Cassia had to get medically cleared to commence duty so after organising her new office she headed to medical. Entering she found a nurse and asked for a doctor to do her physical. The nurse guided her to a chair and made her sit down while she went and fetched a doctor.

Kara was on duty in Medical, seeing someone waiting she offered a polite smile as she walked over to greet her. “Hi there, I’m Kara. Are you here to see anyone in particular, or can I help you?”

"Hi, I am Lieutenant Cassia Cavendish, I am one of the academy instructors, here for my boarding exam." Cassia said.

Kara nodded. “If you’d like to follow me I can sort that for you?” She motioned to the closest biobed.

Cassia nodded. "Sure that would be great"

“Make yourself comfortable” Kara motioned to the biobed as they walked over to it. Picking up a medical tricorder Kara tapped the screen. “So any recent injuries, or illnesses I should be aware of?”

Cassia sat on the biobed. "Um... i spent the last 12 months or do on Earth at Starfleet medical due to a breakdown. "

Kara nodded. “Okay, let me take a look at your medical record it’ll save any awkward questions.” She smiled warmly as she walked over to the nearest screen to pull up Cassia’s records. “Right, okay” she nodded. “So we need to check your weight to start with.”

Cassia nodded. "I eat well, the replicator makes all my meals with the required nutrients and such. I even snack between meals. I am not sure why my weight never moves." She sighed and let the doctor do the scan.

“Perhaps it’s more a problem with your metabolism” Kara offered a smile. “It might be that you’re burning through calories and nutrients faster than your body can take them in. If that’s the case then we can adjust your diet to compensate, as well as medicate in the short term. I’d need to run that past Doctor Sthilg first though. We wouldn’t want your weight going the other way.”

"Okay that makes sense." Cassia replied with a small smile.

Kara smiled warmly. “I’m sorry about what happened to you, I see from your records that you were pregnant. According to my scans there’s no reason why you wouldn’t be able to have another child.” She paused. “I have a daughter, she’s part Klingon. Born of an...unwanted experience with some Klingon’s. She means the universe to me.”

Cassia went pale at the conversation. "Thank you" she got out. It was a difficult thing to talk about, and one the counselors had struggled to get her to discuss but she knew there was no harm meant by this doctor speaking of it. "Maybe one day"

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to bring up bad memories” Kara offered an understanding smile. “If you ever need someone to talk to, just as a friend please feel free to drop by. I’m pretty new onboard too so I haven’t made that many friends yet.”

"Thank you." Cassia said softly. "I will keep that in mind" her tone was honest and she would. But the emotions of telling Nicholas and dredging them up were still raw.

“Have you arranged to speak with one of our Counsellors?” Kara tapped the tricorder she was holding, Cassia’s blood pressure was up a little, but it wasn’t surprising given their conversation.

"Yes, I have an appointment tomorrow." Cassia replied. "Part of my conditions to return to work."

Kara nodded. “That’s good. The Counselling staff onboard are wonderful people.” She smiled as she looked at her readings. “Well your readings are looking okay. You already know you’re weight is below where it should be, we’ll carry on monitoring that. All in all I’m happy to pass you for duty.”

Cassia smiled. "Thank you, I appreciate it." she said as she slid from the bio bed.

“Before you go, I’d best take some blood samples. Does it bother you at all?”

Cassia shook her head. "No I have been poked and prodded by half of Starfleet medical these past few years, go ahead, take the samples"

Kara nodded, walking over to a tray of hyposprays on the side she picked one up and a couple of empty refills and brought them back. “I’ll make this quick I promise.” She gently pressed it to Cassia’s arm and took the first blood sample. “One more and we’re done.” She exchanged cartridges and took another sample.

Cassia didn't even flinch at the sample taking. She stood there and waited. She was so used to it it barely registered. "Take as many as needed, just leave me enough to be able to walk" she quipped.

Kara grinned. “Trust me that’s plenty! It’ll give us a current up-to-date blood grouping, and sample for testing. I’m not anticipating any problems.”

"This is Starfleet, when have problems been anticipated?"

“Good point!” Kara grinned. “Anyway I’m all done so you’re free to go.”

Cassia smiled "Thank you for this Kara."

“My pleasure” Kara smiled warmly. “Any problems come back and see us.”

Cassia nodded and headed off to her duty station.
