Consul Andrinn Orin was standing in the middle of an spartan bedroom in the apartment that he had been given while he was back on Earth, working as a part of the Trill Diplomatic Attachment to the Federation. While for some people, this would have been an exciting time, it was a bit of melancholy for Andrinn.
Just a few weeks prior to Andrinn accepting a position onboard the USS Elysium, Andrinn was engaged to someone that he saw himself getting....older with. While El-Aurians didn't age the same way as other humanoids within the Milky Way Galaxy, they still aged and Andrinn had thought that he had found someone to spend a lifetime with.
But, that wasn't the case, as the man moved out and broke up with Andrinn. Devastating doesn't even begin to describe a part of the emotions that Andrinn was feeling in the time after the breakup. However, the advice that his ex gave him was something that turned out to be fruitful. It helped Andrinn to find a new position and a way to get back into Starfleet.
While his commission had only been put on hold, it had been quite some time since Andrinn went through the Academy. He didn't even have to go through a cadet cruise like the other cadets because of all of the lifetimes of experience that he already had. That was also back in the 23rd century, so it was much more like the Wild West of the universe when he went through the Academy.
Hearing some noises from outside his old apartment brought Andrinn back to reality. He realized that he was still standing in the empty bedroom, looking around like an idiot.
It gave Andrinn a moment to realize that there were a few pictures that somehow escaped both him and the movers. Andrinn had his personal effects sent back to Trill to his family's estate near the capital City. Stepping towards the pictures and bending over to pick them up, Andrinn chuckled as he saw pictures from various points in lifetime.
The first picture was from his Academy graduation, where he was standing with several of his classmates from the Diplomatic Corps. They were standing out on the complex outside of the Diplomatic Classrooms on the Academy Campus. They were acting like total goofballs and they were all wearing their Starfleet uniforms. The maroon colored ones with Ensign pips on the one shoulder straps.
Back when he first started, it was truly an interesting time to be a diplomat because of everything that was happening within the galaxy as a whole. The Klingon peace treaty with Khitomer, the eventual Tomad Incident with the Romulans that lead to the forming of the Treaty of Algeron, amongst other things.
Andrinn was surprised that anyone made it out of the 23rd century with the way the diplomats worked.
However, the second picture was from a date that he took Michael out on. It was one of the first times that Andrinn truly experienced life on Earth, as he hadn't had much time to spend off the Federation and Starfleet Instillations in San Francisco. They had gone to the Great Wall of China, which was supposed to be one of the largest man made objects that could be seen from Earth's orbit.
Andrinn didn't believe Michael when he said that, but indulged him when he talked about it and other facts from around United Earth.
The third picture was one that truly shocked Andrinn and forced him to sit down before he went down. It was a picture from when Andrinn was just a teenager and it was the boy he began dating when he was in High School. Andrinn had forgotten about this picture because it was before he was joined with the Orin symbiant and it was such a long time ago.
Tears welled up into Andrinn's eyes, causing him to vigorously wipe them away with the sleeve of his new uniform. Andrinn had forgotten how happy that he was with Tobin. Not only that, but this picture was taken right before the shuttle accident that took the life of Andrinn's first true love.
Tobin was one of the first people outside of his family that didn't spat slurs towards Andrinn and that's part of the allure that drew Andrinn towards him. The first few weeks, Andrinn would follow Tobin around like a lost puppy dog and Tobin would just smile as they walked together, since they lived up the street from one another.
Eventually, Tobin just reached his hand out one day and offered it up to Andrinn, who gladly accepted it. Eventually, they started dating and all was good.
There was just so many memories that were flooding back as Andrinn looked through the last few photos. They ranged from his childhood to more modern times, all of which were good memories mixed with a pang of melancholy.
Finally getting up from the floor and looking around at the bedroom once more, Andrinn smiled gently and said to himself, "Thank you for all the memories gents. You made me....me."
Gently clutching the pictures in his hands, Andrinn walked out of his bedroom towards the shuttleyard that had the shuttle waiting to him to USS Elysium. Andrinn was glad that he stopped for one more look before heading out or he would have missed the pictures that meant so much to him.
Andrinn stepped onto the shuttle and fired up the Impulse Engines before closing the back hatch and taking off to the future that was awaiting for him out there in the cosmos.

Oh dear, one does feel for the man. The pain and the loss he has experienced. The drama that is his life now. So much uncertainty and doubt. It all comes through brilliantly.
