Getting his wings

Mission: Season 5: Episode 4: Reef
Location: Shuttlecraft Armstrong
Timeline: MD01-0800
725 words - 1.5 OF Standard Post Measure

On:

Andrinn walked from the back of the shuttle and took a seat at the conn console, putting in a few commands to check on the course of the shuttle. Making a few minor course corrections, the shuttle appeared to be on time with their meetup with the Starship Elysium within the next half an hour. He was excited about reporting onboard for his new assignment and to meet the people he would interact with for the next several months and years.

Andrinn heard about the posting for the Chief Diplomatic Officer from an old friend within the Diplomatic Corps. They had gone out several times, but nothing ever came from it except for a deep, personal friendship. The two kept in touch over the last few years and when Andrinn talked about his desire about going back out onto a Starship, the friend mentioned the Elysium was in need of several new Diplomatic Officers.

Sending his application over the next morning, Andrinn was shocked when he received a notice back that he had been accepted as the new Chief Diplomatic Officer, with a note from someone on the command staff to stop by when Andrinn arrived onboard.

Andrinn didn’t waste time in preparing to leave for the Elysium. Andrnn wasn’t an overly sentimental type, so he didn’t have a lot to pack up for the trip. However, there was something that he always took with him, no matter where the posting was.

It was a personal photograph of him, his parents, and his two younger brothers on his home planet of Trill, back in the early 22nd century. It was one of the last photos that they took together before his father passed away due to old age in 2112.

Andrinn’s parents were the reason why he went into diplomacy in the first place. Both of his parents were diplomats when they met back in the 21st century on the Trill homeworld. Andrinn’s father was a Trill Diplomat who had been working with the Vulcan High Command after they made first contact with the Trill. But, the talks between the Vulcans and Trill began cracking and the Vulcans brought in Emory, Andrinn’s mother.

The two eventually fell in love and had a family together, but the love was hardfought by members of the Trill society during that time. Xenophobia and bigotry were still socially tolerated, especially to people that the Trill considered outsiders. His parents, using their diplomatic skills and abilities, fought the bigotry that they saw around them on Trill, through threats of outcasting and even death itself.

As Andrinn and his siblings grew older and watched all that happened to their parents, it made them appreciate all that they had fought to be able to give them a wonderful life. Which was why the photo meant the world to Andrinn, especially since his father was no longer around.

The road down memory lane was cut short by several beeps coming through the comm system and from the console in front of him. Andrinn took a look to make sure that the shuttle itself wasn’t coming to some explosive end, but quickly realized that the shuttle had done its job flawlessly. The shuttle had come to a stop near a massive object in space…a starship.

Getting a view from the front, Andrinn realized quickly that he had made it to his new home, the USS Elysium. The ship was larger in person than from anything that Andrinn saw throughout his research into the vessel and its valiant crew.

Taking the long way around to take the full view of the ship in, Andrinn managed to get himself docked and reported in to the ship’s quartermaster. They informed him that all of his personal effects had arrived earlier in the day and had passed inspection. The quartermaster handed him a PADD, letting him know where his quarters were and where to pick up all of his personal items before reporting in.

After getting checked in with medical, the PADD let Andrinn know that he would be reporting into Commander Gary Taylor, the Elysium’s XO.

Finishing up with the Quartermaster, Andrinn headed out of the shuttlebay and onto the next part of his journey…meeting the crew.
