WHAT IF?

Weeks had passed since Christmas, and with permission from the King, bans had been read and their wedding was over with. They had held it in London, so the King could attend and now, they retreated to Hevers Castle as the court left London for the Summer.
Josie had not changed how she did things. The staff were well paid and they had weekends off unless they were hosting guests. So without the staff around, she was able to teach Kyle more about her time and how things worked.
During their lessons, Kyle had devoured the knowledge being presented to him. When Josie wasn't teaching him about her time, he was using the shuttle's computer to learn about everything else. Within weeks, his knowledge base of the Earth had reached the First World War.
"The only thing humans ever seem to learn between now and your time, are faster and more vile ways to kill each other. It's amazing you didn't cause your own extinction!"
"Yeah yeah I know." She laughed at his disgust. "But we survived."
Smiling happily at her, he replied. "And I'm glad you did. Otherwise, we never would've met, my love."
"That is indeed true." she smiled. "We had already learned a lot before we met the Vulcans, though they claim it was their influence."
He nodded slightly as he seemed to be recalling something from his past. "I remember leaning about them. Cold, emotionless, except when they're mating, right? They're distant cousins to..." he concentrated as he tried to recall more of his childhood lessons.
"Romulans are the more common known. There are a few others." Josie said as she moved to the console in the front of the shuttle.
"It is good to know that humanity does eventually make true peace with itself." He yawned suddenly as he spoke.
Josie looked at him curiously "Are you okay?" She asked.
Truth be told, Kyle was feeling fatigued. It only meant one thing. "How much do you know of the biology of my people, Josie?"
"Not much." She admitted. "No one really does."
Sighing softly, Kyle replied quietly. "So, it is still a secret." He let out another breath, then stood up and moved over to Josie, gently taking hold of her upper arms. "I need to return to our room, to get something from the chest that I had delivered from my home. I'll be right back." He kissed her forehead softly, then turned and left the shuttle.
Josie watched him and then shrugging, ran her normal nightly scans of the system. It was a habit.
About twenty minutes later, Kyle returned, carrying a medium-sized chest under his left arm. "I need a place to set up a mat for me to lay upon. I think there's just enough room in your bedroom here, but it will be tight. Do you mind?"
"Are you sure? Upstairs there are a number of empty rooms..."
Feeling a bit winded, Kyle put the chest down on the nearby deactivated console. "Josie, what I'm about to go through, few if any off-worlders have ever seen. I need to be hidden for the next three days. The only person on this planet that I trust, is you. This has to happen in here." He took a breath and shrugged. "If you are uncomfortable with that.."
"No, but I want you to be comfortable," She replied softly.
Kyle gave her a loving smile. "For what I am about to do, your cabin here on the shuttle will be adequate." He picked up the chest and moved aft, tilting his head for her to follow him.
"What you are about the learn and see, must not be told to anyone. Do you understand?" He asked as he entered her small cabin.
"I understand," she said calmly. She could keep a secret and he knew that.
He gave her another soft smile. More and more, he was seeing that this woman was the one for him, no matter their backgrounds.
After entering her cabin, Kyle dropped the chest on her bed, clearly even more fatigued than a few minutes prior. As he spoke, he opened the top and started to take out a rolled mat, four small statues, depicting women in various protective poses, along with four short, thick candles and some incense sticks.
"While my people are certainly long-lived, we are not immortal. However, our bodies are capable of excreting a substance, which completely encapsulates our body. Once the, for lack of a better term....cocoon is formed....we are broken down...to the sub...subatomic level." He took a breath as he carefully laid out everything on the floor next the Josie's bed. Once he was done, there was just enough room for her to climb into bed from her doorway.
He started to remove his clothes as he continued. "After we are...broken down.....all injury...is repaired...then, we are...are rebuilt. Now...twice a year....we must go into...rastalla...or sleep. We are....cocooned...for three of your days...." he took another breath. "While...while in the cocoon...we are at our.. most vulnerable. Typically...our family or...or our mate...will stand.. stand guard over us..."
He turned and looked at Josephine. "Now...this...this is important. If you...if you choose to stay...and place your hand...on my cocoon...after it hardens...you will..you will feel...a sensation of connection. Once that happens...we...we will always...find one another." Once completely undressed, he laid down on the mat.
"I...I will need...water...and a blanket...when I emerge...and...I will need to clean....the....the residue...off my...off my body...become toxic....under...understand?"
She nodded. "Do you think the sonic will work well enough for that?"
"It..it..has too..." He seemed to be out of breath. Taking in one last gulpful of air, he closed his eyes and said, "Daltrotta."
Suddenly, four thin wires folded up at the corners of the mat. Once in place, they connected to one another with a faint yellow beam. Kyle's body was lifted up off the mat several inches. Then, from seemingly every pore on his body, a silky material started to spew forth, wrapping his entire body in layer after layer. The process took a few moments, then, once covered, the cocoon expanded some and started to harden. It had a shimmery, golden-brown tinge to its color, and the air in the small cabin quickly started to smell like his own natural musk.
Suddenly, the candles and incense sticks all lit on their own, adding to the appealing aroma already present.
Josie stood there for a moment and then took a breath. This was new to her. She gently reached out and touched the cocoon.
As soon as she touched it, there was a soft vibration inside, and a light jolt of electricity ran up her arm and down her spine. The room was suddenly filled with the soft, strong beating of Kyle's heart. It would stay very strong for the next few hours, until the beating was replaced with a soft swooshing sound, as his body was fully broken down.
Josie took a deep breath and then stepped out of the room. She would need to make sure she came up with a reason as to why he was not around.
Over the next few days, Josie acted as if Kyle was on a mission for the King. She even went so far as to go visit their nearest neighbours and let it fall to them on the second day. The next day she pretended to be under the weather and 'hid' in her chamber before sneaking down to the shuttle.
As soon as Josephine entered the cabin, there was a reaction from the cocoon. Its color shifted noticeably to a dark brown. Then, as it started to evaporate, it lowered back down to the mat. When it was down, the yellow beams deactivated and the wires folded back away.
Josie watched the process in fascination.
A few moments after it began, Kyle was finally fully exposed. A few beats later, his eyes burst open and he bolted up right, taking in a deep breath, before collapsing back down into a coughing fit as his body worked to clear and inflate his lungs.
She was beside him in an instant with a towel which she wrapped around his shoulders. "I have the sonic shower prepped."
As he continued to cough, he tried to speak. "W-w-water!"
She nodded and grabbed a plastic bottle and held it to his lips. "Drink."
He drank the clear, refreshing fluid greedily. Then, once finished, he started to shiver. "N-need to c-c-clean off.. "
Gently she steered him into the bathroom and under the sonic shower which she turned to a high frequency.
For several moments, Kyle stood there shivering, as the residue was slowly cleaned from his body. After the computer detected no more contamination on his skin, it shut down, and he stumbled forward slightly. "Whoa...dizzy..." he mumbled. "Never...never felt that way....before."
"I bet, " She gave a soft smile. "Are you well enough to ride a horse my love?" she asked curiously.
Shaking his head, Kyle stumbled over to her bed and sat down. "Not yet," he breathed in and out deeply. "I've..I've never used sonics to clean up after. I've always bathed. It feels...strange."
She considered it and then said "Be right back" and she left the room and headed to the small transporter area at the back of the main cabin.
Kyle nodded, then reached down and pulled the covers up over his bare body, trying to get warm.
Josie returned a short time later and smiled at him. "Aww come on, I have something that will make you feel better"
Reaching out, Kyle took Josie's outstretched hand and allowed her to pull him out of her cabin.
She drew him to the transporter and helped him stand on the padd. She slid her arm around him and pressed a small gold device in her hand.
The transporter caught them and beamed them away.
They rematerailised in a small clearing next to a waterfall and pond.
Kyle gasped as he felt the transporter cycle take him for the first time in his life.
His next thought was seeing the pond and small waterfall. As the transport cycle finished, he shivered slightly. "That was...I...can't describe it! You do that often?"
"Yes." She replied with a smile. "No one lives here. You can bathe in the pond."
"It's beautiful here," he said softly. Where are we?"
She smiled. "A small island in what will be known as the Caribbean. There are no natives here either."
Kyle took a moment to enjoy the warm of the sun's rays on his pale skin. He then looked at Josie. "Would you help me into the water?"
She nodded and helped him down to the pond and into the crystal clear waters.
As soon as Kyle entered the water, he let out a sigh of relief. Slowly, he started to rub his hands over his body as the sun-warmed pond started to finish washing away the residue that the sonics didn't get. His pores opened and he closed his eyes as he held his breath and submerged.
Josie was glad no one was around as she stripped off the dress she wore in England.
A few beats later, he stood back up and opened his eyes. Looking over at Josephine, there was a renewed energy to them. "Thank you," he said softly. "I guess, your sonics aren't enough for all cleaning."
Shrugging she joined him in the water. "Depends on the situation I guess."
Watching Josephine enter the water, Kyle felt a flutter of energy inside. Moving over to her, he gazed deep into her eyes. "You are so beautiful, my love. I am truly a very fortunate man to have found you."
Josephine smiled. "Why thank you kind sir" she swum expertly out to him and trod water beside him. "We cannot stay long. And when we get back you will need to hide until we can get you on your horse to be able to 'return' home."
Moving over to her, Kyle smiled softly. "You sure we can't just disappear to this place? I could inform the King that I'm heading out on an excursion, you could fly your shuttle here, and we could live happily, without having to worry about anyone from this time to discover our truths?"
She smiled and shook her head. "Not enough power for it. As it is, we only have enough in the transporter for a few more trips."
Though disappointed, Kyle was enough of a gentleman, to not display that now. Instead, he nodded as he responded. "You're right, of course. And the more power you are able to conserve, the longer you can keep James in stasis." He looked around at the tropical beauty that surrounded them, then looked back at Josephine. "Thank you for showing me this place," he said with a smile. "It is nearly as beautiful as you are. I will need to find a way to properly repay you."
She slid her arms around his neck. "No repayment needed Love."
Moving them over to where he could stand, Kyle slid his arms around Josephine and held her to him. He then leaned in and kissed her slowly, deeply, trying to ignite her fire.
It didn't take much and her hands were soon sliding down his body under the water, to tease. She kissed him back with equal passion and slid her foot up the back of his leg.
Their kissing grew more passionate and soon he slid his hands down to her beautifully curved backside, moving her legs around his waist as he slid inside of her, moaning as they became one.
She let her head fall onto his shoulder as they moved together. Here in the privacy of this space she let her feelings show a lot more than they could in England. Her moans joined his as their movements became synced.
For an uncounted measure of blissful time, they moved together, enjoying the feeling of one another, and they slowly moved to a crescendo of ecstasy.
Josie felt her climax coming and she moved a bit faster to bring him to the peak at the same time as her.
The added vigor of Josephine's lovemaking brought Kyle up to the the precipice of his climax, then blasted him past it. He held tightly to her, as he exploded deep inside of her center, until he was completely spent and panting.
Josie sagged against him as her own climax ebbed and she snuggled closer in the cool water. "I missed you" she whispered.
Holding her close to him in his strong arms, Kyle replied softly. "Well, we have the rest of our lives to spend like this, my love. I'm not going anywhere."
She snuggled against him. "Good. Because neither am I." She replied as they floated in the pond. "We should get back soon though. The servants will be wondering where I am."
Kyle nodded slowly, as he continued to hold the love of his life. "I know," he sighed, wishing it wasn't true.
Finally, he adjusted his hold on her body and carried Josie up out of the water, setting her down onto her feet by her clothes. "I image you'd like to get cleaned up and dried, before putting that back on?"
She nodded eyeing it was obvious distaste. "Clothing in my time is less ... constricting. "
"Well, I must say, should we ever find our way back to your time, I will certainly look forward to these...less constricting fashions that you long for." Kyle gave her a suggestive grin as he spoke.
Josie smiled and began to wring out her hair. "I think I will dry off at home." She bent down and picked up her dress and the small gold device. "Are you ready?"
Bending down to collect the blanket that he had arrived in, Kyle stepped back up to Josie and held her close. "Ready, beloved."
She kissed him and hit the button and they were beamed back to the shuttle.
