Andrinn was in his office in the Diplomatic Offices early to catch up on several bits of paperwork that had come in the night prior and for the sheer fact that he couldn't sleep that evening. He had been tossing and turning all evening, thinking about the mission ahead and how this would be Andrinn's first major undertaking as the Chief Diplomatic Officer for a Federation Starship. Andrinn was both excited...and nervous, which usually didn't mix well for him. Thus, since he couldn't sleep that evening, he decided to head to his office to get an early start on some work.
Andrinn walked into the Diplomatic Offices and was greeted by two 2nd Lieutenants that were assigned to the Diplomatic Protection Team. One was a Trill male and the other was a Human female, both of whom looked to be in their mid-20s. While he couldn't immediately remember their names, he remembered their faces.
As Andrinn walked into the main Diplomatic Complex, both of the 2nd Lieutenants saluted him and Andrinn waved his hands. As Andrinn walked over to the two young Lieutenants, he chuckled and said, "While I'm a senior officer, I hate the formality of saluting me every single time that I walk through a door. When the brass are here, sure. When I'm here, you don't have to do it. Understood?"
Both of the young officers relaxed and went back to their stances after they thanked him and allowed Andrinn to pass on through to his office. However, as the doors to his office opened, Andrinn stopped in the open doorway and looked back at both of them. He stepped back out and said, "What are your names, Lieutenants? I'm still getting to know several people onboard, so I'd like to try and get names for the faces."
The young lady was the first to respond to Orin when she replied, "I'm Lieutenant Kathryn Gallo. It's a pleasure to meet you, sir. I've heard so many wonderful stories about you."
The Trill man was the second to answer. "My name is Lieutenant Nareeya Antrani. I actually remember you coming to my school when I was a young man and talking about diplomacy when I was in grade school, sir. It's a pleasure to work for you."
Andrinn couldn't help but chuckle a bit more as he heard both of these Lieutenants talk a little bit about themselves and finally getting the chance to put names to faces. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet both of you and Lieutenant Antrani, thanks for making me feel old," Andrinn said, slapping the young man's arm playfully before telling them to both carry on as he walked into his office and let the door slide close behind him.
Andrinn took a seat and powered up his computer terminal, allowing the flow of information across the screen. However, within a few moments, the ship shuttered and came screeching to a halt, slamming Andrinn to the wall before slamming him onto the floor.
It felt as though the entire ship was grabbed from outer space by the hands of Q himself. But, Andrinn knew that it wasn't that infinitely old trickster up to his old tricks again. It was something else. Something that definitely knocked the ship off course and down a beaten path.
As Andrinn slowly opened his eyes to look and get up from the floor of his office, he could tell something was truly wrong. More than just a simple joke to himself. Slowly getting himself up from the floor, he couldn't see anything except for a few lights from outside his office door. Slowly, the doors to his office opened up and the two Lieutenants came in with wrists lights on and pointed at him.
"Sir, are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?" Lieutenant Gallo asked, helping Andrinn to his feet. As Lieutenants Gallo and Antrani helped Andrinn to his feet and keep him stable for a moment, he shook his head to help clear his vision a bit. While the fall didn't cause anything long term, mix the fall with the lack of light in the office made for Andrinn to have a moment of dizziness.
"I think that I'm alright. Just a little bit lightheaded and dizzy due to my fall from...whatever that just was. Either one of you able to get out of the Diplomatic Complex and onto Deck Two?" Andrinn asked to both of the Lieutenants, wondering if they had a moment to try yet or not. However, the look that both of the Lieutenants gave each other before looking back to Andrinn gave him the best answer he could need.
Letting go of both of their shoulders as he realized that he was bit more woozy than he originally realized, Andrinn took a few steps towards his deck and tried to activate the terminal that sat atop of it. Wanting answers and knowing that the ship had an advanced AI onboard, Andrinn wanted to see if he could figure out what was going on ship wide, or at least around him on Deck Two....and maybe down in Marine Country.
Yet, when he touched the buttons to activate it, Andrinn quickly realized that it wasn't turning on and probably wouldn't turn on. Andrinn walked over to one of the other consoles that was integrated into the wall of his office and tried that one, but nothing appeared on that screen either.
Lieutenant Antrani walked back out of the open doorway that led back to the Main Diplomatic Complex, followed by Lieutenant Gallo and Andrinn himself. It was truly pitch black in the complex, causing Andrinn to think of the scary movies his mother allowed him to watch when he was younger. Andrinn looked around the complex to find even one console that was working, allowing the trio to figure out anything about what happened to the ship.
Just as the trio began moving towards one of the consoles near the open doorway, sparks started to come from the ceiling of the complex. Andrinn was the closest to the stray sparks and put his arms up to protect himself. Lieutenant Gallo saw the sparks coming from the ceiling and ran over to get Andrinn out of the way, causing her to get a few burns along the exposed parts of her back.
Once they were out of the way, Andrinn and Gallo checked their wounds as Antrani went over to grab a medkit. Pulling out some of the ointments out for burns, Antrani checked on both Gallo and Andrinn, applying the ointment to all of their wounds to make sure they didn't get infected. Within a few minutes, both Gallo and Andrinn were bandaged up to the point that they could both work once again.
Andrinn got up from the crouching position and walked over to the console that the trio were originally trying to get to before they were sidetracked by a few things of static and sparks. Looking back at Gallo and Antrani, Andrinn chuckled as it helped keep his mind off the pain of his arm that got burned. "Don't tell me, you put a cake in the console and it has happy retirement on it?" Andrinn said with another small chuckle.
Both the Lieutenants chuckled before Antrani replied, "No, sir. Nothing quite as graceful." Gallo and Andrinn just shook their heads as Andrinn looked back at the console as it started to spring to life, slowly but surely. What came onto the screen worried the trio to their cores...

"Please tell me this is some sort of glitch or computer error. Please tell me it's something?" Antrani said, a bit of panic in the young man's voice. Andrinn worked his hands over the screen, trying to gleam any sort of information from the computer about more information about the ship systems. When nothing else came up, Andrinn walked over to the exit to the Diplomatic Complex and slowly began pulling the doors open.
The ship was in Emergency Isolation Protocols. Nothing in, nothing out, which meant that nobody was getting in or out of this complex until the ship was fixed up and the environmental systems were fixed up to the Chief Engineer's liking.
"Looks like we might be stuck down here until we can get communications back up and running, or we can get out of here. Any ideas on how to get communications back up and running or how to get out of here?" Andrinn told Gallo and Antrani, waiting to see what the trio could come up with to get out of the Diplomatic Complex and get either to the Bridge or Main Engineering to figure out what's happening. After thinking about it for a moment, Gallo looked over at the two men and snapped her fingers.
"Sir, the secondary communication array is located on this deck. If we can somehow get to it, we might be able to fix it up to where we can talk to someone, somewhere on the ship. The hard part would be getting around the ship to get down there," Gallo said, thinking about one part of the problem, but not the second.
However, Antrani snapped his finger and walked over to one of the phaser holsters and pulled out one of the type-2 phasers, walking back to the other two with a smile on his face. "When I was younger, I loved taking phasers of all types and sizes apart, including the type-2 Federation phasers. If we can get it tuned right, we can open one of the Jeffries Tubes and get over to the communications array," Antrani said as he began taking the phaser apart.
"Okay. Gallo, I want you to help Antrani with that and I'm going to look around the rest of the complex to see what other options we have for getting out of here or if we're truly stuck in here due to safety protocols. I'll meet you guys back here in about half an hour. If I don't come back in that time, come and find me, okay?" Andrinn said, as he went over to the area where Antrani grabbed the phaser. Andrinn grabbed one for himself, as well as a light to look around with.
With a nod of a head, Andrinn headed deeper into the complex to see who else he might be able to find and hopefully get out of there sooner rather than later.
