Vanessa walked with Kyle Reece. "So, Kyle. This... Manhattan. How in the name of the Ascendants do so many people live close to each other.. and not feel the overwhelming urge to tear each others eyes out?"
As they walked through Times Square towards the nearest access to the underground rail system, Kyle chuckled. "Seriously? I know the Alindari have major cities on your new homeworld. Aren't your population numbers still climbing?"
As he asked the question, they stepped onto the escalator and moved underground.
"Sena Alindar's cities are more dispersed. We build our cities around nature. They are planned as ecological, and architectural wonders. Places of inspiration and beauty." Vanessa noted. "And yes our population has recovered greatly since I was born. Thank the ascendants our genetic imprint was our citizen identification in the old Imperium."
Kyle nodded as he listened. A few moments later, they had boarded the Long Island Rail Road, or LIRR, and had settled in for the thirty minute ride out to the Island. "Well, Humans didn't start to see the logic in that kind of design until shortly before the last World War. Since then, any new construction has either built upon the old, or, if in a new area, been designed to lit our pollution footprint to practically zero." His eyes wandered out the windows as the various towns and villiages that he used to roam through, started to flash by as the train reemerged from under the East River and into Queens.
Vanessa examined the area. "So this is where you grew up, Kyle Reece? I can certainly see your younger self getting into all sorts of mischief around these parts." She noted. "I wonder if being here would be a bad influence on you?"
Chuckling softly, Kyle reached over to take hold of Vanessa's left hand. "You know, you don't have to keep referring to me vy my full name, sweetheart. We have enjoyed each other naked, afterall." He gave her a flirty wink as he spoke. "As for what mischief I may or may not have gotten into, of the four of us, Alexandria was the more mischievous one. Her three older brothers were simply her protective muscle." He chuckled softly at the memory.
"Now you're my protective muscle." She said with a grin, "And I look forward to meeting Alexandria. She sounds like a fine sister for you." Vanessa noted. "Probably kept you wits sharp."
Kyle chuckled as he reached over to grasp Vanessa's hand. "Yeah, she kept all three of us on our toes."
"Now, on to your parents, my love. I hope they pass muster." Vanessa noted.
Kyle arched an eyebrow as the train came to a stop at their destination. "Careful, sweetheart. If anyone is going to need to pass muster, it'll be you to them, not the other way around."
"How difficult could it be?" Vanessa noted with a smirk.
Kyle tipped his head and shrugged. "The last woman I was with, we were engaged. She died, then came back to life, then left me in pieces. I imagine, as you are the first woman I've been with since then, you'll have your work cut out for you. Afterall, at two minutes older, I am my mother's first born and her baby." He grinned and chuckled.
She grabbed him. "The Alindari resisted the Borg... I would fight through oblivion and hell itself for you."
Kyle smiled warmly before pulling Vanessa into a loving embrace and kissing her. A few beats later, he pressed his forehead lightly to hers as he responded. "I know that, sweetheart. You forget, I know what it means to be loved by an Alindari. My family, though, doesn't. Elizabeth and I dated for two years, then we were engaged for two weeks before she was killed, then another two months after she came back, before she broke my heart and walked away. My whole family knew and loved her. So far, you've only met my baby brother. It'll take time for you to win them over." He kissed her again before looking deep into her eyes and adding, "I have no doubt that you will be successful. Just...don't try to rush it with them. Trust me."
"So In essence... I am negotiating with people like the Lissepians. Best to let them move things along first." Vanessa noted. "But get too forward, and they'll walk out of the room."
Kyle puffed out his cheeks slightly as he considered Vanessa's words. "Well...yyyyeah...I guess." He then shook his head. "Don't come at them like a diplomat. Just be yourself. If you try to work them, they will see it and you'll just shoot yourself in the foot. Be calm, be polite, be...the beautiful, intelligent, funny woman that I fell in love with. You show them that Vanessa, and they see how both you are with me and we are together, and it'll be the first step to the prize."
Vanessa smiled and nodded. "After you, my love."
Smiling at his love, Kyle took her hand and led her to the cab stand. They could have easily just beamed to his parent's home, but, he wanted to let Vanessa see where he grew up.
Less than ten minutes after getting off the train, their cab pulled up in front of his childhood home. After getting out, he took Vanessa's hand again and led her up the front walk, onto the stoop, and then hecrang the door bell.
A few beats later, the door opened, and an older man, who had to be Kyle's father by his similar features, froze for a beat, then smiled broadly and stepped forward to wrap his oldest child in a strong bear hug. "Kyle! My boy!! Why didn't you tell us you were coming?!"
From inside the house, a woman's voice could be heard. "Who is it Jackie?"
Jackson released his hold enough to look back into the house. "It's Kyle, sweetheart!" He then noticed the very attractive young woman standing behind Kyle, the the steps of the stoop. He grinned as he added, "And he has a young lady with him!"
There was the sound of rustling in the house, then footfalls of someone rushing excitedly to the front door. "My baby boy!" EMmma Rose called out as she hurried forward, arms outstretched, to wrap her oldest in a loving, motherly embrace.
"Hey, Pop," Kyle replied as his father held him in a strong embrace. He then grinned happily, hearing his mother, who was a foot shorter than he was, scurry over and wrap him in an embrace that could rival his father's.
"Mama," he said softly as he leaned down to embrace her with the same amount of affection.
After a few beats, mother and son released one another and Emma looked over at the attractive blonde who was standing behind her son. "Hello, my dear. I am Kyke's mother, Emma Rose, this is his father, Jackson. What is your name?
Kyle was about to do the introductions, but, just smiled as his mother, as usual, beat him to it.
Vanessa smiled. "My name is Vanessa Alcean an Vantar." She noted. "It is indeed a pleasure, Mrs. Rose. I have been looking forward to meeting the parents of the man I love for some time." Vanessa always had a very diplomatic tone when she met new people, she couldn't help it. Alindari always prided themselves with personifying excellence and there was nothing mediocre about Vanessa.
Emma smiled, understanding Vanessa's error. "No, my dear, my name is Emma Rose Reece. I usually go by my first and middle names when I first meet someone." She then reached out and took gentle hold of Vanessa's left arm and, after tucking it under her right arm, pulled the young woman inside. "And how long have you and Kyle known each other, that he's only now bringing you to meet us?"
Kyle sighed softly as he watched the two important women of his life head inside. He knew he was in trouble. Though how much was yet to be determined. He exchanged looks with his father, who grinned in understanding, then wrapped his atm around his son's broad shoulders and pulled him inside as well, closing the door behind them as they went.
By the time the men caught up with the ladies, Emma and Vanessa were already sitting at the kitchen table and Kyle's mother was preparing a pot of water to brew fresh tea.
Vanessa responded. "Both Kyle and I are in Starfleet. We have duties that demand much of our time. And we do these duties with the dedication expected of us." Vanessa noted. "Starfleet is not an easy life, and at times it is difficult to reconcile our personal lives with our professional lives." She noted.
Emma smiled, sensing Vanessa's apparent unease. "It's alright dear, both Kyle's father and I are former Starfleet, our entire family has been, all the way back to the founding. We understand that duty does, and will, get in the way of personal." She smiled softly at Vanessa. "You are a very lovely young woman. You are Alindari, yes?"
"You know of my kind?" Vanessa noted. "Yes indeed. We're quite new to the Federation. When we made first contact, I served as the Alindari Ambassador to Earth until we finally joined a few years ago. I was impressed with working with the Federation Diplomatic Corps and I offered my services to them a year ago. And it has been an eventful time in my life. Humans are fascinating to us." Vanessa noted. "We're literally enamored by all things human. Your art, your history, your drive to better yourself. You should see how much we adore your Christmas holiday. Oh the pagentry.. We simply crave it." She grinned.
Emma nodded and smiled as she lifted the teapot of boiling water from the stove and moved to the table. As she began to pour out four cups, one for each of them, she replied. "Oh yes, Dear," she smiled again. "When Kyle was in the Academy, he met and started seeing a lovely young Alindari woman, Arrianna Salannis an Vantar was her name. She had very lovely eyes, just like yours." She then looked over to her son. "How is Arrianna doing, Kyle? Is she recovering well from that dreadful ordeal she recently went through?"
Kyle nodded, a slightly more somber tone in his voice. "Yes, Mama, Arri is getting better every day. She wanted me to say hello to you both when I got here. She also wanted to say thank you for the well wishes you sent her after her rescue.
Emma nodded and sighed. She knew that life in Starfleet was dangerous. Her boys had certainly been through their fair share of pain and heartache over the years.
Shaking the hurtful thoughts from her mind, Emma looked back over at Vanessa and smiled. "A full Ambassador at such a young age! That is very impressive, Vanessa. Your parents must be very proud of you. As for Christmas, yes, we do enjoy it in this house. Kyle's father starts decorating the exterior on December first. And, while he is working outside, I do all the decorating inside. When our children were younger, they all loved it when the boxes of decorations were brought out of storage."
"You should see our capital city during the holidays." Vanessa noted. "As for Arrianna.. My cousin is a complex woman. It's a wonder she hasn't given up. She's dealing with a lot of trauma. And also it's not unusual for my people to excel in the Academic arena. It's the physical arena we sometimes lack in." Vanessa noted. "Our world is about half earth gravity."
"Your cousin?" Emma smiled warmly. "I had no idea, my dear! Her abduction must have been very painful for you to endure as well." She reached across the table and placed a soft, warm hand atop of Vanessa's. "I am glad that she has been brought back. Please, let her know that if she needs anything, she only needs to call us."
As the two of them spoke, Kyle and his father prepared their teas, then offered the ingredients to the ladies.
"What happened to Arrianna is chilling." Vanessa noted. "I read the report and I wish I didn't read it afterwards. Empress Alena is keeping the more horrendous details as 'need to know.' Particularly because this is now a Starfleet and an Imperial Guard matter. The Guard has been ordered to cooperate in finding the man who tortured Arrianna; Micheal Bishop, and bring him in to face justice. And the guard never ever relents." Vanessa mentioned. "Micheal Bishop made another fatal err. Arrianna's mother, my aunt is a commander in the Imperial Guard. She'll run that man down for twenty years if necessary and deliver him either dead or alive to the Federation."
Jackson nodded, a grin look on his face. "Well, I hope they find the bastard and put an end to him before he is able to hurt anyone else!"
Emma put her hand atop her husband's in a silent manner to calm him down, knowing his blood pressure needed to stay low.
"They will, Pop," Kyle said to his father. They already have his boss in custody and imprisoned. It's only a matter to time now before this Micheal Bishop asshole is caught as well."
The family enjoyed the rest of the evening, then Kyle and Vanessa said goodnight and returned to the Elysium. Afterwards, as they entered his cabin, he said, "I think they liked you, Sweetheart."
"I just... was honest," Vanessa noted. "No sense beating around the bush." She grabbed him and kissed him rather forcibly. "I did not exaggerate how much love Alindari show their partners." She smiled softly.
After her deep kiss, Kyle briefly felt a little winded. He quickly recovered though and, after reaching down to grab her ass, he lifted Vanessa up and carried her to his bed. "And I'm not exaggerating when I say that I know fully how deep that love goes." As the doors to his bedroom started to close, he tossed her onto his bed.
