I Believe

Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Gary and Lia's Quarters
Timeline: After Wakizashi, What's it to Ya?
634 words - 1.3 OF Standard Post Measure

Gary was in his office in his and Lia's quarters. He was thinking of the discussion Lia, and he had about using a surrogate to have a baby. Their
baby. He understood Lia's position about her wanting to carry the baby and
he certainly, would and could never fault her for that. She had a strong argument for feeling like she did. Those nine months she carried the baby
were priceless in terms of bonding between mother and child.

More importantly, as much as he wanted them to have a child, he could
wait. Once the baby was born, their lives would be forever changed for
the better. They would no longer be a couple but a family. The Taylors,
that simple thought filled him with joy and brought a smile to his face.
He also knew that if it had been Caitlin, he would feel exactly as he did
now. He had loved Cailin fiercely, their life together was all too brief. They
had talked in the abstract of having children but nothing definite. Then she
was gone, snuffed out like a candle in the wind. He didn't think he would ever love anyone like he did Caitlin, but he did. He loved Lia just as fiercely, deeply and passionately and because he did and he respected her as well, he could and would wait and wait happily. For Lia was his world, his life.

He leaned back in his chair. To have been blessed with the love of two remarkable women. Both proud, intelligent, stubborn women who loved with every fiber of their being and would not stand or accept half measures. They believed in doing the best they could and expected the same effort from everyone else. He believed with all his heart, that waiting was the right choice, they would have their child and Lia would carry it to full term. As he reflected on the past and looked eagerly towards the future he thought of a song. "Computer, play I Believe in You by Don Williams." As the first notes of the song began to play, he believed in Lia and himself, their decision to wait and that it would all work out for the best. He believed it as sure as there were stars in the sky.

I don't believe in superstars
Organic food and foreign cars
I don't believe the price of gold
The certainty of growing old
That right is right and left is wrong
That north and south can't get along
That east is east and west is west
And being first is always best
But I believe in love
I believe in babies
I believe in mom and dad
And I believe in you
Well I don't believe that heaven waits
For only those who congregate
I like to think of God as love
He's down below, he's up above
He's watching people everywhere
He knows who does and doesn't care
And I'm an ordinary man
Sometimes I wonder who I am
But I believe in love
I believe in music
I believe in magic
And I believe in you
I know with all my certainty
What's going on with you and me
Is a good thing
It's true, I believe in you
I don't believe virginity
Is as common as it used to be
In working days and sleeping nights
That black is black and white is white
That Superman and Robin Hood
Are still alive in Hollywood
That gasoline's in short supply
The rising cost of getting by
But I believe in love
I believe in old folks
I believe in children
I believe in you
I believe in love
I believe in babies
I believe in mom and dad
And I believe in you
