Jason stood in the middle of the holodeck. He was practicing every chance he got for the Starfleet Dance Contest. Lana was still on duty, so he was here alone practicing but it wasn't the same he needed someone to dance with to get the steps and moves down correctly for he wanted Lana and himself to win the contest. He thought of someone he had always wanted to dance with. He had seen her in an old video, and he thought she was an amazing dancer. Anyone who could hold their own with the legendary Fred Astaire had to be better than good.

"Computer, recreate an old night club circa 1940's empty except for the orchestra practicing." An instant late the night club appeared around him, and he smiled with approval, now for the most important part. "Computer, recreate Rita Hayworth in a dress again circa 1940's." Nanoseconds later Rita stood there in a beautiful red dress smiling at him, her auburn hair flowing down to just above her shoulders "Miss Hayworth.'' He stammered "This is an honor I wonder if I could get you to dance with me to the Shorty George." She laughed and it was like the tinkling of bells. She extended her hand to him. "It would be my pleasure good sir. Please lead on." Her voice as smooth as melted butter.

Jason took her hand led her to the middle of the dance floor. He nodded to the band, "Play the Shorty George guys." As the band started to play, he began to move to the rhythm, then he began to sing.

Just heard of the Shorty George
Got word of the Shorty George
Seems that it's a kind of jig
Named for someone about so big
He rambles around the town
Preambles around the town
Then stops on a crowded street
'N beats his feet till his feet is beat

So catch-on to "Shorty George"
And latch onto "Shorty George"
Good people I'm tellin' you
"Shorty George" is the dance to do.

As he danced and sung, Rita joined him and moved in perfect time with him even singing some of the song herself. They danced and spun, glided across the floor. A huge smile on his face, he was dancing with Rita Hayworth! It was a dream come true. The dance was complex and exhausting, but they went through it effortlessly... at least Rita did. Jason thought he may have misstepped once or twice, but Rita covered for him. As the song wound down, she threw her arms around his neck and danced off the floor. As the song was finished, he stopped and smiled at her. "That was amazing! You were amazing! Thank you so much!" He gushed as her. Rita smiled patiently as he babbled on and when he finished, she spoke. "The honor was mine. Your very good. Almost Fred Astaire good. With some more practice, you will be." He blinked at her, "What?" He replied realizing how stupid he sounded. "You heard me. Keep practicing and anytime you need me just whistle. You do know how to whistle don't you?" She laughed and turned and walked away. In a moment she was gone, leaving Jason standing there. * I danced with Rita Hayworth! * He thought. Wait till he told Lana! Then shaking his head, a smile still on his face, he went back to practicing.
