Kyle sat on the veranda of the tastfully built villa that he and his family had moved into, following its completion, eight years prior. It was a beautiful, albeit warm, fall morning.

Natsuko came out, enjoying the warmer weather. The so called fall was a brilliant time of year. "Hello darling" she said softly.

Kyle looked over at the woman who owned his heart and soul, and smiled warmly. "Good morning, my love. You're looking better. Has the fever finally broke?" He stood up and moved over to embrace her.

She went to him with a small smile. "Yes, I feel much better thank you."

Kyle held onto his wife for several beats. Shortly after they made landfall here, in the Dutch Colonies, Natsuko came down with the El Aurian equivalent to a head cold. Though more serious.

The gland that controls her cocoon forming had become inflamed somehow. For nearly two weeks, she was in bed with high fevers. As they couldn't bring in a human doctor, Kyle and Veronika had done what they could.

Thankfully, it seemed that their ministrations had helped.

"I am happy to see you on your feet again, my love."

Natsuko leaned into him. "I am glad to be back on them." She admitted. Bed rest had not agreed with her at all.

He looked in her eyes, love and concern clearly apparent in his. "You had me worried there, my love." He gently leaned down, placing his forehead to hers.

It had worried her too. It was rare for them to be sick at all. Even the children when little had rarely been sick. She smiled softly. "This is nice." she said softly

Kyle grinned softly. "First time we have been alone in our home since before Veronika was born." He chuckled and scooped her up into his arms, then carried her over to the chair he had been sitting in and sat down, holding Natsuko against him.

She snuggled against him. "Ah yes the quiet good old days" she joked.

He chuckled softly, then gently kissed her. "I think, once Catalina is ready to stand on her feet, you and I should return to Japan, possibly to stay. We can stay out of sight there, our followers there are our most loyal afterall."

"Hmm a good idea. 6 children are enough right?" she kissed him gently back.

He made soft sounds as he tasted his wife's lips. "If you feel that six is enough, my love, then it is. As I have never had to carry any of them to term and had my body changed by them, I have always felt lucky for how ever many you wanted to have."

"hmm maybe one day I might want more, but 6 currently is more than enough." she nuzzled his neck with her lips. "That said I have always enjoyed creating them with you."

A soft growl rumbled in his broad chest. "If you're not careful there, we might be making a new one sooner rather than later."

She laughed softly "It has been nearly 30 years since our last. But I agree lets have some us time."

"Mmmm," he grinned hungrily. "I do love the sound of that." He then reached up, taking gentle hold of the left side of her face, and pulled her in for a deep kiss.

Natsuko let herself fall into the kiss that even now, hundreds of years later, still caused her to melt.

As they continued to kiss, Kyle slow slid his right hand down from Natsuko's face and over her body, feeling the curves that he knew so well, through her thin sleep shirt.

"Hmmm... if the children come out here and find us like this," she breathed against his lips.

Kyle moved his kisses to the right side of her neck. "Then they will see that we still desire each other just as much as we have since long before they all were born."

"Yes, that is true but, do we need to scar them for the rest of their lives?"

This caused him to stop and turn his head to look up into her beautiful almond-shaped eyes. "After all these years, you are still protecting others from the beast inside of me." He smirked playfully at her as her spoke.

"Well, that beast is for me alone," she whispered.

Hearing the tone of her voice, Kyle was suddenly feeling very aroused. "I think it's time that I took you back your bed, Lady Cragen."

"hmm really?" she asked impishly. "But I am not tired.."

Kyle chuckled darkly as he stood up, still holding Natsuko in his arms. "Who said you'd be sleeping?" He growled hungrily at her. He then carried her back inside and spent the next several hours keeping her wide awake.

When they finally came down from their fun, Natsuko lay looking out the window of their chamber to the encroaching evening. "It's nice here" she said softly.

Curled up behind Natsuko, Kyle held her gently back against his chest. "Yes, it seems much more peaceful than either France or the American Colonies were." He gently kissed the side of her neck, not to resume anything, but to be tender with her. "Though, nowhere was more peaceful, than our castle back home."

She nodded. "Yes, we should definitely go back there, I miss seeing you dressed in Traditional clothes."

He grinned as he squeezed his arms around her slightly, before loosening some and chuckling. "You just enjoy the easier access to my body, beloved."

"Hmm true, but the house there is much more.... private for us." She shifted and faced him.

He nodded, knowing what she meant. He loosened his hold, allowing her the freedom to move to face him. He looked down at her with a soft grin. "I love you."

"I love you too," she replied. "The fates, Gods, whatever, knew what they were doing when they put me in your path."

He leaned down and kissed her gently, before pulling back and replying. "What's to say you were put in my path? I traveled around the world and crossed your path, remember? Perhaps they felt that you needed a champion without equal."

"Well I have that for sure." she said softly. "A very good champion."

He looked down at Natsuko, pure devotion in his eyes. "And I will be until the end of my days, my beautiful wife."

She knew that, they had been together for centuries now, and though they had their disagreements, they had always worked them out together. She snuggled closer and said softly "We are truly blessed Love you know."

"I know," he agreed softly. "Though, I dare say I got the lion's share of deal. Not only did you give me a beautiful family, you saved me from my inner darkness. Who knows where I'd be today had we not crossed paths." He smiled and added, "Guess that makes you my champion."

"No, it makes me your wife," she whispered.

Still smiling, Kyle nodded. "And I wouldn't want anyone else in that role, my love."

"Good. Cause as you know, I do not share well." They had, over the years, had faced down matrons within the various high societies who had been looking for a fling with a married man. And Natsuko had always won.

"Nor do I," he growled possessively. There had been more than one man who had stared at Natsuko like they wanted to dominate her. He had made sure each one knew that they had best look elsewhere.

Content, she snuggled against him. They had wonderful grown children, a number of safe havens out there, and they had each other. She was content.

Happy and calm, Kyle held onto Natsuko. He closed his eyes and enjoyed her closeness.

"We should get dressed for dinner right?" She asked softly not wanting to move.

Kyle made a playfully rude noise. "I think we can skip one dinner with our children. They can fend for themselves."

"Good" She purred.

For the rest of the day and night, wife and husband enjoyed their alone time, the first time they truly had taken any since Russia.

The next morning, as the sun started to rise, they both sat out on the veranda, Natsuko sitting between Kyle's legs, a large blanket wrapped around them both.

Natsuko was happy to sit there with him at her back. "Have you been into the town lately?"

Inhaling deeply, Kyle slowly exhaled a content sigh. Then, "A few days ago, my love. To get a few supplies ND check on the status of the humans around us. I don't want any surprises to our safety here." He gently kissed the side of her head. "Why? Would you like to go down?"

"Maybe in a few days. They will be wondering where I am I guess."

Kyle nodded slowly. "Very well, beloved. We shall go down together and spend the day moving through the large marketplace, before stopping somewhere for dinner.

"Sounds like an idea. Be seen, no secretive stuff, though we both know we will need to leave in a few years."

Nodding, Kyle gave his wife a tender squeeze. "I know. It's interesting... of all the humans that would most respect our privacy that we have encountered, the Japanese seem the most accepting. I wonder what makes them so different from the rest of the planet?"

"Manners. Our culture is very much about manners." She still referred to her birth culture as hers despite being an El Aurian.

Kyle chuckled softly as he nodded. "Very true."

A few tropical birds flew overhead, singing their mating songs to one another.

Suddenly, from inside the house, Phillip's voice could be heard. "Mama? Papa? Are you two decent?"

Natsuko sighed. "Typical timing our boy has " she said with a smile. "Hold on Phili!" She called back.

"Yes, Mama," Phillip called back.

Kyle chuckled softly. "He always has had that knack, my love." He opened the blanket and released his hold on Natsuko, then coveted himself back up. "I'll be here, keeping your seat warm for you." He smirked and winked at her.

"Me? He asked for both of us," she grumbled and grabbed her robe.

Kyle chuckled again as he stood up. "Yeah, I was hoping you hadn't caught that part." He gave her an impish grin as he swapped the blanket for the robe that she handed him.

Once dressed Natsuko exited their room to face Philip. "Philip" she said warmly.

Phillip smiled and moved to embrace his mother. Of all of their children, he always seemed the one closest to her. "Mama..." he said happily. "I'm glad you're feeling better!"

She gave him a hug back. "I am indeed feeling much better," she said with a warm tone.

After a few beats, Phillip released his hold and stepped back a pace. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded bit of cloth, it looked like there was something wrapped up inside. Handing it over to his mother, he smiled softly as he said, "Open it, Mama."

She unwrapped as she always did, taking her time with a soft smile. When the necklace laid bare before her she raised her head and gave her son a brilliant smile. "Beautiful Phillip. You are so talented."

Their oldest son smiled brightly at his mother. "I thought it would make it you happy, Mama."

"What's this?" Kyle said softly as he stepped out, appropriately dressed. He moved over behind Natsuko, gently placing his stone hands on her shoulders as he looked over and down at what she was holding.

"Our talented son made me a beautiful necklace," Natsuko replied with a smile.

After looking at the gift, Kyle smiled proudly at their son. "Phillip! I think that's your best one yet!" He moved over to Philip and embraced him warmly.

Phillip returned the hug, then stepped back. "I saw the shells and thought they looked pretty, almost as pretty as Mama."

"And right you are, son. Your mother is the most beautiful woman in the world!" Kyle smiled as he looked back at his wife.

She smiled and shook her head. "Now now gentlemen, let not your sister over hear such words." She teased and placed the necklace around her neck.

Kyke smiled as his eyes moved over his wife. "Truly a gift fit for our Queen!" He then reached over and gently grasped Phillip's right shoulder. "You are a master craftsman, my boy."

Phillip blushed at the praise from his father.

Natsuko agreed. "If we were in Japan, Phillip you could teach others your craft."

The mention of Japan made Phillip's eyes light up. Ever since he had learned to read, he had devoured every bit of literature and history, concerning the country where his parents had not only met, but was their true home here on Earth. He had always wanted to go, but they never seemed to fond themselves back on its shores. "I really want to go there, Mama! Please?!"

"Your father and I were speaking of it earlier, I think in a few years we will head back."

"A few years?" Phillip seemed dejected by the news. His smile fell, as did his eyes.

She smiled. "You know, there is nothing stopping you from going there yourself without us." she suggested.

Hearing that, Phillip's head jerked up and a huge grin spread across his face. "Really?!"

Kyle smiled warmly at their excited son. "Of course. For your protection, though, we will want to send word to have a group of our soldiers travel here, then escort you back to our mountain castle. There, you will be cared for quite well. Then, in a few years, as your mother said, we would join you. What do you say, can you wait a few more months?"

Phillip nodded enthusiastically. "Yes Papa!! Yes I can!!"

Natsuko smiled and gave their son a hug. "Good. Now I suggest you consider what you want to take with you."

Phillips returned the hug, then inspiration seemed to strike. "I know!! I'll take more seashells, stones and gems from here! No one there will have seen them before, right?"

"No they won't have," his mother assured him.

Phillip let out a slight squeal of excitement, then he quickly leaned in and kissed his mother on the cheek, before spinning away and nearly sprinting from the room.

Kyle chuckled softly as he watched their son move. "You think he's excited to go, my love?"

She laughed softly. "Yes. If we offered it to the others, do you think they would be the same?"

He shrugged. "Possibly. While they all have shown an interest in returning to our home at some point, you know Phillip has been eager to do so since he read his first scroll on the Japanese culture."

Natsuko nodded. "He has the most inquisitive mind."

"He gets it from you, my love." Kyle moved to stand behind his wife, wrapping his arms gently around her and lightly kissing the right side of her face.

"So nice to have one of our children take after me," she teased him lightly.

"Come now, my love," he softly cooed in her ear. "You know perfectly well that they all have your soaring intellect and tenacity. Plus, our girls all get their stunning beauty from you as well. Our boys, well, they get their rugged good looks from me." He gave her a lop-sided grin as he finished speaking.

"Hmm yes they are all cursed" She laughed. "Come, let's find the rest of our brood."

He gave her a playful look of shock, then smiled. "Lead on, my Queen." He then opened his arms, so she could move further into the house.

Laughing Natsuko did so. Life was good for their family.
