EPR: What is your role on the Elysium? And what does it entail?
RIN: I am Elysium’s chief of intelligence, which means I supervise the team which processes most information not distinctly relevant to other departments such as Science. We are most active when the ship is on a mission, collecting information in real time to provide a larger picture of events to the Captain and other relevant officers.
EPR: What made you choose that line of work?
RIN: Apparently, I’ve always have a head for numbers. I originally entered Starfleet as a Strategic Operations officer. Perhaps I had more grandiose plans for myself and my career. However, when I rejoined Starfleet, my ability to process and analyze large quantities of data made me more suitable for Intelligence work.
I think I would have been happy in numerous different positions, but here is where I thrive. This is where my skills are most valuable.
EPR:How do you handle the pressure that comes with being a Starfleet officer?
RIN: I actually do my best when under pressure. It comes with a sense of focus and purpose. But it can leave one exhausted afterward. My big escape has always been music. Violin. Just something I play for myself. I have no real interest in playing for an audience. That almost…cheapens it? It’s not supposed to have practical purpose. It’s not meant to be judged. It’s just for me, and I’m judgey enough as it is.
I’m primarily interested in human compositions, a throwback to earlier days. It’s an odd feeling, acting on past events you can’t remember. But maybe it’ll unlock some of those memories. I’m ready to do that now. For a long time I wasn’t.
EPR: What would you say to a cadet aspiring to do what you do?
RIN: Forget the holovids depicting this as a glamourous job. It’s not. Not even field work. But most of us spend most of our time pouring over data.
Think outside the box. You’re going up against people who do not want their operations and motives known. They will obscure their actions in accordance with how they think we will look for them, so we need to be creative, approach the issue from a different direction than what the enemy assumed.
Math skills, political science, critical thinking, those are all skills to focus on. Computer science if that is a branch you’d like to pursue.
And stop goofing off. Intelligence officers handle highly classified documents, and Starfleet doesn’t hand out those kind of clearances to goofballs. Small infractions can haunt your career.
EPR: What is your favorite memory of your time at the academy?
RIN: I don’t have any memories of Academy. What I do have is pictures of friends, and of the man who became my husband. And the look on my face when I am with him is so much different than my expressions with others. I wish I could remember those days.
EPR: Do you have any funny tales to tell about your time on the USS Elysium?
RIN: Haven’t you heard? Intelligence officers have their sense of humor removed upon entrance into the department.

Some very genuine comments here. While I read it I could hear and see in my mind's eye this scene. And it came across very easily and effortlessly. Nicely done.
