MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Gary and Lia's Quarters
Timeline: After I Believe
617 words - 1.2 OF Standard Post Measure
Gary was in Lia and his quarters. He had just finished his duty shift and arrived home. He was in a melancholy mood and wasn't sure why. The shift hadn't been particularly hard or taxing. He just felt not sad but pensive and it bothered him. His marriage to Lia couldn't be better or stronger. He had a partner that loved and supported him as he did her. He smiled, even when they disagreed (which was infrequently) They were civil and never stayed mad. They were adults for goodness' sake not eight year olds.
He got up and went into the kitchen, got himself a glass of water and a couple of chicken wings. As he leaned against the counter and nibbled on the wings, he visited the reason for his mood. Work was good, his relationship with Phoenix was good, solid and strong. There were no crew issues to speak of other than Arri and her counseling sessions that Alicia and Savar were conducting with her and those looked like they would continue into the foreseeable future.
Then he had it, it had come to him out of the blue. Catlin or rather Catlin was the answer. With all this talk of having a baby and telling, showing Lia how much he loved her, he realized he hadn't been this demonstrative with Catlin. he loved her and she knew it, but he hadn't bought gifts like he did for Lia. Perhaps it was because they had been young and were just starting out. Now he felt terribly guilty. Oh, he bought Catlin gifts, wedding, birthday and Christmas but not spur of the moment or 'just because' gifts at least not in the quantity he got them for Lia. He thought on that. Maybe it was because they were young, and he thought he would have time later to buy gifts for Catlin. But he never got the time as she died, and he would never get the chance to do it now.
He felt like he had cheated Catlin. Not physically but in showing the true depths of his love for her. Not that she ever complained. That wasn't Catlin's way. Now, older and hopefully wiser, he knew tomorrow was never promised and he wanted Lia to know just how much he loved her. He didn't want Lia to think he took her for granted. He had just the gift for her. It wasn't physical but it was more substantial, more meaningful as it reflected his feelings for her. It showed the depth of his love for her. He chuckled softly, maybe he was a romantic sot like Lia claimed. "Computer, play Baby, I'm Yours by Barbara Lewis." An instant later the first soulful notes filled their quarters.
Baby, I'm yours (baby, I'm yours)
And I'll be yours (yours) until the stars fall from the sky
Yours (yours) until the rivers all run dry
In other words, until I die
Baby, I'm yours (baby, I'm yours)
And I'll be yours (yours) until the sun no longer shines
Yours (yours) until the poets run out of rhyme
In other words, until the end of time
I'm gonna stay right here by your side
And do my best to keep you satisfied
Nothin' in the world could drive me away
Every day, you'll hear me say
Baby, I'm yours (baby, I'm yours)
And I'll be yours (yours) until two and two is three
Yours (yours) until the mountain crumbles to the sea
In other words, until the eternity
Baby, I'm yours (ooh)
'Til the stars fall from the sky
(Baby, I'm yours)
'Til the rivers all run dry
(Baby, I'm yours)
