return it unharmed to the Admiral, before the end of your duty shift today. Do you understand?"

"You desire me to locate the Admiral's animal?" Arrianna noted. "I do not understand pet custom of the Federation's. My people do not own animals as.... pets... Perhaps the animal simply desired freedom?" If there was one thing about the Alindari. They simply flabbergasted everyone in sight.

"It is not your place to understand the customs of other races, Cadet!" His tone grew sharper. "Your place is to simply follow my orders, without question. Unless, of course, you do not feel like you are up to the task. In which case, I'll find myself another Cadet to be the chief science officer, and you can go back to looking through ore samples." He let that sit for a beat, then asked, "Well, Cadet? What will it be?"

"Very well, Captain." Arrianna picked up her PADD and began to access the internal sensors... attempting a scan... "Hmm... Internal Sensors are offline for some reason. That is impossible. I had Cadet Simmons calibrate them last monday, she is exceptional at sensor maintenance." Arri mentioned. Doryan probably knew better than to question. Arri was a savant at science and technology. Including the rare moments she actually made a mistake with her profound mental discipline. It was easy to tire an Alindari out in Earth gravity. Doryan kept pushing her however.

"That sounds dangerously like you're making excuses, Cadet!" Doryan seemed to become quite disappointed. "You now have four hours to complete the task. One more excuse and I'll make sure you're cataloging gaseous emissions from a methane planet. Now, get out of my sight and complete your mission!"

---

Arrianna left Kox's Ready Room. She tapped her combadge. "Salannis an Vantar to Reece... Can you get some off-duty cadets together. I require you to assist me in a search of the ship for a Felis Cattus."

Down in the gymnasium, Kyle was busy working on a heavy bag, when his commbadge chirped and he heard Arrianna's voice on it. Smiling, he stopped throwing punches and moved over to his towel and commbadge. After picking up both, he activated the device. "Sweetheart, did you just say that there's a loose cat on board?"

"Apparently... Admiral Trogar brought his animal onboard the Talleyrand, and the Captain has given me four hours to locate this creature. Get Lylja and the others and aid me in finding this cat. Use tricorders if necessary. I am going to find out why the internal sensors are offline." Arrianna noted.

"Alright, but don't think this gets you out of making dinner tonight. It is Your turn, afterall." He chuckled softly. "I'll get the group together and start looking in the secondary hull. We should be able to get through it in about three hours. Meet you up in the saucer section then."
