Location: Sickbay
Timeline: After "Something for Lia"
1113 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure

ON

Lia stood in the corridor outside sickbay, she wanted to talk to the CMO but nerves had got the best of her. The last mission had been another close run thing, but now she had to make good on her promise to Gary. Taking yet another deep breath, she entered sickbay. "Commander Sthilg, could I possibly have a quick word with you?"

Sthilg looked up from his desk giving her a smile. " Off courssse my friend. Come in and have a ssseat. " he said gesturing to the seat opposite his desk.

Sitting down, Lia looked slightly down at the floor. "Um, I'm not sure how to say this. But I need you to examine me and check if the surgery I had to fix my pregnancy problem has worked. Because I want to have a baby, before its to late." Her cheeks flushed a little red, and she felt like a school girl asking to go home because she didn't like the school.

" Of courssse my dear. " The gorn said standing up and closing the door over as he indicated to his office's bio bed. " Let'sss take a look ssshall we."

Getting on the bed, Lia lay down and waited. "Um Doc, I want to know. Even if its bad news, I want and need to know." She waited for the Gorn to either start or give further instructions.

Sthilg offered his hand for a reassuring squeeze before he nodded and began typing. The computer lit up as he got to work looking at a hologram of the Commanders's reproductive system. Clicking his tongue from side to side he gave her a reassuring yet stern look. " Well, it's worssse than what I wasss hoping, better than what I feared." He said calmly as he let her see the hologram.

" We have around forty ssseven per cent tisssssue regeneration of your cervix, uterusss and forty-two per cent regeneration of your fallopian tubes. We are in the zone where you can conceive and carry a child, but it will be very risssky." he said with the same calm tone.

Checking a sob in her throat, Lia nodded. "So for now it would be better not to conceive right? How long do you think it may take and will I be able to have a child when it finally mends?" The news would have to be passed to Gary, maybe he would wait a bit longer. Lia knew better than push this to far to early, she certainly didn't want a repeat of Angel.

" Well, my dear with the necessssary material from you and the commander I could have an embryo ready for implantation asss sssoon asss it'sss healed to acceptable levels. " Sthilg said camaly.

Lia's eye's looked at the CMO, "Could I talk to my husband about it? I'm not sure he wants to go that rout, and it has to be the both of us that makes the final choice." She had so wanted to do this just between herself and Gary, but as she had told Gary. It depended on what the CMO said, and right now he was saying wait. "If we went your way, how long long would we have to wait?" Lia had learned to trust Sthilg, and if he urged caution it was for a reason.

" Take asss long asss you and Gary need my dear." Stilg said ressuringly. " Asss for how long any where between three monthsss though if we want to be totally sssafe I would recommend a year."

Taking in a deep breath, Lia now looked at the CMO. "Another year? Guess if I want the cream, I'm gonna have to put up with the sour milk for now." She smiled at the Gorn, "I suppose while I'm here, I'd better get a check up. That's if you don't mind and aren't busy of course."

" Off courssse I can get it done now." The gorn said as he began typing again. " Ssso how have thingsss been for you my friend."

Lia smiled, "Well things at work seem to be becoming more difficult, but that could be outside causes. Married life is going along great. Except for the child thing, but Gary knew the problem before we tied the knot." She waited for the next question, perhaps motherhood wasn't to be.

" You and Gary will make wonderful parentsss when the time comesss. You know there is the artificial womb option if you don't want to wait." Sthilg added.

Shaking her head, Lia smiled. "I want to do it right, using an artificial womb would take away from the whole experience." She looked towards the CMO and continued, "But thanks for the suggestion, if push comes to shove Gary might want to go that way. But I'd like to talk it out with him first, but we haven't thought about it just yet."

The gorn nodded as he gave her a polite " I understand."

"So Doc, have you found anything I should know about? I feel ok, except for being tired once in a while." Lia waited for the CMO to tell her what, if anything he'd found.

" Nothing that a relaxing bath, warm herbal tea and an early night won't fix." He replied reassuringly.

Lia smiled, "Would that be a western style bath, or a Japanese style bath? And I drink Japanese green tea most day's, but is there some other herbal tea I should know about?"

" I'm afraid I'm not sssure of the difference between a jpaanessse bath and a wesssstern bath. " The gorn said as he wrote something down on the padd. " Asss for the tea I sssugessst thisss brand. It's a mixture of vulcan and my own peoplesss."

Checking the PaDD, Lia tilted her head. "Can't say I've heard of it Doc, has it got a name so I could ask the replicator for it?" She stood up and waited to see if the CMO wanted her to do anything else, "So, besides waiting another year to get pregnant. Do I have a clear bill of health?"

The gorn nodded. " Clean bill of health. Your fit for duty."

Lia dipped her head in thanks and headed for the door, then she stopped. "Say Doc, I know its going to take a year. But do you think there's any chance it might heal sooner, these things sometimes suddenly do that right?"

" There a chance. " the reptile replied with an honest smile on his face.

A faint smile appeared on Lia's face, "Can't ask for more than that." She did a quick bow towards the CMO, then turned and left.
