His hand moved as if it danced on the gentle waves of a great river, left and right, up and down, all in tune with the fingers of his other hand. They all moved in a strange sync that filled the air with a soothing song as images of the river near his home town filled his mind. The strings of the instrument in his hands, a Human invention called the violin, bringing the memories to life so vividly.

The boat floats gently on the waves
But who hums a longing song?
No, it's not wind nor the Danube
It's the rower and his ballad.

But was it a memory? Fireworks lighted up the night sky, now that the rain had stopped. He seemed to have been rushing through the rain a bit, maybe stepped on a puddle of two, given how wet his clothes felt here and there. A smile formed on his lips and joy seemed to fill him from his very core, how he missed his home.

A wave bears the chant lazily
To the shore, like a water lily
Toward the girl who waits and sighs
And the hours pass one by one.

The strings of the violin, the sounds he plucks from them, the soothing and nostalgic tones caress his ears as he closes his eyes. The fireworks still light the night sky as he focuses on the sound of the flowing river and keeps singing his song. His voice caressing each word of the song, letting it flow out with the melody of the violin. His heart aches for lost love, the folly of youth with all of its all consuming beauty and desire.

When the first star is shining in the sky
And when the Morning Star will doze
The silent boat sits under willow trees
And the girl will embrace him.

Yes, this is not a memory, he really is here under the star lit sky, set ablaze by fireworks. He only had let his mind wonder for a moment, that is all. For the real memories flood him as he thinks back of the many other nights spent on the shore of the river. With her in his arms, promising the world and the stars themselves to her, just for the chance to stare into her eyes a second longer. Or feel her lips for a taste of pure bliss.

Their story is now a dance
It's a melody of a waltz.
Danube sings and leads it
On her wave of silver.

Nostalgia and the pain of loss cannot hold a candle to the warmth of love and belonging these memories also bring. And his smile grows contended and joyful. To have lived such a love, to have held such perfection, to have been loved at all by her, that has been the happiest time of his life. The violin keeps filling the air with its soothing as the words come out of his mouth in tune. Oh what he would give to be able to go back in time to that very moment, to hold her again just once more in his arms.

We long and we sing the song
The years bring it on their wing
And another girl will call
Another lad under a new star.

Kajan Lidohn drew out the last note on the violin as long as he could, his head leaning back as he opened his eyes to stare up at the fireworks. His smile wide and his heart filled with joy that the song brought to him as he spread out his arms trying to embrace the sky itself. The next set of fireworks lit up the sky like a star exploding.

Myne stopped smiling as she suddenly became aware she was staring at the broken lights on the ceiling of the corridor shooting out furious sparks. Light flickered around the corridor of Deck 14 erratically and alarms blared loudly.

Her arms still spread out she brought them forward and looked at the strange, alien objects in her hands. One was brown, long neck with a hourglass shape on its lower half and a series of strings strung along its length. In her other hand she held a long stick that had some sort of white material also tied up along its length, a few strands loose from it.

Had she been using this strange alien device? Where did she get it from? And why did she feel wet? Looking down she realized she was wearing her normal uniform. Her vision lost focus for a moment as the very wet patches of red blood made themselves known suddenly.

Myne felt as if something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Looking back her eyes were drawn to a open cabin door and the figure slumped on the floor next to it. A Human male, she could not recall his name but as she studied his no longer bleeding head and the erratic lights coming from his cabin it came back to her.

She was out on the corridor in a panic for some reason. There was a scream and she managed to pry the door open only to find him on the floor. The cabin had electricity sparking all over the place and Myne tried to pull the man out into the corridor. She failed to see the piece of metal piercing his stomach.

All she could do was hold him against her chest and cradle him gently. What could have possessed her to start singing? Myne did now know, all she knew, all she could remember was that she was terrified, for him. She could not bear to see the poor man just fade away like that, and she desperately tried to offer him some solace and comfort in his last moments.

Only then did she became aware of the dried tears staining her face. The instrument was his. The man was still holding onto them somehow, and Myne just kept singing and must have picked them up. How did Kajan take over? When did he take over? Was it her or him that consoled the man?

Her head ached and she knew something was still missing. Something felt out of place, a piece of the puzzle. Something happened after that, right? Something must have happened, clearly, why would she loose control like that if something did not happen?

Pain shoot from her side and Myne rested against the wall, her hand moving down to grab the piece of metal sticking out of her. She slowly slumped down to the floor laughing despite the extra pain that caused her. She could taste some blood on her teeth and she kept smiling stupidly.

"Hahaha, now I remember." She mused as she sighed. Yes, there had been a scream, yes the cabin had been a hazard. But she did not pull the man out of it. No, something exploded as she opened the door and the man put himself between her and the blast. He took the brunt of it. She just couldn't see his burnt back from this position. Everything else matched, she just ignored the fact she also had been struck.

"Stupid, so freaking stupid. Redal! Do your freaking job for once and keep us alive you worthless parasyte." Looking to her side to see the closed bulkhead she laughed again and shook her head in pain. "Hahaha, this, this is too much. I need to talk to a freaking doctor."
