The doors to Starfleet Medical’s severe burns wing flew open as the latest medical emergency was brought in.
“Someone get me Doctor Sthilg!! NOW!!!”
The Young Medic who accompanied the patient knew that the Gorn was related to the patient she was bringing in, under normal circumstances another doctor would be called but they needed the best, and that was Sthilg.
Sthilg had been a very tired lizard. Ever since he'd taken the job he'd been in endless board meetings dealing with everything from stored supplies, ship patrols and making sure starfleet intelligence didn't nick yet another one of his medical research ship's for who knows what reason. Even still the news off an incoming patient had snapped him back into his doctor's mood and he was down in the burns ward in seconds. " Report." He barked
The young woman kicked into her medical routine. “Caucasian female, 57 years of age, severe burns to over 80% of her torso. We did what we could on scene but we almost lost her twice on the way here.” She paused. “Her name is... I’m sorry Doctor it’s Captain Kelea-Salik.”
The gorn heart sank. " I told her to go on vaca...." He began before snapping back into doctor mode. " Get into the operating theatre i want as much replicated blood and plasma asss you can give me. " He said following the crash team as he looked at the medic. " What happened?"
“All we know is there was a plasma conduit breech in the science lab the Captain was in, it ignited nearby chemicals and caused an even bigger explosion. We had to dig out three victims, she’s the only one still alive. There’s trauma to her legs and spine but we couldn’t tell how bad.”
" Find out what chemicalsss were in the explosssion." Sthilg said stepping into the room his clothing immediately changing to the sterilized medical robes. The smell of burnt flesh hit his nose instantly. Alicia looked barely resembled herself on the operating theatre as the medics furiously hooked her up to the bed life support systems.
" Get me my toolsss we'll need to remove the dead tisssssue." He said calmly as he looked at his daughter a few tears in her eyes.
The young medic appeared back at the base of the bed. “There’s a full list of the chemicals known to be in the lab coming through now Doctor, mostly non-acidic fortunately, just highly combustible.”
The gorn flicked through the list. Nothing that cause poisoning thank the all mother. " Right let'sss get ssstarted ssshe'sss going to need multiple ssskin, artery and vein graftsss." The doctor said in a tone that most would think cold if they didn't know him. Internally his mind was screaming.
In her mind Alicia was sitting in a peaceful glade surrounded by flowers, the sun was shining and she felt oddly at peace. Back in Sickbay her readings were hovering at near death levels.
" You are not going to die on me you hear." Sthilg muttered as he injected a mixture of drugs, pain killers and nanoprobes to help heal her injuries internally as she got to work with his cybernetic arm. The liquid metal material split into multiple small tools as got to work.
~ Meanwhile in the relatives area ~
N’Vea stood holding onto her young daughter’s hand. She turned to look at the door as it opened rushing to greet her father as he stepped into the room. “Father! Am I glad to see you!!”
Savar came through the door, he was in his uniform and moved to N'Vea, "Daughter, I came as soon as I received word of your mother being in an accident. What do you know?"
“I haven’t heard anything yet, but they said they’d call Grandpa!” She sat down in the nearest seat tears in her eyes. “Mum... She... died. They brought her back!” She shook her head. “You didn’t see her, she looks...” she shook her head not willing to go into detail in-front of T’Vala.
Savar nodded stoically. From an outward appearance he looked cool and composed but inside his heart was breaking at the news N'Vea was telling him. "You must be strong daughter, for T'Vala as well as your mother. Your grandfather will do all he can to save her."
N’Vea nodded. “I will father, that I promise you!”
The door slid open again as a young woman stepped through the door wearing the medical blue of the academy uniform. If anyone saw her and Alicia side by side you think she was her daughter. That was until you saw the milky grey of her eyes that marked her gorn heritage. Acuzin Sthilg and Deanna’s miracle child had tears in her eyes as she walked over to her family.
Savar rose and greeted her, "Acuzin Come sit with us, we know nothing yet." He looked to N'Vea, "Where is your brother?"
”Connor is off world, his ship is on a deep space run.” She sighed. “I sent him a message but I’m not sure when he’ll be able to get back!”
Acuzin managed to nod as she sat behind Savar.
"I see." Savar answered simply. "Let us hope that Connor is able to join us. For now, we wait for Grandfather to save Alicia."
" Will he?" Acuzin asked from her seat. " I've seen the lab Savar there's nothing left."
“Don’t say things like that Acuzin!!” N’Vea looked towards Acuzin with tears in her eyes. “Mum is a fighter! She’ll live, I know she will.”
Acuzin managed to nob through her own sobbing. Despite the age difference, Alicia had always supported her as a big sister could.
"Acuzin, N'vea is correct, Alicia is a fighter, she will survive this but she will need all of to help and give her strength, To that end, we must stay united and strong,There is no room for doubt." Savar replied gently but firmly.
~ Some time later ~
It had seemed like a lifetime as everyone waited for news on Alicia. N’Vea had lay T’Vala down for a nap and was just dropping off herself when the door swished open. “Grandfather.... how did it go?”
The gorn looked tired beyond even his many years as he walked over to hug his family. Only after he felt them against him did he let out a very weak. " Ssshe'sss alive, but ssshe may never walk again."
N’Vea let out a breath she hadn’t realised she was holding as she moved to give her grandfather a hug. “Thank you Grandfather, you saved her!” She stepped back. “Can we see her?”
" Not close up for now, but you can sssee her through the glasssss." He replied tears in his own eyes.
He gave Acuzin a tighter squeeze reassuring his own flesh and blood. " It's alright little one i woudn't let anything happen to your sssisster."
Savar moved to Sthilg and in a rare show of emotion, clasped a hand to the gorn's shoulder. "Thank you, Father, for saving my wife and my love. I would like to see her alone if I may."
The gorn nodded through his own tears. " Go ahead i'll watch the children." He said as stoically as he could manage.
~ Not long afterwards ~
Inside her mind Alicia was sitting in a peaceful oasis, a field of green full of flowers that overlooked a crystal clear blue ocean. She smiled as she looked behind her at the figure of Savar.
*Hello Imzadi, you shouldn’t be here... but I’m glad you are!* She motioned for him to sit. *I don’t know if I’m going to survive this one, I’m being pulled in two directions.*
*Hello my love, my life. On the contrary, this is exactly where I need to be.* Savar answered as he moved to sit next to her. You are a strong resilient woman Alicia. You will survive this but you will have to fight as you have never done so before. Iam here to help you in that regard. *N'Vea and T'Vala are here as is Acuzin. Connor has yet to arrive as his ship is on a deep space run however I expect him nonetheless.* He took Acilia's hand. *Together my love, we will fight and win this together.*
Alicia mentally held Savar’s hand. *I will fight Imzadi, I’m not ready to leave all of you! I want to see our children and grandchild grow up.*
Savar's long, slender fingers curled around Alicia's hand encompassing it firmly in their grip. *You are my Imzadi Alicia. You are also a fighter. Not to mention our children and grandchildren want you to be a part of their lives for years to come as do I.* He finished by bringing her hand to his lips and kissing it softly.
