There was so much tension Myne felt as she was about to explode. Alright, that was innacurate, but she felt as if something inside of her was about to give if she did not find a way to vent all of that buildup. Reaching the safe confines of her cabin, she went straight to the bathroom to splash water onto her face.
Raising her eyes and staring into the mirror she saw it. She worked so hard to keep it in, to hide it, but now that she was alone it was there in full glory. A wicked, excited, almost joyfully cruel, insane smile. So many horrible emotions packed behind one smile.
Everything that was discussed in that meeting with those pretentious strangers, it all made her blood boil. It had been so exciting, such a addictive rush, the waves of emotions, memories, impulses, experiences from so many before her. All stemming from her desire to help, she foolishly called upon them.
Iza, Kajan, Visro, Rajess, Naril, Aajed, Sirzin, Tuless, Jesre, Vede, Sudra, she drew from every single one of them. And the rush had been like being drunk but better. Being high without the after effects. It had been intoxicating to have oh so very much at her fingertips, so empowering, so much control.
It escaped her completely how much she had shifted from her usual self to seeing those around her as foolish children. Playing a silly game. How the more memories and experiences she drew upon the less Myne she was and the more Redal she became. Even Super Garrett she had looked upon like a sage elder staring down at a upstart youngster. It was such a alien experience.
But all good intentions do have the habit of leading to worse outcomes if not carefully managed. And that had been her folly. A mistake Myne realized only barely as she felt and saw the fingers wrapping around her throat and that truly evil, unrepentant grin staring from behind her.
She knew the hand was not there, it was all in her head, but she felt it all the same, even as the tower of a man spoke.
"You finally gave in. Took you long enough you foolish child. Did it feel good? All that power, all that knowledge, did your muscle tense? Did your instincts felt as if they had never been sharper before? The collective knowledge and instincts of all those before you." The merciless pirate spoke, his words like sweet ambrosia laced with venom.
"Yes..." She gasped in response, as if begging him to tell her more. Already hooked on that rush, on that high, wanting more. No, needing more.
"How did it make you feel?"
"Fearless. Powerful. In control."
"If you want more, all you have to do is stop pushing us away. Open your mind to us." The sweet poison of Vede's words continue to pour into her ear as he now was whispering, tempting Myne to finally give in.
"NO!" Myne opened her half closed eyes, looking into the mirror panicked. She had not been the one to scream that word. And then she felt it, the hand on hers and she saw him.
Those tired, exhausted, worn out eyes. The age showing much more gravely than it should. A life spent carrying a terrible burden and more pain and loss than it was fair. Sudra provided such a strong contract in his advanced, tired, weary age to the powerful, confident and brimming of life Vede.
"Do not do it Myne. You are stronger than this. Do not give in to these base instincts. You are in control, not them!" Sudra pleaded and begged with her, almost paternal worry visible on his face.
Who in her right mind would listen to the old man? A thought mirrored by Vede who scoffed and then laughed. "Are you really going to listen to this decrepit fool? This useless drunkard? He could not even keep his family safe. I on the other hand commanded the fear and respect of interstellar powers!"
It was true, who would listen to the foolish old man? Myne was still a girl inside, broken as she was she could not help but be taken by the man holding her neck so possesively. It was primal attraction if nothing else.
"I..." She started but trailed off.
"You are more than the symbiont inside of you. You are Myne first, only after that you are Redal." Sudra spoke softly now, changing his approach. "Myne, if you want to save your friends, you need to be in control."
"Save them? These useless moralist fools? With over two hundred latinum bars and more riches you can buy your own ship. Hire your own crew, own these trade lanes and screw the Federation. Fuck everyone and be in true control over your fate." Vede chuckled and pressed forward. "It would be so easy to play along and betray them at the end to that Admiral."
"And sentence everyone to death Myne. T'Kara, Rin, Damien, Vira, Sapphire, Garrett." Sudra did not stop trying to fight Vede's influence.
"A broken Vulcan, a stunted former Borg, some meaningless Risian and a bunch of worthless Humans. You don't need any of them to shine little girl. Stop fighting me and the others and you will rise leagues above them." Vede spoke with the confidence and power of undeniable truth on his side.
"He is right though." Sudra spoke suddenly, the sly fox playing one last card. "You could just transport Super Garrett's upper body out into space." That made Myne suddenly feel very appalled all of the sudden, looking at Sudra in shock.
"Rin? I am sure we have a virus in the Ark that can fry the last of her implants, leave her a nice little broken doll." The old Academy instructor continued earning a violent tremble from Myne and a weak no.
"And T'Kara? Surely you can approach her and pretend to be affectionate. Not even a Vulcan can survive a knife in her heart, right? Serve her right for opening up and loving..." Sudra did not get to finish that sentence.
Even as Vede was ready to counter him Myne screamed and buckled. She felt sick to her stomach, one hand gabbing herself while the other had formed into a fist and struck herself right where Redal would be.
"GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!" It took a few seconds for her to regain her senses, trembling furiously from every joint as she knelt on the floor. Breathing heavily and still gabbing her stomach.
"I will never... betray my friends or... T'Kara. You fucking, evil, crazy worm. One day..." Her tone was full of such vile, pure, unbridled hatred and rage. No trace of the quirky, cheerful, kind, open and warm young Trill in that tone and in those words. "One day Redal, I will cut you out of me with my own two hands. I swear it to you, one day... I will have the last laugh."
She got up slowly, carefully and splashed more water onto her face before clearing her throat and rearranging her uniform. Looking back into the mirror she plastered a silly, cheerful smile on her face, bringing the Myne everyone knew back as a front.
"Just you wait. I'll show you." She finished in a cheerful tone as she turned and left the bathroom. Myne had work to do. If this crazy plan was to work, she had a lot of hurdles ahead of her. She had to keep everyone safe from that evil Admiral, no matter the cost.
