When the time for dinner neared, Mattias asked Morti to have the Alindari ambassador escorted to the East Dinning Room. It wasn't the large formal dinning room used for state events but, one used for smaller meetings with ambassadors and other one-on-one meals with those that wish an audience with the Empress and Emperor.
After Morti bowed and left, Mattias moved to check on Penelope. He found her in the nursery, fazing down at their beautiful daughter. "Dearest," he whispered as he stepped up behind his bride, wrapping his arms around her waist, and peeked over her left shoulder at their sleeping princess
"hmm I know we need to go." She said softly. "But I love watching her sleep."
He smiled warmly. "I know. Me too. She is absolutely perfect Pene. She will rule a vast and powerful empire, when the time comes." He gently kissed the side of his wife's neck.
She smiled. "Well then lets go speak with the Ambassador and see about starting that Empire."
Mattias nodded and smiled. "Yes, let's see what she truly has to offer us." He released his hold on Penelope, then moved to offer her his left arm.
Linking her arm through his, she let him lead her out of their rooms.
A few moments later, they were entering the dining room. "Ambassador," he said as they moved closer to the table, the servants pulling out their chairs for them.
Vanessa nodded. "Regent.." She replied calmly.
Mattias escorted Penelope to her seat, then moved to his seat, at the head of the table and sat down. As soon as both the Empress and Emperor were settled, the footman started to serve the first course.
"So," Mattias began. "Tell us, what exactly you wish to propose."
"The Beta Quadrant Company is offering weapons and ships, enough to completely shift the balance of power. In return. We ask for preferential trade networks with your empire and the vassalized former Terran Empire. Grand Duchess Alicianna is not interested in the short term.. but she is interested in ensuring the Terrans pay their debts. We Alindari never forget that."
Nodding slowly, Mattias asked the question, "And these ships and weapons that you are offering, I imagine that they will be brought in and operated by your own people? To ensure your own technological security, of course?"
Vanessa spoke. "Trust is important, my lord.." She mentioned. "You will find that the Alindari Empire is mutual benefit as we pick the Terrans to pieces. If you wish to man these ships with your own soldiers.. Then by all means, we will sell them to you. If we desire a joint crewing of this armada, that can be arranged as well. If you desire us to participate alongside Erisian ships. We are ammendable to that agreement as well. As long as it establishes the trade networks the Viceroy is interested in. An arrangement can be made." Vanessa noted. "Viceroy Alicianna is not as prideful as Viceroy Arrianna was."
Mattias was silent while he considered what was just said. "Perhaps for now, until our lines of trade, and trust, are on more solid ground, we will agree on more of a joint protection pact. Your forces stay on your side of our border, ours stay on our side. We each guard against the common foe, and our warships only cross into each other's territory when we detect an allied vessel is in distress. And then, once the crisis has been averted, we return to our respective sides of the border."
"Very well," Vanessa noted. "It was an honor." She bowed politely and turned to leave.
Phoenix exchanged a look with Mattias as the ambassador left. She considered it. And said "Call for Morin" to a servant.
The servant in question stepped forward and bowed. "At once, Your Grace!" He then scurried off to fulfill his mission.
A few moments later, Morin entered the court and hurried to the front of the Imperial Dias. Bowing respectfully, he asked, "How may I serve, Your Majesty?"
She gave him orders and he left to carry them out.

Bleehhh! Yuck.
This whole lil' ol' mirror universe you've created. Icky. Like taking a sip of a warm, flat Coke. As much fun as a root canal. It's the exact same feeling, I imagine, one would get when you have to use the terlit very badly and the only choice in a hunnerd miles is a dirty gas station. No ass gaskets either so you either hover over the bowl or you grin and bear it. You forgot to check the paper roll and guess what. Yeah; they out. Now you have to use the brown scratchy sink towels. Rough and there's only four of 'em.
Yeah sure the palace might be nice. Probably filled with an inordinate number of black candles and gold colored ash trays. Stinky incense burning
"sandalwood". No TV, no XBox; candy dishes (one of two) are filled with either Hall's cough drops or a bunch of old rusty Canadian pennies. And for some reason...a lot of newspapers lying about with the crossword puzzles all filled in. Like, seriously, a newspaper from three years ago is still on the coffee table and the puzzle is filled in.
And 2 down is wrong.
Nine letters, "Something That's Cracked and Gross"
Someone filled in "EMPERORME"
Correct answer is: "DIRTYJOKE"
Like, couldn't they have just turned the paper over and see the answer? But no. They didn't even fix it. And it's still here three years later.
Lots of "You Break It; You Buy It" signs in many of the sitting rooms. Some rooms have cameras. Other rooms have the fake cameras that are just the shaded dome, but no camera inside. Like, really? That's where the budget cuts are made?
Mazzy Star playing on the radio. So depressing. No pets. Not even a dentist office aquarium tank with no fish in it. A swimming pool with no water and the only thing to do outside is weed the garden.
No thanks. Pass.
