Lorelei was having a cup of orange spice ginger tea. Her Chief was having a Turkish coffee. She was silent for awhile until he spoke to break the silence.
“Ensign,” Victor says as he was tasting the cardamon distinct flavor, “You are a quiet one.”
“Sorry Sir,” she sighed a bit. “Mind was preoccupied. Was there something you needed?”
“No Miss Lorelei,” Victor smiled. “I sometimes stare at the stars to when I feel regret as in was there something I should have done differently.”
“So I am that obvious,” she rolled her eyes a bit. “So have read my file or something?”
“I am given two files to read for each one under my supervision,” Victor says as he had taken another sip. “I do not read the personal file, just the job performance one. I did not read your personal one. That is why that one is called personal. Your job performance has always been exceptional.”
“Thanks,” Lorelei shrugged, “Something you should know Sir,” she paused as she caught her breath, “Louis Bordeaux and I have had romantic past. It was right after we graduated. Well not really romantic but it …Never mind.”
Victor nodded. “So past tense I take it.”
“For now,” Lorelei answered.
“I understand,” Victor says with a reassuring voice, “I know you were brief about my past including with Tonya. As long as it does not interfere with your work, it id in the past. I know what I need to know. If you need to talk with someone, I suggest a counselor. My pet peeve are people who put themselves out there as life coaches without any formal training.” At that moment, Victor was paged by his daughter. After talking to her, Victor responds, “I need to go see what this is all about.”
Lorelei nods again. She watches her Chief walk off as her mind was preoccupied. She thought back again to that weekend in Hawaii as she slowly sipped her tea.
—— The Past ———-
Lorelei was in her element as she was now wearing a one piece bathing suit. She loved the water, especially when it was connected to an ocean and this bay was connected to the Pacific Ocean.
Her swimming buddy was one of her friends named Sophia Longoria. Sophia was very voluptuous as she wore a two piece outfit which left very little to the imagination.
Louis walked up to the two of them as they both laid down on their bellies on blankets on the hot sand. “Hello ladies. Any of you need to have sun tan lotion?”
Lorelei sighed. “Sunlight does not burn my Siren skin but I believe Sophia might need it.”
Sophia rolled over purposely acting like she had forgotten she had taken her top off. “Oh hello Louis. Coming back for more?”
He felt his play backfired as he explained, “About last night. You left me. I woke up and you were gone.”
Sophia stood up as she grabbed her top, “Oh I do not stay. Not into the lovey dovey part. Love them and leave them is what I always say.” Sophia walked away as she threw her hair back.
Lorelei faced palm herself. “Thought you just got here.”
“Came in last night,” Louis said as he felt like he had a frog in his throat. “She was on the flight.”
“I see,” Lorelei grinned. “Sophia is a player and so are you. Doesn’t feel great when you get played first. You left me early this morning, where did you go?”
“You are right,” Louis coughed a bit. “Players play. Hard to find the right one when everyone wants casual.”
Lorelei faced palm herself again. “Spoken like a true player. You need to be careful. You want to go for a swim?”
“Sure,” Louis said as he followed to the water.
