Jaeih had been notified that there was a new Chief of Operations and had sent her a brief note that the Ops crew had set up in a suite of offices a few doors down from the CO's office.

She had also passed on to the other Officers that there was a new chief. Most though had chosen to take advantage of the shore leave so the offices were empty except for Jaeih who was catching up on paperwork.

For the second time in a day, Leah found herself poking her head in the doors of a random office and hoping the person she needed to see was there. In her hand she held the PADD listing some of her personnel and their details, thankfully including a mugshot of her assistant chief.

"Lieutenant Ta-Nor-a-mei-McKinley..." Leah read the name slowly, taking care to pronounce each syllable in what she hoped was the correct form. "Did I get that right?" she asked hopefully.

Jaeih looked up. "Kinda, but you can call me Jae-ah or McKinley if you want to." She stood and held out her hand, human style. "You must be the new chief. Welcome to the chaos that is the Elysium. Phoenix.. sorry, that should be Captain Lalor told me that you were coming."

"Thanks for the welcome." Everyone seemed awfully casual, Leah noted. Use of first names was prevalent, which wasn't something she was used to. Perhaps the crew had been through a lot together, which bred familiarity. She tapped the PADD. "It says here you're half-Romulan? In that case, Jolan-Tru," Leah smiled. "I worked with a few Romulan scientists on the Hobus incident, picked up some of the language," she explained.

"Ah. My understanding of the language was learned in Starfleet. I was raised human." She gave a faint smile. "Most Romulans see me as a disgrace as I do not outwardly embrace my romulan style." She paused. "It isn't going to be a problem is it, my being half romulan?" For some, her romulan side was a major issue.

"On the contrary, I agree with the ideology of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations," Leah replied. "Experience tells me a more diverse team will produce better results." She alighted at a desk nearby. "So, Lieutenant, what do I need to know about the Elysium and her Operations department?"

"To sum it up, Chaos is our business." Jaeih replied. "We are a hard working team and the ship often finds itself in chaos so.. we try to limit that."

"That sounds about right," Leah agreed, her mind flashing momentarily back to the more chaotic times of her life. "Organized chaos is certainly a start," she said with a grin. "So long as when the Captain needs her to run we can make her sprint, right?"

"Yeah. The Ship in itself is a great vessel and has an AI, named Avalon. The Capt'n normally only uses her for communication and such and never for actually controlling the ship. She has an issue with that sort of thing." Jaeih said and dug out a PADD. "Current list of senior staff and assistant chiefs assigned." she said as she handed it over.

Leah scanned the list of names, doing her best to memorise as much as she could in the moment. "So many. Gosh, an Elysium class is so much bigger than an Intrepid. A lot more departments. Heavy civilian presence." She blinked up at Jaeih. "I'm a little glad we're stuck in dock, it gives me a chance to get up to speed before we set sail. How about we get some more coffee before we really get stuck into things?"

Jaeih nodded. "Thats a good idea. You may need to make it Irish."

"Now now, Lieutenant. Drinking on the job?" Leah chuckled. "Well, I won't tell if you don't."

Jaeih smiled."oh my lips are sealed."
