Checking in

Mission: Season 2: Episode 3: Determination is not always a good thing
Location: Base Camp
755 words - 1.5 OF Standard Post Measure

Jaeih moved through the crowds in the base camp. She looked around and found who she was looking for. "Petty Officer Neeze!" She called out as she approached.

"Here!" Anya called, then turned around to see who wanted her attention. The Romulan. Well, half-Romulan, Anya assumed, by the name and complexion. She didn't know what to make of her. On the one hand, she did not trust Romulans. On the other, this was an officer in Starfleet, so she couldn't be all bad, could she? "What can I do for you, ma'am?" she asked in a formal, neutral tone.

"Just checking in. I have to report to the Captain shortly and I know you have been in the middle of things here, and anything you can tell me would be great" Jaeih said coming to a stop beside her.

Anya frowned, thinking. "Well, besides the obvious with our abducted personnel, Fernan... de la Rosa and I helped the Home Guard take care of a riot, for one thing, and we set up base defences. I'm not too impressed with the Home Guard, except for their leader, Colonel vel-Cro. She's a tough one, and a fantastic pilot, too. I mean, they're doing their best, I'm sure, but they're bloody amateurs. Weekend soldiers. Half the time they don't even know how to properly maintain a phaser. But they're trying, which is more than can be said for some people."

Jaeih made notes on a PADD. "Would the Colonel appreciate you and De La Rosa giving her people training?" She asked as she did so.

"I doubt it", Anya said. "There's this Captain Anderson. About as wide as he's tall, which admittedly isn't very. Barely a metre and a half tall but I think he must be weighing a hundred and fifty kilos. Tough talker, though, says he's fought the Dominion as a ground pounder." He sure could pound the ground something fierce, Anya thought. "Pompous ass, but he knows what he's doing."

Jaeih studied Anya's face for a moment. "Ok. Will we require additional security forces down here, do you think?"

"Yes, ma'am", Anya said, needing no time at all to think about that one. "The natives are getting restless, and I don't want anyone to get killed. Some air support would be nice. Stun everyone who's misbehaving, in a fifty metre radius."

Nodding Jaeih made a note of that. "I am sure Commander Taylor would enjoy flying cap over us. I might also see about getting some power generators down here to augment our security barriers." She mused.

"The barriers are fine", Anya said. "Facilities insides aren't sufficient to take care of everybody. We need to evacuate. When are those ships getting here, anyway?"

"I wish I knew. I have heard that we can expect shuttles from Elysium for those classed as too sick to stay planet side but still nothing from Starfleet or the Klingons." Jaeih said softly.

"Then, as Estelle puts it, we're ducked", Anya concluded.

Jaeih smiled at the wording. "Or as my father says 'up ship creek without a raft and paddles' " but then she shrugged. "We can use the transporters as a last resort. Elysium has a fair emergency capacity. "

"It's 'up shit creek'", Anya corrected. "A small tidal inlet, which is difficult to get up against the current. And the shit, well, it's just not good."

Jaeih gave nod. "My father didn't like to swear in front of me and my siblings." Pausing she sighed. " thank you for the update though. I will send this to the Captain."

"I'm worried about Liorga and Dorso", Anya said. "There is no shortage of volunteers here ready to pounce on them, the moment we figure out where they're hiding. We want them back, and alive."

"I know and understand. I am sure the Captain and XO are working on that as we speak. If you like I will put your name forward for any rescue mission mounted." Jaeih suggested.

Anya nodded. "And Mona Lott, too. And Fernando de la Rosa. We're all eager to get to grips with them." She didn't mention the others who wanted to join in, as Anya herself didn't want engineers like Gallia in the group. She figured Gallia would just be another person to protect, rather than help, in a firefight.

Jaeih nodded and made the notes on her padd. Then with a tentative friendly smile, she said "Thank you for your assistance Petty Officer. I will leave you to your task."

Anya nodded again. "Thank you, ma'am."
