The cadets were all spread out across tents. There was 6 to a tent, due to numbers and it didn't matter about gender or race.
Triston had found himself in a tent with his girlfriend, a close friend in Gerard, and two other cadets.
It was cramped but at least they were alive.
Clary came into the tent and placed her boots by the flap before walking over to her bedroll. "Its dark outside the cave already" she said softly as she sat down and crossed her legs.
Triston nodded "yeah, they say tomorrow we start heading up to start repairs."
Alicianna layed down in the tent, the cold barely effected her. She barely showed any reaction to the cold.
Octavia had finally be released from the medical prison, mainly because she was capable of almost walking unassisted and there was way more pressing issues than her. She entered a ten pushing the flap open with one awkward hand as she balanced her elbow on her crutches. "Hey, I heard this was where they were keeping the cool kids"
"Some of them." Clary said brightly from her bedroll. "There is a chair there if you need to sit."
There was a bed for Octavia as well.
"Cool kids?" Alicianna noted. "Human humor is so odd at times."
Tai frowned, and pointed to her spots, "Urm, I'm trill or has the cold gotten to you?" She remarked before making her way over to the free bed near the chair Clary had pointed out and sat down just as a new comber came in.
The flap opened again and Gérard stepped through, carrying a couple large thermoses and a short stack of thermal cups. "Beware Romulans bearing gifts!" He said with a chuckle. I managed to get us a thermos full of hot cocoa and another one with chicken broth!" He moved over to the small common table and placed his parcels down upon it. "Who wants what?"
"Anything not on the syllabus?" Tai asked, with a smile, she was as she could tell one of the eldest cadets which meant she was used to the post-academic activities and she knew Romulans typically knew how to get the better stuff. Then the smell of the broth hit her, "I gues Im a little hungry." It dawned on the young Tril she couldn't remember the last time she ate.
"I assume bird broth is the only thing you have on the menu?" Alicianna noted. "Very well, it's not heavy meats. Just broth, though it is reprehensible to me." The Alindari noted. "Meats have not been consumed since my people's first imperium."
"Human saying - Beggers cannot be choosers" Triston said as he moved to help his friend with the food.
Alicia nodded and sipped on the broth. "Indeed, Cadet Mongomery. However. To Alindari this is like... What is a good way to describe this... Boiling a cat and drinking its broth. My people just don't do it, but we accept the culinary traditions of others." She noted. "It's a cultural thing when your society elects to respect the balance of nature."
Triston merely handed cups out and rolled his eyes.
Alicia shook her head and sipped, it was surprisingly good, but she didn't want to like it.
Looking overv at Alicia, Gérard replied. "Well, when you put it that way, consuming anything, animals or plants, is a balance of nature. Circle of life applies here. Something grows, then something else eats it. Later, the eater dies and becomes fertilizer for the thing that grows. Unless one only consumes replicated food, then we are all connected, thus preserving the balance of life."
"Grim but apt" Clary stated as they all took sustence and she herself settled back on her bed. "I am going to help out in the common area tent tomorrow so I can do the dinner run."
Triston nodded. "We should take turns. It won't be long, I am sure, before we get back to the ship."
Gérard nodded to his friend. He felt he needed to speak to him about the whole situation with Miran. However, now was not the appropriate place. "Goddesses willing, Trist."
Clary studied the group for a moment. "I guess this will help our academic records... recognition of on the job training. "
Gérard nodded slowly. "More than we'd've recieved normally. Through it all, though, we need to watch each other's backs out here." He grinned slightly before adding, "Back home, they have Red Squad. I say we start our own here. Call it...Omega Squad."
Clary beamed "Triston should ask the Commodore or the Captain if we can."
Triston shrugged and sipped his soup. "Lets follow procedure and ask the Commandant first."
Gérard nodded. "Yeah, that's probably a good idea." He chuckled softly.
