ON

Lia sat and thought about how she could cheer up her spouse, he'd seemed down for the past couple of days. She hadn't said anything, knowing if Gary wanted to talk he would make the first move. The time they'd spent together had taught her that much, plus it was coming up to Christmas. Gary was probably thinking of Catlin, despite having married Lia he still loved his first wife very dearly.

Catlin's death had affected Gary deeply, he had shut himself off from the outside world. Just as Lia had done, when life had deeply wounded her. They made an odd couple, from hate had sprung love and affection. Even now Lia still didn't know how or why the two had clicked, but they had and even tied the knot. Only one more small matter was missing and needed to be addressed, and she was working on that. A visit to the CMO was on the cards, maybe next year would be their year.

She decided to send him a Christmas song, but which one? A thought now came to her, a song which at one time Lia herself had found comfort. Yes, that was the one. "Computer, send to Commander Gary Taylor. "Mike Oldfield, The Time Has Come". Play it as soon as he enters our cabin". Lia now scanned her music files and found the track, she decided to listen and make sure Gary would enjoy the song.

A thousand years, they wait for someone who would be true.
And now the empty years have passed, the sunlight shines anew.
Someone who knows no fear, I feel him near.
The child was born to be a King, a King.
And the time has come.

He tamed the wild wind when he passed, the birds and beasts he knew.
Until he came to rest at last, the tall gates he passed through.
Someone who knows no fear, I feel him near.
The child was born to be a King, a King.
And the time has come.

And now the story's just begun, a thousand years to stay.
We wake each morning with the sun, to live our dreams away.
Someone who knows no fear, I feel him near.
The child was born to be a King, a King.
And the time has come.

Anita Hegerland's clear voice soared with the lyrics, and the music filled Lia's office. She had picked the right song, Gary would listen and understand the message within the song. The message from her to him, to let him know she was here when he wanted to talk. Memories of friends now departed crept into Lia's mind, Liselle and Matias being uppermost. How do you sum up five years on Elysium? Truth to tell you can't, life here moves to fast and friends come and go like stars passing in the dark space beyond the ship herself.

Chief Security/Tactical Officer
