"Kajan, this doesn't feel right. I have to tell you, first this is highly unorthodox and second I am not sure I fully grasp what you're trying to do here. We have the lottery in place for a reason. Tampering with it can have catastrophic results and you know it." The man sitting across the conference table said with a rather exasperated tone.

The one he was talking to smile and spread his wide arms. His physique was on the larger side, with a belly and gut to match. "Afrey you worry too much. The system won't be affected at all. This is just a minor tweak to say the least. And please call me Redal now, as is proper."

"Kajan, we've known each other for..." Afrey started talking but he was cut off with a wave of a hand and a braod smile.

"Afrey, exactly. We have known each other for long enough that you should know better. My proper name is Redal now and you better remember that. I do not like repeating myself my dear friend."

Visibly uncomfortable, the other Trill sighed in defeat and nodded. "I understand Redal, my apologizes. Back to the matter at hand, you still can't play with the lottery system, there is too much at stake."

"Nonsense. Think of it as a little bit of accounting, nothing more. One pattern to oversee one trivial symbiont. You know my dear Afrey, you weren't moralizing at all when I named you on the board, nor when I made sure your daughter's chances to be chosen increased."

The other man paled at what was mentioned and took a few deep breaths to gather his courage. "That was only one case." He tried to justify it weakly, but the larger than life smile and laughter that followed from Redal quieted him once more.

"Why do you think I put you there Afrey, or even made sure your lackluster daughter was chosen? It was not from the goodness of my heart or our friendship. It was to serve a higher purpose and now after you have ripped the rewards, it is time to do your part." Redal leaned forward, his increased body mass making him loom, even seated, over the smaller man.

"But this... you want to basically remove the Redal symbiont from the lottery entirely." Afrey tried to argue or at least voice one last concern, despite his tone and demeanor clearly showing he had accepted his defeat.

"Exactly Afrey. The Redal symbiont has a task to perform that will require specific types of hosts to carry it out. All I ask my dear Afrey is that you implement my changes to make sure that the right individuals are always chosen and on hand. Nothing more, nothing less. A contingency of sorts in case I will not be able to choose my own successor beforehand." Redal explain in a rather fatherly and calm manner, now soothing the worries of the man before him.

"Specific types? Redal... no I mean Kajan, you know what happened to the previous Redal host, right? To Iza Redal? Maybe this symbiont is better returned to..." A large fist impacting the table interrupted the man as he trembled and looked fearfully at his former friend.

"I will hear of this no more Afrey. If you really wish to continue on this line then yes, let's do things right. Let us observe the proper morals and procedures. Your daughter shall be recalled to surrender her symbiont for it is clear an error had occured in her selection." Redal looked at the man before him with suddenly cold, uncaring eyes.

"N-no... I am sorry Redal, you are right. I will go and implement your changes. Clearly there are tweaks needed to be done to the system. I will make sure everything is set just right, as you have observed. Thank you for your time." The panicked Afrey jumped to his feet, no more traces or desire to oppose the frightening politician.

As Afrey left the conference room, Redal leaned back and smiled, shaking his head. "Too easy, always too easy..."
