Emily sat with her head resting on her hands, she wasn’t used to telepathic communication with anyone but George, she wasn’t as powerful as he was. At least she didn’t think so. She looked up as she felt George’s presence.
“You can stop hovering, I’m okay.” She motioned for him to sit beside her. “Are you okay?”
Sitting next to his twin, George put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her in for a warm, brotherly side-embrace. "Sorry, Emm. Old habits." He gently pressed the side of his head against hers, like they used to do as kids, then while they were recovering, in Hawaii.
“It’s okay” Emily smiled. “I’m not as ... accomplished as you at using my abilities, I was afraid to use them for a very long time. I don’t even know how I got into Etrara’s head, I just touched her and I was there!” She shook her head. “I need you to teach me George, teach me to be like you.”
George lifted his head away and shook it. "You don't want what I can do, Emm," he said quietly. "It feels like a beast is always pacing a cage in my mind, just waiting to be released. And, the few times it started to come out, I almost lost control!" He shook his head again.
"Besides, your ability, being a touch telepath, is something I can't do. Yes, I can force my way into someone's mind, but, you can just do it so effortlessly. Practice gaining control of the abilities you do have. They will serve you far better than mine ever will."
Emily nodded as she cuddled up to George. “Have you ever stopped to think that maybe we’re meant to balance each other out? We’re twins .. we both bring something different to the mix. Maybe we should find out more about our abilities, and our family ties.”
He made a face, signaling that he hadn't thought of that. Then, chuckling softly, he grinned at her. "Ya know, sometimes I wonder who the brains of our little duo is, then you come out with something like that, and I get my answer. You are." He winked at her, then kissed her forehead tenderly.
“I’m sorry if I scared you.” Emily offered an apologetic smile. “I was pretty out of it when I first broke connection with Etrara.”
"It's okay, Emm," he said to her honestly. "Like you said, we both have our strengths. With those strengths, comes drawbacks. Yours, clearly, is a feeling of exhausted blankness after you enter someone's mind. Mine, well...is a bit more destructive."
Emily nodded. “Well there’s not much we can do for now, but after all this is over let’s find out more about us. Actually I was thinking, I’d like to ask for permission to remain aboard the Elysium if that’s okay with you?”
He smiled warmly at her. "Emm, I'd love that!" He hugged her again. "And yes, maybe we try to discover our roots as well."
“No maybe!” Emily grinned. “I want to know more about our roots George, it’s a large chunk we’re missing.”
He nodded. "And it might also explain why our abilities are what they are."
Emily nodded. “So I guess once this is all over we can start doing some research? Find out all that we can.”
"Even if we don't find anything," he nodded in agreement, "At least it's better than not knowing."
“That’s true” Emily nodded and smiled. “You’ve always been there for me George, and I will always be there for you.”
George grinned softly. "I hope you can find someone who can make you feel as happy as I do with Leilani."
“So do I” Emily nodded. “The two of you were always meant to be, George. I’m happy she makes you happy.”
"Leilani, Hendor, and our unborn child," he sighed happily. "They all help me be very happy." He hugged his twin sister warmly. Next to you, they make me the happiest and calmest that I have ever been."
Emily nodded. “I’ve noticed. Leilani grounds you, she is the one you were always meant to find. Now I just have to find the man who completes me, but it’s hard ...” she hung her head. “I’m afraid to let any man touch me George, you’re the only one I trust.”
Her brother shrugged slightly, then asked, "What if, you're not looking for a man to share your life with?" It was an honesty question, one without any judgment or apprehension.
Emily gave her brother a surprised look. “Are you suggesting what I think you’re suggesting? That I should look for a woman?” She had to admit it was something she hadn’t given any consideration to.
He shrugged slightly. "I'm not suggesting anything, Emm. All I'm saying is maybe your heart might be wanting something else. It doesn't matter to me where that path takes you, I will love you with all my heart always." He reached out and hugged her. "I just want you to be happy."
Emily nodded. “To be honest I’ve never thought about whether I’d like a female partner. I guess time will tell one way or another.”
George nodded and smiled. "I know two things about whomever you end up with." He paused to let her ask.
Emily looked at George curiously. “What would those be?”
He grinned mischievously. "One, until they prove themselves to me, I won't think they're good enough for you. And two, refer to the first point." He chuckled as he spoke.
Emily grinned. “Ever my protective brother, and you know I love you for it.” She gave him a kiss on the cheek.
George smiled softly and hugged his sister. "I love you too, Emm."
“Ohh and for what it’s worth” Emily grinned. “I think Leilani is the perfect woman for you!”
His features warmed as he smiled. "Thank you, Emm. It means a lot to me, that you two get along so well."
“I like her” Emily smiled. “Leilani is a nice person. I just hope I eventually find someone who loves me as much as she loves you.”
