Shattered

Posted on Thu Jan 5th, 2023 @ 9:47am by Captain Gary Taylor

Mission: Season 6 : Episode 1: Circinus
Location: Bridge
Timeline: Current
617 words - 1.2 OF Standard Post Measure

Gary sat in the XO's seat and stared out at the shattered bridge. Emergency lighting had kicked in and lit the bridge in a pale, sickly light. Most of the bridge consoles were dead but a few sparked and fritzed and the smell of burnt ozone filled the bridge.

His eyes swept over the bridge, and he saw Leilani helping Danvers with his broken nose all while trying to get Fernando to sit down before he fully broke his fractured leg. There was Samaire under the Ops console trying to get power restored to it. To hopefully get more information than they had which was none. Malakai had left with Miraj and Sandtail in an effort to reach the shuttle bay in a hope to get a fix on their location.

His eyes finally settled on the Commodore. His friend, his close friend, Phoenix sat in the center seat, but she was far from the commanding figure she usually was. She looked small and fragile. Her condition not helping matters as she was blind whether it was temporary or permanent wasn't sure. What was sure was she needed to be in Sickbay along with Fernando. A fact they were working on as he took in the littered ruined bridge.

As he sat listened and processed the limited information they had, he realized that the ship was dying. Its damages were serious perhaps fatal and just like a living being it could only withstand so much before it succumbed and died.

All the while he tried to encourage, rally the others, stay positive. He refused to think on the one thing he was most concerned with and was Lia. He had left her asleep in their bed when he had been called to the bridge before everything went to hell in a basket. He had heard nothing from her in the hours since. Of course, the coms not working didn't help the situation and just added to the anxiety, not just for him but Leilani, Fernando and the others.

He rubbed his hand over his forehead and winced at the pain the action caused. He had a goose egg to be sure. However, it paled in comparison to not knowing about Lia. Was she trapped in their quarters? Injured and unable to get out? Or was she dead? He quickly pushed the thought from his mind. He would not allow himself to go down that dark and windy road with all it twists and curves. If he did, he would no good to anyone. Not Phoenix, not Samaire or Leilani or the others. Definitely not to the others he was in contact who were looking for direction.

He needed to be focused on the task at hand which was getting Phoenix and the others to Sickbay. Find out where they were. Get help to other survivors and get a damage report on the ship. If the Elysium died, they died with it, and he would do everything possible to prevent that. Once Phoenix and the other injured were stabilized, once other survivors were located and given assistance and once, he knew the Elysium's status. Then he could turn his thoughts to Lia. He offered a silent prayer that she was safe. His safety didn't matter. Hers did.

The ship was shattered, broken. He had survived being a prisoner for three years. He had survived Catlin's death with the help of Admiral Zhukov and others. His life had been rebuilt with Lia's love and understanding. As she helped him rejoin the human race again. He had survived all matters of personal tragedy. However, if something had happened to Lia. He would be as shattered and broken as the Elysium.
